WINNETKA, CA
We ordered a flank steak salad and we ordered it medium. Came out well done to the point it was hard to chew.
And also it took 30 minutes for it to come out and there were 3 tables filled including us.
Will not be recommending or coming back.
And while we are eating, there is a house across the street with a huge sign saying «no more village in expansion.» So don’t know if the community likes this place right now.
And I and writing this while we WAIT for the check

We stopped in here while exploring Balboa Island. Really great drinks and appetizers. Chili was delicious and calamari was fresh! Great ambiance with a cute fireplace… We’ll definitely be coming back!

I’ve been going here all my life and it’s great. Ever since they renovated the inside and got a new menu I definitely crave this place. The village burger is seriously awesome and I’m a huge burger fan! They have bottomless mimosas on the weekend which just makes it even more worth it! It can get noisy especially if they have a band but the dinning room is quieter.
I’ve had problems with service in the past and screw ups with food but they’ve made it right. The weekend food is a little different than during the week, so consistency on some stuff is a little off. There was one instance with a hostess who was very rude that I actually got up and left before ordering anything, it rubbed me the wrong way especially for someone that goes there almost once a week and grew up on BI.
Overall the place is great and the food is awesome! I definitely go here often with groups of friends and will continue far in to the future.

I landed here the first day of Restaurant Week which allowed me to try a few signature dishes. The place was cute and centrally located and the service was personable.
Tuscan Tomato Soup — incredibly good, I would order that again
Warm Oriental Salad — very good, though very sweet dressing (the sugar seemed to negate any health benefits of the salad)
Cinnamon Pull Apart Bread — a real treat!

I considered flying to Boston to get chowder faster but the drive to LAX would take too long

Walked in on NYE to a great atmosphere with live music and drinks flowing. My first time here and I was diggin it. I’m starting to feel the jams so I naturally move my body to the rhythm. Started with my legs gettin wobbly and then got the hips into it. Next thing I knew I was grooving. It was great… Until the band announced «remember no dancing at all» I thought they were joking until I got confronted by a waitress and she made me sit down. I was appalled. No dancing? With a live and in New Years? With a designated dance floor? I’m still in shock. I just want to do what is natural to humans when good music is played. Don’t let this place suppress one of the most enjoyable things.

Went here not knowing what I was walking into and I was pleasantly surprised. This place and so nice and fun. The staff was busy but still was able to stop by and make sure if we needed anything. This place did not disappoint, I will definitely go back when I am in the area.

Minor issue regarding the endless mimosas that are advertised. They limit them. Manager came over to our table recognizing our displeasure. He was very gracious and personally poured another. Will be back with that kind of customer service. Great guy. Food was terrific

We decided to drive to Newport and spend Halloween on Balboa Island. I’d checked a few restaurants on
and this seemed interesting and when calling was told that 5p was a good time to have dinner before it got dark.
4 of us went and we all really enjoyed our dinner: roast beef sandwiches, fish and chips, portobello burger on a lettuce wrap instead of a bun and a salad. Two of us said they would definitely come back here the next time they schlepped down to Newport.
All the servers were dressed in costume, adding an element of fun to the evening. Our main server was Hannah, who was attentive, patient and fun; hopefully the tip we left attested to that.
With 3 TVs on one side of the bar and a room where they play music after 8, this place appears to have something for all: 4 tables in the dining area where we were sitting had young kids or kids in strollers in addition to adults cheering for their favorite team while sitting at the bar.

I’m giving one star because we experienced bad service. My husband ordered a halibut and he was still working on it when one of the guys just lifted his plate away without asking him if he is done or not. We are done coming to this place.

Hannah was the most pleasant server — she was knowledgable about every dish and helped even the most indecisive visitors. Her attentiveness during the bottomless Mimomas was much appreciated, considering I live in NYC where most bottomless deals are a scam, and let me tell you the champagne/​OJ ratio was ON POINT.
Huevos rancheros were fab and the bacon Bloody Mary was delectable. Will be coming here again next time I’m in OC.

I used to consider this place a little divey but they recently remodeled the place and it’s awesome. The floor plan is spacious and open. There are a ton of TV’s so it’s perfect for watching any games and they also have a live band play on the weekdays.
In regards to food, I would say that it’s pretty good. Just don’t expect a 54 day old aged wagyu ribeye steak topped with micro greens and foi gras herb butter. I just made that up. Sounds fancy right.
But on a serious note, I like their brunch a lot. I like it even more because they offer a bottomless mimosa option. Stick with their any of their Egg benedicts or my favorite the egg biscuit.

This place is amazing!!! Not only is the food spot on but the staff brings it all together and makes you feel like your part of the family! Make sure you start off with the jalapeño poppers! You will never eat them anywhere else! They have live music every night that brings the island alive. So far I haven’t had anything bad off the menu. If you can’t decide just ask Hayley and she will steer you in the right direction!

I give the «VI» a solid 4 stars. The service is great and the menu is quite varied, even offering a prix fixe menu. Their breakfast menu has lots of choices, although I have not been here for breakfast. I do plan to go to try the Eggs Benedict — the sign of a truly good restaurant is the quality of their Hollandaise sauce — but I’ll bet it’s good just based on that I have had for lunch.
Balboa Island has a number of restaurants along Marine Ave, but you won’t be disappointed coming over to the VI!

Great locals hangout on Balboa Island. Great drinks and great food. Best place to watch the people go by and today to watch the annual Balboa Island parade.
