History

Established in 1920.

For four generations Jewels by Joseph has been dressing women in the finest jewelry available. «We offer our own designs and we carry designs from local, national and international designers.» says Jim Hartstein who now runs the company with his sister Barbara and his daughter Claire. «We have a lot of jewels you are not going to see in most stores.» The company was founded by Hartstein’s grandfather, who was a jeweler in Pennsylvania. Then in the 1950s his father set up shops in Downey and Bellflower before moving to Orange County in the 1960s. Today in Newport Beach, Jewels by Joseph still offers an array of beautiful jewels and a knowledgeable and friendly staff.

The moment we walked into this jewelry store, we knew we had found our jewelers! They were friendly, personable, and not pretentious at all. We found the style of engagement ring we liked, but we wanted it tweaked. Not only did they come up with a fabulous design, but they cleaned all the jewelry we happened to be wearing at the time. We had 2 diamonds we wanted included in our ring set that were my fiances parents. We felt completely comfortable trusting them with our diamonds. Our rings were done within 3 weeks. They look beautiful. I wouldn’t go any where else!

I was Christmas shopping today and I couldn’t be happier with the one on one service that was provided at Jewels By Joseph. They have such beautiful pieces, I saw something special for my mom as well as all my girlfriend’s. I couldn’t be more happy with the result of my ring that I took in for repairs. The staff is beyond sweet and helpful. And the service was very fast as well as exceeded my expectations. I will definitely be returning to this store for future needs!
I had a missing diamond which needed to be replaced and so I just stopped wearing my wedding band for over a year. I finally took my ring in here to have it fixed as an anniversary gift to myself. I can’t believe I went so long with out wearing my ring, with how simple fast and inexpensive it was to have it fixed.
Not only did they replace the diamond, but cleaned and polished it fixed all prongs so I don’t lose anymore– my ring truly looks brand new! I keep looking at my hand as much as the day The ring went on my finger. Thank you for fixing me up I’ll be back!

When it came time to purchase an engagement ring, I went to JbJ.
The Hartsteins treated me like family, and I can’t say enough about their ability to provide the highest level of service for such an important event. They made me feel comfortable in what otherwise could have been a very nerve-​racking experience.
My fiancée and I are going back to JbJ to purchase wedding bands because I wouldn’t want anybody else guiding me through this process!

Found this store from the Pandora website while searching for a specific charm for my mother in law. Called in advance and they had it and held it for me. Lots of cute pieces in this shop, and the customer service is top notch. Glad I found a great family-​owned jeweler! I plan on taking some stuff there to be redesigned soon.

I had my engagement ring repaired here last August, and I couldn’t be happier with the results. I was VERY hesitant to leave my ring anywhere, especially a place I’d never been to. However, my in-​laws know the store owner personally, so I decided to let my guard down and bring my ring here.
My ring needed extensive repairs — one of the four prongs holding the stone in was completely broken, making the stone dangerously close to falling out anytime I wore it.
Additionally, I needed to have it downsized from a size 8 or so to a 5.75. It was a family heirloom that was passed on to me, so it seriously pained me to leave it anywhere.
I would have given Jewels By Joseph a 5, except that they do not do repairs in store. They send them out to another spot who does all their repair work. This made me even more hesitant to have the work done. However it needed to be done, so I left it and kept my fingers crossed.
The ring came back about 8 days later, and it looked great. They fixed the platinum band and reinforced it so that it fit me more comfortably.
The prongs holding the stone were fixed perfectly as well.
It has been over a year, and the repair work has held strong that entire time. I would absolutely recommend them to anyone, and I would trust them implicitly with my ring again should it ever need more work.

Jewels by Joseph is a gem… no pun intended! This is a wonderful family owned business, and you will always be shown great customer service, don’t let one negative review fool you. My family and I don’t trust anyone else with our jewelry. We don’t live in California anymore, but it is worth it to get everything shipped to and from the store from Colorado. They do an immaculate job and repairs always last.

I live in a different city yet trust Jewels by Joseph implicitly and use them exclusively for important pieces and for repairs on family pieces. Friendly, accountable, intimate size shop with lovely things. Did not hesitate to purchase engagement and wedding rings from Jewels by Joseph, even though Chicago, New York, L.A. and Las Vegas were all worth a browse. Such integrity. Wish more retailers were like this family run business, good old American pride of ownership.

With regard to the store itself, I have no complaints. I also had no problems with an appraisal I had done here.
However, if you need your jewelry repaired or sized I would not go here! The process takes very long because they send it out to a different jeweler, the quality of the work is bad, and the price is excessive.
For a small business which should have a high level of customer service, they are severely lacking.
I would go elsewhere because you can have a better result for less money. I learned my lesson and I am much happier with my new jeweler.

Low key jewelry store in Corona del Mar plaza next to NB central library on Avocado and Coast Hwy. Unique and interesting pieces and very reasonable prices. Staff are very knowledgable, honest, and attractive to boot. Good place for Holiday shopping or anytime.
