Got a surf lesson with Mick. He’s an excellent instructor and a good bloke. Went the extra mile to work with my schedule and even let me keep using the board and suit for the rest of the day. Highly recommended.

Got a groupon for a SUP rental for two people, and had to add on another at the last minute. These guys were really accommodating and I was able to get a 3^rd board at the same time as our other reservation. They even helped carry the board down to the bay because my daughter wasn’t able to carry it on her own. Also gave us a quick intro on what to do since it was our first time, which was really appreciated. The only issue I had was with the location. It was difficult to see the sign for it, and I passed it and had to turn around (which is difficult on PCH) and the parking lot is a little tight. Otherwise everything was great.

I went for a lesson recently. A small group lesson costs only $ 80/​person for about two hours. The fee covers many things: the lesson, board and wetsuit rental, a bottle of water, pictures and videos of the lesson emailed to me within 36 hours. I had prior lessons at two other surf schools years ago and this one is by far the best. For starter, the school gives each student a surf board based on the individual body size instead of giving everyone the same size of board regardless of whether you’re 6 ft tall or under 5 ft. I can’t say the same thing about two other schools I attended. The instructor was attentive and paid equal attention to all three students. This surf school also gives the best pop-​up training in my experience. During my first ride, I fell but the instructor told me what was wrong with the positioning of my feet that caused me to fall so I learned to self-​adjust when I rode the next wave. All three students progressed nicely within 30 minutes on water from falling, to standing up, to riding for a while. Signage of the shop is a bit poor so the shop can be hard to find if you’re driving and trying to spot their shop sign. Here’s what I suggest: they are adjacent to a motel called **Newport Channel Inn** so look for that big motel sign and then pull into the lot next door where you’ll see a bike shop, a tattoo shop, a smoke shop. The surf school is right next to the tattoo shop.

I made reservations for a group of 7 and it was super easy to check in. It’s not the easiest place to find and you’ll really have to look for the sign. They have a very small parking lot so I would suggest carpooling. I luckily found a spot on in the neighborhood.
To rent the paddleboards was a deal you can’t beat! Mick gave us 4 hours for $ 26! However, we had to carry our boards a couple blocks to the water. It definitely took more than a couple breaks to get there! When we got to the water, there are sides that are pretty muddy so you kind of just have to throw your board in the water and quickly hop on.
The water wasn’t the cleanest and I wouldn’t really want to swim in it on purpose, but if you fall in, hey, what can you do? We went around the lagoon (I guess you can call it that) which was only about a mile long and came back. The water was pretty calm so balancing on the board wasn’t that hard.
Protip: Stay away from the sides… it does get really muddy and your board will get stuck. I had to get off and literally push my board out and hop back on.

This place is awesome! We rented surfboards one day and body boards the next. Very friendly and accommodating. Short walk to beach. We came back and my son got a lesson… Really helpful. I would highly recommend them! Mick is friendly and knowledgable

Came in on the Friday before 4^th of July weekend, it was last minute planning trying to rent a paddleboard for a few hours. Bought a groupon deal for $ 20, which gives me 4 hours of rental time (awesome!). So I called in around 9AM, crossing my fingers that they still had availability. The gentleman who answered the phone first said they were completely sold out for the day but then said he should still have 1 left if I come in right away. 10 minutes pass and here I am at this tiny little shop (right next to Cappy’s Café). Parking is nonsense here! But luckily, my friend with a big a$$ truck was able to drive right up and park in front.
The gentleman I spoke with was really nice. When I got there, there were people ahead of me, and behind me, so it was a really busy morning. But he was very friendly and honored my groupon (whereas some other places did not because it was the holiday weekend). He gave me an awesome paddleboard to use and had a fantastic time paddleboarding with my friends.
Their sign says daily paddleboard rentals are $ 30 which is pretty good. They also rent surf boards and wet suits too. I would definitely come back to rent again!
