Sold my boat right before the fishing exploded here in in So Cal. Renting from Danny at Harbor Boat Rentals is definitely the next best thing. Danny and his staff are top notch. Helped us with our gear getting on and off the boat. We ended up with over 200 pounds of fish so this was no easy task. We took the boat about 20 miles offshore and caught BIG mahi and a few tuna. Boat ran great and the bait tank kept the bait alive all day.
I’ve rented from HBR twice now and I will definitely rent from them soon. If you want to avoid the cattle boats and want to do your own thing for the day, renting from HBR is the next best thing to buying your own rig.

We used Harbor Boat Rentals to do some kelp paddy jumping. Danny the owner was very helpful and had great suggestions on where to get the fish. We had a great time, got some yellowtail saw a huge mola mola and plenty of dolphins. Danny was upfront and helpful from the start. The boat was a dream. We only used 12 gallons the whole day, the 90hp engine sipped gas. We were cruising at 20kts even with a little wind chop. The panga style boat is really good at keeping you dry in wind chop. Overall I would recommend if you want to get off the charter boats and run your own trip. It was worth every penny just for the freedom alone.

Clean, well equipped boats ready to fish! All brand new, easy to use electronics. I’ve enjoyed the perks of membership and have caught more fish each time I go out.
