We tried this new place last night. It was delicious! The hush puppies that they give when you sat down were great! Especially with the honey Rosemary dipping sauce. We split a three meat platter of Carolina pork, pulled chicken and brisket. The pork was by far my favorite. The chicken and brisket were great too! We loved the quinoa pickles and the baked beans. We met Sam the owner, who was a nice guy who really wants to please his patrons. The hoe cake was delicious but a bit sweeter than my liking. The only disappointment was the peach cobbler which just was ok. Nothing that stood out with this dessert. Our server Anna was sweet and personable. She was knowledgable about the menu too! I wish that the sauces had a larger sticker on them to explain which was which, though. I had trouble remembering which one I wanted to try and got the habanero and the peach mixed up more than once! I look forward to many more visits to this restaurant!

Great food, amazing services, reasonably priced, and super-long waits for inside seating. They’re new and In a very small space so, the wait was forgivable. We sat outside with heaters and were seated right away. Shared the three meat combo: brisket, pulled pork, and hot links. All three were fantastic. Several bbq sauces to choose from and all were kind of meh. I enjoy thicker, smokier sauces and none of these were. Side dishes are extremely small unless you upgrade them. Cole slaw, beans, and collard greens were excellent. Our server was fairly knowledge and extremely attentive. She did a wonderful job. We will be coming back!

First time to southern smoke and really enjoyed it! The pulled pork is amazing! They uphold the southern flavor. The collard greens, macaroni and cheese so delicious the hush puppies and honey dipping sauce are complimentary. Yum! Yum! Lots of beers on tap to choose from also! Next time going to try fried twinkles and peach cobbler!

Our dad was dying to try this place and it’s his 60th so we took him here. I wasn’t helped right away when I walked in, but the manager came right over when he saw me standing there and got someone to get my name for a table. This place is smaller but it’s incredibly warm and I love the décor. They don’t have all their beers listed yet as they just got their liquor license. Our waitress Tina was so sweet and kind. She offered us samples of beers and ciders and each of us had different tastes as well as brought us hush puppies with an amazing Honey butter. We told her were there for a birthday celebration and she just took amazing care of us. The manager came over to check on us and he happened to be the owner, it’s rare that you have them come by and ask their customers what’s going on. But he came over wish my dad a happy 60th and asked him to choose a dessert on the house. His partner also came over! Not only that but we ordered angus and brisket sliders, tilapia, ribs, and chicken. I gotta say everything was prepared so well. Plus they have different BBQ sauces on the table to try. The best ones were the KC and Maple. We just enjoyed the whole experience and the fact that the service was just superb! They definitely made my fathers 60th birthday with taking such good care of him and us.

Hmmm… where to start… Split the three meat plate with a friend so we could get a good taste for what they had. Ribs, pulled pork, and brisket. The ribs were a dry rub and delicious. Perfectly smoked! The brisket(I’m not a fan of brisket) was good but just not my type of meat. The pulled pork was good but better served on a sandwich, it was odd to eat a pile of pulled pork with no bread. Now for the sauces. None of them struck our fancy. So we left them off and trust me YOUDON’T NEEDSAUCE! The pickles and okra were delish but not served with dipping sauce. Had to ask for it. The kids ate Mac and cheese(ok we tried that too and it was delicious), burgers and tots. The tots were cooked to perfection. The kids burgers were tiny. Like sliders. Waitress did tell my friend that but kind of surprised myself. We topped it off with a peach cobbler(true down south cobbler) and a monster(not so monster sized) cookie. Both scrumptious. Our waitress was nice, although a few items came out wrong, and someone I assumed the manager came over and was very helpful. The service was very slow tonight and we had to ask for more drinks several times, sauces and the dessert took forever to get. We ordered it at the beginning of the meal. We felt the prices were high for the portion we got for the three meal plate. The sides were very tiny. With a few fixable tweaks for a new restaurant, I feel they have great promise.

Real low and slow BBQ! A great addition to Old Newhall. Wait staff Andy was very helpful, and the owner took the time to stop by our table. Tender brisket, Texas hot links, and tri tip, great sides! Get there early, wait was out the door by 5!

We came to the soft opening last Friday. It was so good we have already talked about when we’re returning. Ed had the ribs and I had the brisket. Both were tender and juicy. The sides are great to. Sam had us try the collard greens, they were excellent and I usually don’t like them due to the bitter taste, no bitter taste there! The atmosphere was relaxed and fun. This restaurant will be a great addition to downtown. Update Jan 31, 2016 I returned with a large party, we were celebrating my granddaughters performance at the COC Performing Arts Center. They got us in quickly. I was impressed because the waiter remembered me and brought me my Sweet tea quickly! The service was impeccable. The food amazing, I had read other reviews and so I had specific things I wanted to try like the Hoe Cake, delish!!! My granddaughter stole everyone’s. Tried the Tri Tip and I have to say it’s the best I have had in a long time! Sam has hit it out of the park! My family has proclaimed that this is where all our celebrations must be!!! Big thanks to everyone there!!! It was awesome!!!

Ladies and Gentlemen… we have LEGIT barbecue in Santa Clarita. Believe the hype. Went on a Saturday night with the missus for date night and were quoted a 45 minute wait — which is about exactly how long the wait was. We shared the Hoe Cakes(plural on the menu, but really only one large) as an appetizer, which was awesome! For our meal, we shared the two meat combo(Brisket and pulled pork) and upgraded our sides to large($ 2 upcharge each) — which were baked beans and fried okra. The BBQ was pretty on point. The pork and brisket both tasted heavily of smoke, but not acrid(which can happen when you keep smoke on it too long.) Nothing needed sauce… though I like the KC and the Carolina sauces the best. Okra was tasty and the beans were really, really good, with big hunks of bacon in ‘em. If I had to complain about anything, it would be that they could really use a vegetable side on the menu. The food is amazing — and it’s not like anyone’s going there for health food… but a side of steamed broccoli would make me feel a tad less guilty about that extra 5 bites of fried okra… I like this place a lot — it’s just what Newhall needs. Food is really good. Beer selection is VERY craft, very top notch. I will, for sure, be back.

New restaurant and off to a good start. Only current drawbacks: A) no music or TV sound(at least when I was there) and thus feels a bit like a church service. Too quite and a bit awkward as you can hear everyone’s conversation(easy fix). B) no public WiFi which is a norm for any place trying to obtain a business crowd(easy fix) C) no bread… odd for a BBQ place(easy fi Owner is very attentive and caring. GM(George) is a bit aloof. More interested in looking at his computer than making customer connection(easy fix). Not so sure this is $ 55 worth of food

The food is so good. The owner is so nice. I love the brisket. I have tried the sliders. I tried the cobbler today which was the best I have had. The monster cookie is delicious as well. The sweet tea is super good. I am in love with this place. I can’t wait to come back

Couldn’t wait to try this restaurant. I’m from Texas and missing all the Southern food. I love that they’re building up this area because it has a lot of potential. Great atmosphere! Very comfortable and has a cool vibe. Between our group we had the hushpuppies(a little dry, but still good), whatever the cornbread appetizer was and it was good, the brisket was tender and yummy, the tri-tip was amazing, loved being able to get fried okra! There were so many things we wanted to try so can’t wait to go back. Wish they had bread pudding, but maybe one day they’ll add it. Our server was very nice. She had a lot of trouble keeping things straight and there were only four of us, but she was fine. We met Sam(one of the owners) and he was very friendly. We enjoyed getting to visit with him. We’ll go back for sure(and already starting to plan it).

This is the best BBQ I’ve experienced since I moved to California! The pulled pork is tender and was equal to the best NCBBQ I’ve had since Newton Grove, NC. Not that you need them, but sauces are based on maple, and the eastern NC sauce(vinegar & pepper) is authentic. The menu contains all the entrees you’d expect and more. The Mac and Cheese is home made, nothing from mix, with 7 cheeses. The baked beans have pieces of andouille sausage! I drove 30 miles on the recommendation of friends to eat here. As a BBQ junkie, I give Southern Smoke BBQ& Brewhouse five stars. Service is fantastic, prices very reasonable. You will not be disappointed!

Just opened 4 hours ago and already stellar! Homemade bbq sauces and perfectly smoked meats. The brisket is like butter! Great service and atmosphere is friendly and warm. Tri tip, rare and tender. Try it with the peach habanero sauce. All sauces homemade! Great beer selection on tap. Can’t wait for them to be able to serve them! Please note, this review was posted the day they opened, but attached initially to the wrong resturant… here’s the data:1/10/20161 check-in First to Review

I came with my family for dinner on a Sunday night and left satisfied. I ordered the Santa Maria Tri Tip with mashed potatoes and fries. The mashed potatoes and the tri tip tasted great but the fries could be improved because they didn’t have much flavor. Also, my fries and mashed potatoes weren’t very warm when I received my meal. Other than that, I enjoyed it. I really like the menu because they have multiple options, including seafood and salads, as opposed to just barbeque. They also have breakfast on Saturday and Sunday mornings, which is a nice addition to Old Town Newhall. The employees were polite and our waitress was helpful. I recommend going to Southern Smoke BBQ and Brewhouse even if you don’t like BBQ.

I took my sister here for breakfast. We had the best server Tina Bell. The staff was super attentive and friendly. Food was amazing. We were the first breakfast customers they had. Food was the perfect temperature. Coffee was just right. They also have a variety of different bbq sauces and recommended which one went great with our dishes(by the way they are homemade sauces. The reservations they take are for a party of 10 or more.

Amazing BBQ! My wife and I had the brisket and tri-tip entrees. Both meats were incredible but the brisket really stood out for us. So tender and moist and packed with natural smoked flavor. It is frankly the best brisket I’ve had ever! But dont miss the chance to try the tri tip too. you won’t be disappointed. The restauarnt offers 4 distinctly different HOMEMADE bbq sauces that are all great. There was no need to use bbq sauce for the already fine flavored brisket but I had to still try them all out. My favorite is the peach habanero bbq sauce. A very subtle peach flavor, just enough to add a tad of sweetness with a nice spicy kick. But I suggest you try all 4 sauces because they are all delicious and are unique in flavor. The secret must be because all their sauces are home made. For our side dishes we ordered the fried okra, collard greens, mac n’ cheese, and bbq baked beans. All of these were amazing but if I had to pick the best ones they’d be the collard greens and mac n’ cheese. By dessert decision time we were super stuffed from the generous portions Southern Smoke gives but when we saw peach cobbler on the dessert menu we couldn’t say ‘no’ and what a great decision it was. We ordered it a la mode which IMO is a must when eating a cobbler. Best peach cobbler ever! Was not over sweetened at all. the mild flavor of it ironically is what makes it a great dish. You just need to experience it yourself to know what I mean. We had the great pleasure of speaking to the owner, Sam. He really wanted honest feedback of our dining experience and that speaks volumes on his passion for good quality gourmet food that won’t break your wallet! Just do me a favor and don’t over think it. Eat at Southern Smoke assp so you can die in peace!

BBQ is pretty good. My group had the brisket, hot links, ¼ chicken, and a tri-tip salad. The tri-tip was the best by far… whatever rub they put on it, it’s delicious. Don’t bother with the salad part though, just get a plate of tri-tip. The brisket and hot links were good. I didn’t get a taste of the chicken, but it looked like something I would order in the future. For sides, I tried the fried pickles and wasabi coleslaw. Pickles were great, but the coleslaw was nothing special. I didn’t taste the wasabi in it at all. We ordered a «giant» cookie for dessert. Be warned… this cookie is not giant in any sense. It was delicious, but a dessert big enough for only 1(maybe 2 if you only want a couple bites each). As for the service, our server was very polite and answered all our questions. They just opened up, so some of the kinks throughout the dinner I let slide since it is still their«soft opening.» My only complaints are the sides they give you with your meal are very small. I know it’s a «side,» but I want more then 3 bites of it. I also think they would benefit from some sort of meat combo meal(where you can pick 2 different types of meat as your entrée). Right now, you can only order one type of meat per entrée, unless you get their sliders plate(3 sliders, 3 meats). Overall, I will be back. Prices aren’t too high and the food is pretty good.
