Il Farro Restaurant, located in the heart of Newport Beach, serves authentic Italian dishes with a focus on taste and quality.

Enjoy a romantic walk on the beach followed by a delicious casual meal at Il Farro. We also feature fabulous seafood dishes (we are steps from the ocean, after all) with halibut, salmon, mussels, calamari, and much more.

Established in 1993.

Il Farro Restaurant sits in the heart of the Newport Beach Peninsula, right by the Newport Pier. Its authentic European vibe has attracted a vast clientele of locals and tourists for over 20 years and has made Il Farro one of the most unique and divine spots of Southern Italian specialties. Its cozy Italian atmosphere and its family-​oriented service give our customers one of the best Italian experiences in Orange County.

Business Owner

Italian born Domenico found his way into the restaurant kitchen at an early age. Working at the coastal hotels and restaurants in Italy, Domenico found a passion for food and entertaining, prompting him to enter culinary school to perfect his craft. Having worked in France and London, Domenico decided it was time for a vacation. He traveled to gorgeous Newport Beach, CA and decided to stay. He opened Il Farro in 1993 and realized a lifelong dream of owning his own restaurant where he could share the dishes of his home region with Californians!

We came here on a Saturday night at 8 PM with a party of 6 and I’m glad we did!
Cons:
1. They won’t seat you unless most of your party is there
2. There is no wine list. It’s all in the server’s head
Pros:
1. They have hand made pasta options
2. Sexy mood lighting
3. They take last minute reservations and were accommodating when I needed to move it back an hour
3. They don’t overcook your steak
4. The servers are SO nice
5. They can basically make you any sort of pasta that you want
6. My appletini was great

The food here was excellent. Service was exceptional and their restaurant immaculate.
Very authentic Italian food.
My daughter and I had a long day at the beach and before we headed home on our journey we needed some dinner.
My daughter was unsure of what she wanted. So I decided one of the nearest restaurants next to us, this one.
Bread baskets are always delightful.
The bread here is fresh and very tasty. I thoroughly enjoyed the bread as did my daughter.
I ordered a cheese Raviolili and my daughter had the pizza.
The food came out in a timely manner and was served steaming hot.
The pizza was half covered in basil. I enjoy basil and my daughter does not so it made for a lovely combination.
My daughter ended up enjoying the Raviolili more than the pizza. She was jubilant and her tummy happy.
Would definitely return. Very tasty food and friendly service.

The place was in what used to be a nice section of Newport Beach. Now it’s gone to seed. This restaurant looked great in the reviews, but it wasn’t really Italian and it wasn’t very good. The bread was OK, as was the salad. The pasta was home made and done fairly well. The sauce, well I’ve had a lot better. It was better than canned sauce. I had the shrimp and scallop combination with linguini. There were three small shrimp and three tiny scallops. They were all nearly 1⁄3 of what you’d expect for the price. Dinner for two was over $ 85.00
It was WAY over priced. The service was decent and friendly. But I won’t be back, ever.

Good Italian. Menu states pasta is handmade, however, did not look handmade and actual dishes ordered did not match menu photos, but was fresh, tasty and service was good. See pictures. Entrée was $ 36, so not inexpensive. We will return and try more items on their menu.

So I am sitting here now eating at the restaurant. My boyfriend took me on a surprise trip to Newport and since we hadn’t been here before we didn’t know where to eat. The hotel suggested here so we came. And omg I am so happy we did. This place is so good. We are the only ones in the restaurant but that’s ok. It’s an off time of day to be eating and time of the week. I had the gluten free pasta that is so good. You can’t tell its gluten free. My boyfriend had pizza and omg best pizza we have ever tried. The bread is so good as well. If you are visiting or close by come here. Sooooo good!!!

First time here. My bff said it’s the best place to get any farro dishes, hence the restaurant name. We were super excited, but come to find out that the port held their farro!!! So we didn’t get the dishes we originally wanted — the chilean seabass. So it was pointless to order from the farro list, so we opt for other dishes. We got the carpaccio and the mussel/​clam dish as an appetizer — it was delicious! We order soup of the day — potato and zuchinni mush? It tasted very healthy, it was good. Just didn’t feel like it fitted with an Italian restaurant or the dishes we ordered. We then ordered our main dishes, hehe. We’re piggies!!! That’s why we’re bffs!
I got the Barramundi Siciliano– Baked with sundried tomato, garlic, black olives, capers, roma tomato & white wine. Side of pasta or veggies. — it was very flavorful and loved how smooth and buttery the fish was and the sun-​dried tomatoes…*muah!*
My friend got the Branzino Grigliato all’erbe Branzino filet, it’s simply grilled with fresh herbs. Side of Pasta or Veggies. Another fine dish, however, nothing compares to Chilean Seabass!
We ended the night with a latte and coffee paired with this farro + ricotta cheese dessert. It was definitely the perfect piece of cake with our drinks. Super light and tasty. Loved it.
And the service was great, all the waiters/​waitresses were very attentive and cheery. Will go there again and try their Chilean Seabass!!!

Our family of six dined here on Friday night and couldn’t be happier with our experience! Our orders ran the gambit between cheese pizza and the crab & lobster ravioli.
The waitress gave our tween daughter a complimentary Non-​alcoholic strawberry margarita & the bar didn’t charge my father-​in-​love when asked for an extra shot of vodka in his screwdriver.
The ambiance is romantically charming and we were easily able to hear each other in conversation. However — the 5th star was awarded because their customer service is the cream of the crop! Everyone on staff that we encountered was genuinely warm and friendly!
All of us look forward to visiting again!

First impression was for good service, nice people there. they smile at you all the time.
The waitress came to our table more than 5 times to help and serve.
We only ordered Tea, Cappuccino, Apple pie, yet service was as good as ordering a whole dinner. We will go back for sure, I wanted to try the Spaghetti, Ravioli, Lasagna, and soup.
By the way the place was super clean too!

GROUPON REVIEW: Our waiter was curt, impatient, and very obviously treated us differently from his other two tables next to us. If it wasn’t for his moderately pleasant demeanor to the tables next to us, I would have thought he just hated his job. Nothing personal ya know? No, it was most definitely us. I tried to smother him in positive attitudes and smiles. No luck.
We were in and out of there in 40 minutes; the tension was palpable. Bread was good. My pasta dish (upon recommendation from waiter) was aiight. Also, it’s quite loud, and you become intimately acquainted with your neighbor’s conversations.

It took a few minutes to be acknowledged when we walked in, but once we finally were, the service was great for the rest of the evening. For food, we tried the soup of the day (broccoli potato), caesar pistachio salad, ham/​artichoke/​bell pepper/​onion pizza and some sort of gorgonzola pasta. All were good, but nothing worth writing home about (but I guess somehow worth writing on Unilocal about).
Buyers of the Groupon deal beware — the deal doesn’t cover alcohol purchases, so I was in for an unpleasant surprise when the bill came. Lastly, it was beyond loud on the Friday evening we dined. This could be considered a good thing, but I couldn’t even hear my girlfriend from across the table.

Italian landmark in SoCal
No doubts, «Il Farro» is a landmark for all Italian’s food lovers in Orange County. Not only for the excellent food and service, but also for the overall experience. Since you step in Il Farro, you feel to be like in Italy, intimate and romantic environment. The very cordial waiters and the master chef Domenico welcome you in their typical Italian way, they can be very talkative and funny!
Linguine del pescatore and Branzino are excellent, definitely my favorite. Extensive selection of wines and desserts.
Location is superb, in front of Newport Pier by the beach. Great also for business lunch with your clients. I recommend to book a table in the front patio for the interesting view.

Came here for dinner on Friday night and got seated right away. Checked in on Unilocal and got a free appetizer. Ordered cozze vongole for appetizer and tagliatelle Boscaiola & truffle pasta for our entrée. Mussels were tender but clams were a little fishy. Tagliatelle Boscaiola has good ragu sauce and fresh pasta was delish. The daily special I got was not worth $ 28. I didn’t taste any truffle flavors and the scallops were small. Service was not that good since it was hard to wave down our server.

What a little gem of an Italian spot this was. Their pink vodka sauce was delicious, I couldn’t get enough. Everything here is traditionally prepared. Service was beyond expectation, Richard was excellent and went out of his way to make sure we had an enjoyable experience. They stay open late which was a plus for us late night dinner folks. My favorite though was dessert, homemade petifoils.

Checking out a Beautiful SUNSET in Newport we popped into IL Farro for dinner. Our server Antonio, was wonderful and very knowledgeable about the menu. Antonio, also made the best cosmopolitan EVER! Regarding, our meals we started with a yummy Misto Antipasto. I went with a recommedation by Antonio and had the Farrot
Milanes, which was oustanding. My husband, thoroughly enjoyed his delicious Linguine Pescadore! The sauces were so great on both dishes. Given the deliciousness and good size portions the pricing is very fair and reasonable. You must put this on your «go to»
list!

My friends and I all ordered late night pizza and were violently sick within a few hours. I had planned on driving back to Arizona yesterday but couldn’t get out of bed and had to extend my stay. When one of my friends started to feel better she called the Resturant to tell them we were sick. We were so lucky to encounter the rudest manager ever, who insisted on reminding us that he didn’t work that night so it simply wasn’t his fault. He said «I’m not sure what you want me to do about it». I was baffled. Not only are they unsanitary they are so rude. What about offering our money back? What about saying I’m so sorry? Unbelievable. They couldn’t have been more unconcerned. They didn’t ask what we ordered or what time. I could go on and on. What a horrible experience, I hope everyone thinks twice before coming here!!!

The BEST Italian dining in Newport Beach.
I have dined at Il Farro countless times, and I am never ceased to be amazed by the astounding service, remarkable location, wonderful experience, and DELICIOUS FOOD.
The employees at Il Farro always go ABOVE AND BEYOND in assisting me with impeccable service. They are genuine, kind, and considerate in all aspects of restaurant service.
The food at Café Il Farro is PHENOMENAL. I highly recommend ordering the Eliche Tropeani pasta dish. It is a hallmark at this establishment, and one of my all-​time favorite dishes.

After my mom coming in to visit me through John Wayne Airport, we decided to have a nice dinner in Newport where she was seduced by a really well designed building that reminded her of Italy.
Unfortunately we judge the book by its cover. But it wasn’t the old bread, the pictured menu, the horrible ambience or not even the canned olives served in our dry-​old bruschetta that made the restaurant so terrible
We were humiliated by our waiter, very big and loud, late 40’s, disgusting man, that from the start spitted, yelled and made sure to let us know he was in charge. After making a mistake he went even farther threatening and physically challenging us in the middle of the dinner! YES, that is the kind of restaurant these people are praising!!! Worst part is I was told after by other staff members that THE OWNER was right behind us!!!
The only reason I didn’t call the cops was my mom. I feel humiliated and literally got sick after the episode!!!

Wir besuchten das Il Farro dreimal während unseres zweiwöchigen Aufenthalts in Los Angeles, was eigentlich schon einiges aussagt.
Das Restaurant liegt super gelegen am wunderschönen Newport Beach. Das Restaurant wirkt vielleicht nicht wunderschön, hat aber irgendwie Ambiente. Das Personal ist freundlich und die Pizzen sehr gut. Wir assen einmal auch Pasta, waren davon aber nur mässig begeistert. Wer aber eine gute Pizza will, ist bei Il Farro absolut richtig.
Die Toiletten dürften aber gerne mal renoviert werden — und öfters geputzt.

Adorable little Italian spot right by the pier. Stopped in for lunch before hitting the beach and grabbed a seat outside under the shade of an umbrella.
Server was extremely warm and attentive with drink refills. I had a salad composed of cucumbers, tomatoes, fennel, and onion followed by the chicken vesuvio (white wine sauce with artichokes and tomatoes) with a side of sautéed vegetables (broccoli, kale, carrots, and zucchini). My man got a caprese salad and chicken margherita pizza. Portions were ample but not massive. Everything was exceptionally fresh, beautifully seasoned with traditional Italian flavors, and well executed.
At just under $ 70 including tip, this was not an inexpensive lunch. However, there is no separate lunch menu. For dinner, this would be a delicious, reasonably priced meal in a great location. Look forward to returning and sampling the rest of their fare.

Wow what can I say about this place and where should I start?
If you’re looking for Domino’s style Italian food this is the place for you.
The food here was excellent very authentic and fresh. For an appetizer we ordered the bruschetta and it was amazing. And I ordered a type lasagna that was excellent very flavorful and serve hot.
Wife ordered the fresh halibut dish with pasta and meat sauce and she said it was some of the best she has ever tasted.
We sat on their little patio it was great for people watching. The waiter was amazing. He was very attentive never let our drinks go empty and was very informative about the menu.
If you are looking for a great Italian food place in Newport Beach this is the place for you. We will definitely be back again.

Cute little Italian place located near the Newport Beach pier. Service here was great! It’s not super dimly lit, but it’s a cute enough place to take a date. You get a real authentic Italian feel here. Just looking at the paintings on the wall makes you feel like you’re in Italy.
The Waiters recommended a really good wine too. They opened a new bottle for us to try, and they also said if we don’t like it they will drink it themselves. But of course the bottle they recommended was really good so we decided to stick with the whole bottle. They were nice enough to let us keep the bottle when we finished too. What a good momento piece for a date.
The food was really good as well. It wasn’t too creamy like a lot of other Italian places. So you could keep eating without getting sick of it.
Highly recommend. You can walk to the pier right after too.

Located near the Newport Pier, Il Farro is sandwiched between two larger establishments. Unless you are looking for it, it’s easy to miss. But you’ll be sorry if you missed the opportunity to dine here.
The service is first rate. Everyone greets you in Italian when you walk in. The waiter is both knowledgeable and attentive.
I tried the sea bass the first night because someone highly recommended the fish here. It’s just okay. It’s cooked well, and the bass tasted fresh. However, I am not sure the sauce goes well with the fish. The pasta tastes divine though. My wife had the farotto with prawn, which was also unforgettable.
On the second night, we tried the pumpkin gnocchi and the Rotelle Aurora as take outs because it’s Fourth of July and the restaurant was super busy. Both are first rate. My son couldn’t stop raving about the gnocchi.

Vacationing in Newport. This place is a gem.

Great appetizers including the buffalo mozzarella & arugula salad.

We also custom ordered a pasta not on the menu and they nailed it perfectly.
I have two complaints. The first is that the service was slightly lacking but they were busy.
The second being that I ordered a cappuccino and it was a latte. I know, the struggle is real. The milk was incredibly burnt and I couldn’t drink it. Still. Cosmetic compared to how great this place was.

Setting was fantastic. We sat outside in the warm afternoon sun looking down a quaint walkway to the ocean. Service was Phenomenal. Our server Jose was the BEST. He was friendly, caring and attentive. The food was really really Great too.
Parking was ok since its off season but Ive been to Newport Beach in the summer and its crazy to find parking. Bring change for the meters. .25 per each 10 minutes.

Wenn man nach all den Burgern & Pommes irgendwann mal etwas anderes sucht, findet man hier in netter Umgebung einen Italiener mit dem typischen Angebot.
Pizza mit viel Käse oder Lasagne mit viel Bologneser Soße und vieles mehr.
Preise sind für amerikanische Verhältnisse günstig, die Qualität gut, aber nicht überragend.
Auf jeden Fall eine Alternative zum Seafood auf Balboa Island.
