Oldies Marketplace

Love this marketplace. We always make a point of shopping here when we’re in town and it’s open. It’s a combination of antiques and thrift shop items with prices leaning more toward the high-​end over strictly thrift-​shop prices, thus 4 vs. 5 stars for my review.
I like the fact that it is so big with many aisles and compartments to peruse. I go down each and every aisle, my eyes scanning all the nooks and crannies for a good buy. This particular trip I scored a very pretty and useful red coat by Talbot’s that fit perfectly and was in top-​notch condition for $ 20 and a book on the «History of Impressionism», a topic I’m definitely interested in, for a little over $ 20 (a bit on the high end for a used book but I wanted it). Husband picked out a pewter apple just because.
In past trip recently I picked up a random table to be used for a plant stand.
Items in this huge warehouse include books, albums, jewelry, clothes (small but nice selection), furniture, china, toys, household items. I can always find certain items at a lower cost at thrift shops such as albums and vintage Christmas ornaments but they do have a nice selection here.

most of the stuff is mid-​century to late 20^th century, not exactly antique. a lot of the stuff was younger than me (and I’m in my 20s), so a bit of a disappointment in that department. what is genuinely antique is prohibitively expensive. a tiny victorian picture was selling for over $ 100. its much more of a consignment/​thrift store (with exorbitant prices) rather than actual antique shop.

A huge selection, best prices I’ve seen in an antique shop, fun and upbeat, practical items as well as collectables, and organized. Hours are slim, but definitely catch them while they’re open and don’t miss out!!!

This is such a cool ginormous place! So many random goodies; didn’t really look at pricing. I could have spent hours roaming around. everybody there was super nice, although the patrons were kinda rude :(

I’m not one for antique shops, as I find them usually dim and dank and cramped, with a dusty aroma that permeates my clothes for days. Plus my allergies usually kick in big-​time from the dust. So I was not really keen on checking out this place with my family recently. Boy, was I glad I relented, as this place was NOT your typical crowded tchatckie den!
For one thing, this antique shop is housed in a humongous converted old barn which is reminiscent of a warehouse, in that it is SO big and open. This makes for more space to move around in, a more open circulation pattern, less feeling cramped and less likely to be elbowed by fellow shoppers maneuvering about the aisles and shelves.
It was super well-​organized, with like items displayed together. Plus items were all clearly tagged and priced.
One really could spend hours in this place. The merchandise runs the gamut from guitars to jewelry to lighting fixtures to maps and globes. If you’re a collector of, well, anything, I’m sure you’d find something here to add to your collection.
I like how people could bring thier dogs in here (leashed) and how there is ample parking in the lot outside.
One thing to note: it was a super hot day when we visited, and the store was really really hot. Reading the reviews here, it sounds like this place gets frigid cold in the winter, too. Dress accordingly!

I find myself up in Newburyport once a month daytripping for lunch and some shopping.
Finally decided to check out Oldies Marketplace the other day. This place is a dream for any collector of things nostalgic. I prefer the «mid-​century» stuff, and there was no shortage from this category.
The place is huge but extremely well organized. It never seems cluttered, and items are divided by category which is very helpful. For example, all of the license plates are in one area, maps in their own section, etc…
This will definitely be in my rotation when visiting Newburyport in the future. Fun place!

We had such a great time at Oldies. The one downside — they close at 5pm on Saturday.
Fun for the whole family, though there were some tears when not everyone walked out the door with something that they wanted (no, I am not bringing home the giant tiger poster). I scored some awesome, mid-​century, thin porcelain egg cups with orange and blue stripes and a beautiful piece of art glass. We will definitely be back!

There isn’t much else you’ll ask for in an antique store. Beyond its convenient location in downtown Newburyport, they have literally anything you could want. Furniture of all kinds, records, pictures, knick knacks, lamps and all kinds of household items including dishes and flatware. There was lots of nautically themed items here as well, plus old weaponry for the men and jewelry and clothing for the ladies. The prices are incredible for what you see and you can easily find some great deals on some old treasures.

I’ve never actually bought anything here, but oh how I love to look! It’s friggin amazing! There is just so much stuff that old people put here that don’t use ebay. I love to just look look look.

Huge inventory of anything and everything. I was absolutely freezing and a nice man working at the venue gave me a coat to wear while I shopped… Very friendly, helpful and tons to look at. Be smart and dress warm!

We love this place. Allow at least a couple of hours and go back periodically as stuff changes a lot. Good prices. Beware there is no heat in the winter. I found out the hard way but still enjoyed the visit.

Oldies would be perfect… if they had heat.
They have actually really great stuff, yes it is quite $$$ but look at the area.

I stumbled upon Oldie’s by accident but was so glad I did. It’s great for so many things; a place just to kill a couple hours perusing or to do some real antique/​vintage shopping. It’s conveniently sectioned of by theme making it easier to take in the overwhelming amount of stuff. Although I am far from an avid «antiquer», the prices seemed reasonable… you could probably do better at a yard sale but you pay for the convenience of everything under one roof. Oldies is one of the many great places in Newburyport. I love coming here when I am on a mission for a certain vintage find or for times when I simply want to browse for hours… and you can definitely spend HOURS here. I’ve spent hours browsing through their vintage ads, vinyls, and books alone. The prices are more than what you’d find at thrift store, but it’s still reasonably priced (I’ve purchased desk and chair in very good shape for $ 80).
it is so fun looking through everything. They have a section dedicated to just tea cups, vintage hats, bottles, board games, and tons more. LOVE ALL OF IT.
This place alone is worthy of a visit to Newburyport!
Ps: if you visit in the winter, wear lots of layers because it is incredibly cold inside! Also their hours change in the winter so make sure to call before going.

Geez Louise how have I not gotten around to writing a review of Oldies? It’s not like it’s some big secret now is it?
Oldies has been an institution in Newburyport for quite some time now. It is an ever changing smörgåsbord of stuff thrown in a big room, mixed up and seasoned for your viewing pleasure.
This last trip held a plethora of cast iron Neptune (or was that Poseidon?) faces and mermaids galore. Someone must have gotten a deal on cast iron. I found a sweet little cast iron black cat with golden wings. Since I’ve just recently lost my beloved tuxedo cat companion extraordinaire, I thought it a fitting tribute to his grave.
Read the other reviews for listing of items you can find and imagine much much more. Prices are actually quite reasonable for most items. The things I believe are pricey are probably something in which I haven’t a clue of it’s worth.

Fun place to browse through but no room for bargaining as prices are fixed. But there is a ton to look at and it’s always a fun outing for the whole family.
The winter at Oldies can be bitterly cold as the building, a converted barn, sits on the water with no heating whatsover. The concrete flooring can chill you to the bone so come dressed as if you were going on an Antartic expedition.
We always find something neat reminiscent of our youth (def not antiques!) so the 30 mins drive up there is never a waste. Also, the owners are a very sweet older couple who always great everyone at the door with a kind word or two and a warm smile making up for the chilly facility.
There are tons of restaurants and cafes in the quaint center of town so my suggestion would be to make an early trip up there to spend enough time at Oldies then venture out for brunch.

Oldies Marketplace is like stepping into a time warp of various decades. You walk around aimlessly and find odd gems; i.e. vintage typewriters, Time magazines, old family portraits. You seriously get lost eyeing each piece, wondering what it was like back then. I’ve been going to this place for a few years now and can spend way too much time in there.
Our last trip we found some great items, an old dart board that was enclosed in a wooden case with an old sea captain painted on it, a few images from a early 1900’s children’s book, an old restaurant sign in shape of a whale.
Norbit helped us during our vintage-​finding excursion. He’s awesome! I love his sense of humor and eagerness to help us out.

We love this place. We make an effort to come here every summer when we are visiting Newburyport.
Big old boat barn, filled with just about something for everyone. New, old, and not so old, this is a fun place to browse.
Right on the waterfront and bike trail, you can hop off the trail and come right in WITH YOUR DOG! Yes, dog friendly as long as the dog is behaved and good mannered.

What is an antique? The definition is in the eye of the beholder. The employee at Sotheby’s might give you a different answer than the owner of Little Polly’s Emporium in Anywhere, USA.
I like the Oldies Marketplace because it is is big, has something for almost everyone, and is not pretentious in the least. I’ve seen junk, collectibles, and a few decent pieces of late 19^th/​early 20^th century furniture and decorative arts. This is not the place to go if your taste skew towards Louis XIV or English Regency. This place is chock a block full of good old American/​New England stuff. I’ve found some nice glassware, maps (I LOVE maps), and saw a very nice late 19^th C maple chest. Brimfield is better, but when in Newburyport, take a look at Oldies.

GREAT, huge antiques shop. Amazing selection, especially nautical-​themed pieces and lots of glassware sets. Also some furniture, kitchen gadgets, old bottles, magnets, salt and pepper shakers… the list goes on.
Prices are great, and there’s a sale section in the back where lots of various things are 50% off.
Absolutely worth a browse if you’re nearby! (Or even if you’re not)
