Description

Specialties

We provide a one-of-a-kind dining destination at the top of the Newburyport Lighthouse. Located on the Massachusetts North Shore, about an hour north of Boston, in the charming seacoast community of Newburyport, The Lighthouse Preservation Society, a national nonprofit organization, offers to serve romantic dinners at the top of the historic Newburyport Lighthouse tower, as a fundraiser to help restore New England’s fabled beacons. The food is catered in from your choice of some of the city’s best restaurants. The cost for renting the lighthouse and wait staff for the entire day for lunch, or the entire evening for dinner (5 &½ hours) is $ 350 per couple, plus food.

History

Established in 1983.

The Lighthouse Preservation Society is the nonprofit organization that has made lighthouse preservation a national issue with Congressional hearings, conferences, the sponsorship of National Lighthouse Day and its celebrations, the nomination of 25 U.S. lighthouse postage stamps, and the raising of nearly $ 6 million for over 160 lighthouse projects. This prestigious group is the recipient of a Presidential Achievement Award from the federal government for its efforts to preserve our lighthouse heritage.

Meet the Manager

James H.

Manager

James Hyland is the founder and president of The Lighthouse Preservation Society. His photographic documentation of New England’s many endangered lighthouses in the early 1980’s led to a Congressional hearing, which launched national media attention on the subject of lighthouse preservation, and subsequently led to a Coast Guard policy review, federal funding program for lighthouses, and several national conferences on lighthouse preservation, which culuminated in the National Historic Lighthouse Preservation Act of 2000.
