Hyatt Regency Newport Beach

I love this hotel!
The grounds are beautiful, the lobby area is spacious and comfortable, and I love the exercise room.
But, it’s expensive: the room, the parking, and the $ 25/​day resort fee. This hotel charges you for every silly thing and that rubs me the wrong way.
We’ve stayed here twice. The kids love it, and we’ll likely come back.

The room has been nice, and the service was decent. The room itself is clean, and the shower is a little spacious. It’s also upscale and not the normal tub with a curtain. I really liked it. But, if you’re looking for a bathtub, make sure you ask so you don’t get this room. lol.
With that being said, this is not a cheap hotel. It has many amentities but is extremely over priced. You also have the option of valet or self parking. Keep in mind that if you self park, you’re not saving that much money. They charge people staying at the hotel $ 27 a night to park in their parking lot. It’s not even like they have limited parking either. It is currently at about 33% capacity. So, to me, that’s a scam. It’s pretty shady that they charge for every little thing too. It has kind of left a bad taste in my mouth. But that’s just me.

To the young lady giving the «ridiculous» 1* review… I saw that Denae V broad the other night. She and her friend were hammered and obnoxious, berating staff left and right. Her slurred speech was about as legible as her terrible spelling. Lol. Just another person looking for a freebie online.
This is a gorgeous venue and a wonderful stay.
No better place to stay in Newport Beach! A+

Ridiculous. We got to our room, everyone went to go to the bar downstairs. My sister forgot her ID in the car, and the bartender just started saying very rude things to her. Calling her names and just being very unprofessional. The front dest told us that they can shuttle us down to the parking since it was a ways to go. I forgot my other bag in the car so my sister and I decided to take them up on their shuttle service. The front dest asked the security guard to take us and he rolled his eyes. Not saying 1 word to us. When we walked outside he asked someone to take us. The other guy was already taking someone else so he said no. The security guard grunted and rolled his eyes. Then we got in the cart and he stared speeding. There is a big hill you go down to get to parking and he was pedal to the floor. Me and my sister were holding on hoping we wouldn’t flip. He asked us where we parked. We were parked close by each other so we got out at the same spot. He moves the cart closer to my sisters car so I start walking over there so we can go back up. He looked at us and sped off. Mind you it’s like midnight and he ditched 2 women to walk beck up to the hotel. When we got back to the room we called the front desk and asked to have a manager come to the room. We waited 5 minutes and they called our room asking what we wanted. So we said we asked for a manager to come to the room not call us. So maybe two minutes after that we get a knock on our door and we open the door and it’s the guy who left us. He has this mad face. He basically said he didn’t care. He blamed us for not telling him that we needed a ride back. Even though he was asked to take us to our car to grab something really quick. They kept asking us what our room number was just to really see if we are guests. Awful experience.

First trip with my 7yr old and 3yr old. I booked through expedia and I was made aware of the $ 25 resort fee per day and parking fees whether we chose valet or self park. Upon checking in I was told that there would be a $ 175 authorization fee, whatever that means in addition to the $ 25 per day fee. That made me frustrated. Then on hyatt website they promote family friendly hotel with children eat free during summer only, so I called to verify before we checked in and was informed it was for breakfast only. Which I was like okay that’s cool. But once we checked one of the girls said no it not free only if purchased a package deal through them. Not complimentary cookie for the kids when we checked in. The area where we stayed looked like a desert by the pool just unappealing. Like a motel 6 in the desert type of feeling. We made the most of it, we liked the room very simply, clean, didn’t like our patio area that faced the puttin golf area. Buffet breakfast was delicious although pricey $ 26. Family pool area the kids enjoyed. Close to balboa pier and shopping center. There is No spa! I purchased a spa voucher off of Unilocal and they have had a spa there in over 20years, seriously smh. I would try another hotel before I booked with them and I would book directly since other websites like
don’t give you all the details about packages and what’s included and not included.

The Hyatt in Newport Beach is my favorite hotel! Grandparents and families will have a great time here. Lots to do: shuffle board, giant Chess set, swimming pools, hot tubs, one pool has a waterslide another pool has a large sand box type area in the shade, ping pong, Dive in movie PMS, (they have kids activities next to waterslide pool, paint faces, beads and artwork), also a par 3 golf course and bicycles. Now I can say– all my grandkids have tried golfing. We would like to thank all the staff at the Hyatt in Newport Beach for making our stay perfect. Tracie thank you for starting my day off great… with coffee, breakfast croissants and a great smile!

Trying to add on a night for our stay, called them and the lady who answered the phone said «sold out» then HUNG UP on me. Called back and got the same girl, I said yes you just hung up on me, and she did she didn’t know? I then asked to book an additional night for our stay, she said sold out immediately and I asked if she may check for anything. She said she doesn’t need to check. WOW. Talk about helpful customer service! Sure hope it’s not like that for our stay.

The staff here is absolutely useless. Every single person that works here is zero help. If it weren’t for the sign out front I would have thought this place was a motel 6 the rooms and exterior are atrocious. Had to stay here for an event or else we would have stayed at the Marriott. Definitely I waste of money… Don’t make the same mistake I did!

This hotel is in an excellent location and was mostly a good experience. The front desk employees are a huge weak link. The self parking is a long walk away and when we checked in, the girl didn’t tell us shed need to program our room key to access the lot, resulting in frustration and wasted time. When we checked out, the girl didn’t remind us to keep our room key so we could get our car out of the lot, again wasting time and causing us frustration. The front desk people didn’t look up when we approached and acted like we were an interruption. Not OK!
The room needs updating and there were bugs in the bathroom. Valet guys very friendly and helpful.

I wish that I had consulted Unilocal before booking this hotel. I agree with other people who have posted that the furnishings were outdated, it didn’t feel like a Hyatt Regency. Maybe back in the day it was glamorous, but it just feels average in the lobby and the room. There are restaurants on site, a fun little gift shop attached to the hotel, which I appreciated. There was a fire pit outside which was pretty nice, as well as an area for your dog to get a drink if they need one:)
I didn’t enjoy the thinness of the walls… They should invest in soundproofing. I heard a party going on down the hall, and there were also a group of (it sounded like) at least 4 women talking extremely loudly starting at 7:30 a.m. I could hear them below us, and they also had their patio door open, so I’m sure many other people could hear them as well.
One of the brightest spots of our stay here was the head of Valet. When we parked down the hill he was kind enough to come down with a golf cart to bring us back up, and he did this generously, without us even asking.
I wouldn’t book here again, although I love Hyatt overall.

I booked the Hyatt for my group’s annual conference a year ago. I received so much help from Gemma and Kate in sales. The conference went off brilliantly and everyone loved the hotel. The food was unbelievably good. I was told by so many members that it was the best food of ANY of our past 39 conferences. With a group of over 80 people there will be small problems but the few were treated promptly and to the satisfaction of the guests involved.
I highly recommend this hotel to any event planner.

Awesome Newport Beach resort right on the back bay. I’ve taken in outside concerts right on the water outside the back of the resort. A blissful location for their summer jazz concert series. Kayaking, windsurfing and other water activities can be lined up right from the concierge and be had with a short walk out the back of the resort.
I spend a lot of time in Newport Beach and this is one cool place for a special stay, drinks, dinner or socializing with fun people.

Spent a couple nights here for a family stay-​cation recently, and it seems surprisingly dated for a Hyatt Regency. In fact, if you removed the signage I would get the Best Western vibe instead! Staff were okay, however not super helpful when it came to basics (ie. getting water cups for dispenser at pool… apparently cups BYOC lol). There are three pools on-​site, and the one with a waterslide is attended by staff and was lots of fun for my niece and nephew. There is a putting green, ping pong, and hot tub (which wasn’t operational when I stayed here) surrounding the kid pool too.
Some other thoughts… the site is decently walkable and greens are well kept. Parking fees (was it $ 25 a day) are pretty atrocious, but ironically they had the gate up and not operational ½ the time I was there anyways. Resort fees were no bueno and super tiny rooms to boot. Really a mixed bag here but you are paying for convenience and location. Stones throw from Fashion Island and beach cities, so you’re getting what you pay for.

I think that this Hyatt is really borderline between a 3 and 4 star hotel.
Here are the pros:
— Great location– about a mile from the beach, balboa island, and fashion island.
— Inside of rooms are modern, spacious, nicely decorated. The bathroom looked brand new. I think we might have been the first people to use the shower.
–Staff (housekeeping and bellmen) were very friendly and helpful.
Cons:
— Parking was expensive, and the lot is pretty far away. Getting around the hotel is confusing, as there aren’t a lot of signs telling you where to park or check in.
— Rooms are all outside, like a motel. Which this property apparently used to be. This can be kind of a fun beachy thing, but it means it’s more noisy.
— Our door didn’t shut all the way, so it was very noisy whenever people were around. Maybe you could get a room away from the pools if this concerns you, but we weren’t that smart.
Overall the room was beautiful and up to date. It had COLD air conditioning which is so nice. Inside the room and inside the lobby, this is definitely a solid 4 star hotel. Outside, including the pool area, this is a 3 star. We had a very restful night’s sleep, regardless of all the loud people.

Walls are paper thin, I heard our every word of my drunk neighbors shouting match at 3am.
I called the front desk, nothing was done.
I hope our neighbors got divorced, they clearly aren’t right for each other.
Lobby is nice though.

Very mixed feelings about this hotel even though it’s one of our standards.
Pros:
— Absolutely fantastic for kids. There are three pools and the kid-​friendly one has an awesome water slide that is manned by an employee so that your kids don’t do anything too crazy. They also have water squirting structures, too.
— French fries and a grilled cheese is just $ 5. Best deal ever, poolside. Makes up for their $ 14 adult beverages.
— Service is usually excellent. Super nice staff all around.
— You can rent bikes for free and this property is situated right on the Back Bay.
— Hyatt Diamond at Shor restaurant is worth $ 68 which is generous. You can get a decent buffet or pick from the menu.
— Love their new filtered water machine! Choose from sparking, still (cold or room temp). Every hotel should have this feature and get rid of bottled water!
Cons:
— The rooms are small. For such a large property, you’d think they’d expand the rooms a bit. They are updated with new furnishings so the décor is cute. The bathrooms are also oddly giant as compared to the sleeping area. If you’re looking for a room with two beds, just know that you’ll get a double, not a queen.
— As a Hyatt Diamond member, I’ve stayed here 4+ times and have never been upgraded. This location is wedding central so I think upgrades are rare.
— Holy fees! There is a resort fee (which is sometimes waived, sometimes not for us) and a $ 25 parking fee. That’s an extra $ 50 a day!

I normally don’t give 1 star. I like to give a business the benefit of the doubt. But, wow what a dump. Obviously they are taking advantage of the location to charge premium prices for a Motel6 level building.
Of course Motel6 #001 is the most expensive, #002 is #2 in price. Now look up their location and you’ll understand. HOWEVER… The sign still says Motel6!
This isn’t a Motel6. You expect more from a Hyatt.
I was there for a company event. Spent lots of time in conference rooms.
The big conference room by the entrance looks like it will fall down soon. A fresh coat of paint doesn’t fix rotted wooden beams. Are they decorative? I hope so.
The smaller conference rooms look and feel like repurposed hotel rooms. The route to those conference rooms is past a lot of guest rooms. I pity anyone having to hear a herd of people stomp past their room on the way to and from meetings.
Would I ever recommend this location to friends or family visiting the area? Not until I see the location on Hotel Impossible!

If you are a company thinking of hosting an event here. It isn’t too bad. The parking is convenient for large masses of people going to one location. But I find out hard to believe a better location isn’t available in the area…

This score is for hotels for business travelers. Over the course of a year and a half my boyfriend and I stayed in four of the hotels in this area for business. We stayed at: Hilton at John Wayne, Irvine Marriott, Hyatt Regency Newport Beach, and Westin Costa Mesa.
We stayed at the Hyatt Regency for about two and a half months.
Pros:
Located blocks from the beach, and blocks from Fashion Island you are close to so many great restaurants and places. They have TONS of family activities, a golf course, bikes to ride on the property and nearby areas, pool games, family programs, concerts, and very popular happy hours. This hotel caters mostly to families – cookies at check in, and lots of kids activities. They also have a huge list of complimentary items that they keep on site in case you forgot something. (To borrow or have — things like razor, sewing kit, steamer) They also have a large mini fridge in the room.
It seems they are trying to also branch out and cater to business travelers. For a while they were offering free breakfast and free use of the resort amenities to Platinum rewards members. They were also waiving the resort fee, and would allow you to partake in Platinum match challenges from other hotels. They also included 2 meals complimentary for breakfast each morning. The breakfast was our favorite among all of the hotels we stayed at and the service was always great during the early morning hours. I am not sure if they are still doing this, or if it is year round, but during the winter this was the case.
Cons:
Check in on Saturdays is chaotic, just like most beach resorts. There was no solid door on the bathrooms, the just accordion style door. The hotel at times also felt a little dated. Finally the hotel is VERY spread out. If you are staying as a group ask to stay near each other. Also the walk from the parking lot to your room could take up to 15 minutes. Parking is not included. Valet can get swamped so we usually self parked. Unloading the car with our bags was a headache when the rooms were so far away. We usually requested rooms near the parking lot and close to the exit by the pool.

Ok, so we came to the resort for the weekend with friends and families. There was 18 of us total, children included, so we booked a block of rooms. The rooms were pricey and I believe it was a 12,000 Hyatt Passport point per night resort. Because of this, I expected a lot. Sadly, all of my expectations were not met. On a positive note though, the reservation process was a breeze. It was made this way mainly in part to Morgan. I dont know what his official title is but he helped us book the rooms. He was professional, courteous and was able to process our requests easily.
Upon arrival, the check in process was a disaster. Granted, we did arrive around 2pm. Check in time is listed as 4pm. But I was disappointed in how chaotic and confusing the process was. Some of our party was allowed to check in early, some weren’t. But it wasn’t based on time of arrival. The lobby was chaotic in itself. We left our bags with the bellman and they proceeded to leave them unattended on the sidewalk while 50+ people surrounded them. That was slightly unsettling. The parking rates are ridiculous, valet & self park, especially considering their one parking lot for self parking is way on the other side of the resort, which was a 10 minute walk, uphill, to our rooms.
The rooms were clean, spacious but the bathrooms felt cramped. The doors would hit the toilets if you tried to open them all the way. The beds were comfortable. We had a patio overlooking the tennis courts which we ate room service breakfast from both days, but the grass area there looked as of it was unattended for some time. There were lots of brown & yellow patches of dead grass. In fact, most of the outdoor areas on the entire grounds appeared dated.
The service was good overall, especially in the Shor Restaurant. The pool service was adequate, but it always felt like we had to find & wait for a server. It was a bonus that any charges on the property were automatically applied towards your Hyatt Passport rewards points upon checkout. The resort was about a 3 minute drive from Balboa Island, which has lots of shops & restaurants to explore, although we never actually made it there.
Overall it was a good experience, except that for the price, there are probably nicer places to visit in the area. I expected more for the price we paid. I’d probably check out the others before I came back here.

This is a beautiful hotel with great service.
Perfect location when meeting or staying at the Newport Dunes. Parking ($ 25 to self park) and resort fees add a bit to the price especially when you are there for work and not able to use the resort.
But the grounds were gorgeous.
–Huge chess board on the lawn.
–Lots of people lounging by the pretty pool, near the bar, or outback overlooking the water.
The rooms have a beachie-​resort feel with coffee and tea in-​room and special sundries that come dermatologist recommended.
The staff were friendly and accommodating. When I checked in, sunglasses on, hiding my make up — less face, the person behind the counter asked me how my day was going. It was an interesting question. Usually people just ask you ‘how are you?’ or ‘welcome’. I had said to her, ‘it’s not been a great day today.’ and she actually asked me if I was OK. I let her know that it’d been a tough day because my boyfriend and I just broke up. I was there for a work meeting and needed to get in my room to get cleaned up before meeting up with work friends. She was very sweet and gave me a complementary coupon for some other services at the hotel. I thought it might be part of their normal welcome package. But when I subtly asked my colleagues if they received anything when they checked in, they said no. It was then that I realize that the hotel staff member was doing something to try to cheer me up. That was very sweet.
Perhaps next time I come to the hotel, I’ll be able to enjoy the grounds more, and it won’t be on such a sad day. It did however, seem like a perfect place to start recuperating and healing.

The hotel gives out 1960s Hollywood vibe with renovated building and rooms. I think the renovation should add more luxurious feel but it fails to do so. A bit too plain it is ok for $ 139 via Hotwire. The resort fee is a bit much considering there is nothing much aside from par 3−9hole golf. The golf club fee is a joke. The clubs are so old and the putting green is not in a good shape.
The lobby doesn’t have any ramp leading to the adjacent building. I saw guests dragging their luggages up and down the stairs. It is ridiculous.
The service is good. They accommodates my schedule by allowing me to start golfing an hour earlier. There is a breakfast counter serving Starbucks at reasonable price in the lobby area. No sea or bay view though. If you love tennis, this is your hotel.
The ground can be confusing because of the layout. It will be great for treasure hunts.

Lackluster.
Stayed here for a quick staycation and picked to stay here looking for a relaxing stress free stay. Mind you their web pictures, specially for the rooms are way off from reality
For how much it’s priced compared to nearby hotels around the location. I don’t mind the $$$ price as long as they deliver. But this Hyatt was so underwhelming and frankly disappointing.

The Good. The rooms, although older and outdated was well kept and clean. It had an air of open space and it was neat. Linens were very clean. The pillows soft. The bathroom was well prepared with toiletries and everything was spot clean.
It’s quite a nice stroll around the area with the garden and giant chess board was also a feat. The lobby had productive/​office areas when you need to do an urgent email during a vacay or simply check tourist spots.
The shuttle takes guests on a scheduled time to the Harbor near Balboa island, complimentary.

The Bad. Check in was a bit of a hassle. See in their website when I booked the room they had special offers and I had signed up for the $ 40 for late check out (7:00pm). But when we were checking in, front desk didn’t know nothing about their online offers and there wasn’t rooms available the next day anyway – according to her. The offer itself is not guaranteed but staff was suppose to let guests know at Check In. When we checked out the GM was there and I told him about it. He acknowledged but continued to offer a late check out for $ 80 instead of the former deal. I don’t understand how there’s magically a room available but now it costs twice as much.
Breakfast Buffet. You don’t get a lot bang for your buck with their «buffet» we went down at around 6:00am so it wasn’t like the end of breakfast already. They just had the normal scrambles eggs, bacon, bread, pastries (that wasn’t as fresh. Drinks are to be served by wait staff, we never got our refills we asked for– yes even for a glass of water. It was just overpriced and underserved. At least have an omelette station to order for the amount of money.

The Ugly. Parking. I don’t mind paying for parking, they also have valet for an insane amount of $$ by the way. But the Parking lot going to the lobby was a challenge! For first impressions of a high end hotel this was borderline unacceptable. First there’s a flight of stairs then a dark dungeon, was very creepy at night not going to lie. Then another flight of stairs before you get to the actual lobby. I couldn’t imagine how they accommodate the specially-​abled in this hotel.
The other pool situated at the other side of the hotel looked ran down and was not inviting at all.
Overall, I would have rather prefer to the Marriott hotel nearby.

The girls in the check in will not allow you to check in early because they say the system will not allow it but we all know that isn’t true. I didn’t mind because we went to snuggle in the lounge and have a drink in the bar.
The lobby and lounge are completely modern and have free wifi. The chairs are cute and completely nice to cuddle.
I have stayed here in 2012 when they first started the updates and I’m pretty impressed by the changes.
The grounds are not your standard hotel setting but that is what makes this place so much better. It’s sexy to wonder and explore the grounds at night.
The pool is huge and so is the hot tub. I recommend that you buy some wine for your room because room service gets expensive quickly. We had to order room service because I wasn’t feeling like leaving the room to go to the bar.
They have condos with private pools that are totally worth the money for the adventures you can have in that setting.
