I’m surprised how many good reviews this place gets. I went with some friends because reviews were so great, we got sat at a table. didn’t have a waiter or service(this was a Saturday day time) for a while, had to ask the server for a menu and specials, they didn’t know the specials but there was a paper on the table stating drink specials. After the longest time we got our food order in and received and it was very subpar. bummed. Never plan of heading back

Delicious food! This is real Mexican food, not bland like Plaza Azteca. The service was just okay because the server did not speak English that well. But she was really trying hard and we had fun with our mediocre Spanish and her mediocre English. The food alone was fresh and awesome. The guacamole was a little spicy for my date but great. Other reviews state bad service, but just understand the language difference and enjoy.

I would not recommend this restaurant. The service was lackluster, it’s somewhat pricey, and the food really isn’t great. The rice and meat is flavorless. My burrito was mostly chewy tortilla with little filling. I definitely won’t be going again.

We were looking for a new mexican place, we tried a few and based on the reviews wanted to give this place a try… we went for lunch and we were the only ones, the service was slow, the food was good although the waitress didn’t speak any english and gave us a double order of everything so a 25 dollar lunch ended up being almost 60 dollars and if it was phenomenal I could understand paying that much although it was not to that level. it was an expensive lesson and will probably not make a return to this restaurant…

Wow what a great experience, the best Mexican restaurant I’ve been, the food is delicious, I ordered the«Steak enchiladas with green sauce» really spicy but I loved, the tamarind water is really refreshing and about the service, let me tell you that boy is impeccable and friendly, a good lunch my parents were happy and that’s what matters. I am 100% sure we will return, and recommend.

Food was ok but the service was bad. The poor girl working had not clue what she was doing and we were the only people in there. she opted not to write down our order and and took forever to get cooked. I ordered a margarita, and a completely different drink came out… Without tequila. The happy hour beer special was good. I would recommend chipotle over this place.

Coming from Southern Cali, I must say this place is mediocre. For this area, it will suffice I suppose. I used to be able to pick up better food off the taco trucks in the corner of the street and elote from the laundromats while I folded my clothes. They cater to American taste buds so you’ll have wierd combos and people who have no idea what authentic is, claiming it’s authentic.

Pros: We liked the corn tacos. Al Pastor was my favorite. Beer prices are good. Refied beans and cheese sauce were also very good. Salsa was yummy Cons: Services was slow, especially considering there was only one other table with customers. Servier was adaquate, but not friendly. Seemed preoccupied. Menu was somewhat limited. On the night we went, they were not playing music, rather it sounded like Tela Novela(mexican soap opra) playing loudly. It was kind of distracting. Not sure if we will be back.

So. Much. Food. I almost couldn’t finish. My friend and I went after a jog around Nolan Trail. I had read the good reviews and decided I’d get some Mexican food. the server lady was really nice and checked up on us frequently. very polite. let me start off by saying the chips and salsa were AMAZING. super spicy and just overall delicious. Wasn’t really sure on what to get, so I just ordered the Carne Asada and a Mango Margarita. The margarita… was SUPER syrupy and sweet. it was ridiculous to drink. I had to brace myself every time I tried to drink it. when you lift the straw, you could see just how syrupy it was. believe it was more syrup than alcohol. I wouldn’t recommend getting that one in particular anyway. The carne asada was okay, they gave a lot of beef however it was very tough and chewy. The rice was good, refried beans were okay, though the cheese(I think it was cheese) on top was cold and hard. The corn tortillas are amazing. I would honestly go back just for them.

NOGRINGOS. Apparently. We came in and were the only ones, but there’s a couple of guys at the bar and one other table had people. It took a good 10 minutes before anyone even came to take our drink order, we ordered our food at the same time. Around that time another table came in, immediate service for them. So we wait another 10 minutes or so before our drinks come out(just tea, nothing fancy) & some chips & salsa. And then wait, and wait, and wait. No one checks on us at all. The table that came in after us gets their food. We’re starting to look at each other like WTF. The server finally comes over and says our food is not ready yet & it will be about 7 more minutes(it’s already been about 30 and HELLO this is Mexican food — usually my favorite and also usually out in 5 from when you order!). Server says do we want some more water(our tea is empty at this point) I say well we had tea. «Oh, no, sorry, no more tea». So ok, coke and water. More chips? No thanks. And we wait some more. About 5 – 10 minutes go by before I look at my phone’s clock, then wait another 8 minutes and STILLNOFOOD. Other than to bring the«refilled» drinks no further acknowledgment from the server. We got up and left. We will not ever go back. Can’t even say how the food might be because we never got any. But that table that came in a good 10 – 15 minutes after us? Oh yeah they got food. They were all but done eating when we left.

Wow, the best tacos I’ve had on the east coast! They bring out a mustard and ketchup bottle, but they turned out to be hot sauce(in the ketchup bottle) and tomatillo sauce(in the mustard bottle). Next time I’m getting the fajitas because my coworker raved so much about them. A previous reviewer commented that the music they play is more authentic Mexican… It was authentic Mexican Rap music, for sure! Either way, it was a delicious lunch. They also have a little Mexican grocery attached to the restaurant, where I bought some Mexican Oregano. I’m too much of a wimp to try the Chili de Naranja(Orange Chile) spice.

I love that false sense that I discovered some hidden gem every time I go into a new restaurant. I feel like Magellan happening upon a new and unexplored world. That’s how I felt when I walked into Chucho’s. Of course others had been here before me, their Unilocal reviews were the reason I chose this spot. However, there was still a sense of «newness» to the place. I was pleased to enter a Mexican restaurant that wasn’t crowded beyond belief with throngs of folks wanting their yearly margarita on Cinco de Mayo. I was kindly greeted by Alejandra, a charming woman who turned out to be my bartender for this exploration. She was attentive, accommodating, and smiling the whole time. When she told me the happy hour pricing, I thought I would fall overboard. I hope these low costs hang around a while. The general food pricing is a little cheaper than other restaurants, but the key to the«wow» factor are their amazing specials. Tack on the fact that they offer breakfast starting at 10am and it becomes hard to imagine a reason not to visit. With the new City Center crossing, this place is about 4 minutes from my office, I know I won’t be able to make an excuse to try out their authentic-looking grub.

This is pretty legit. Hasn’t been Americanized, yet. So far the best Mexican spot I have gone to out here in Virginia. Pros: They got almost everything you can think of. They even have some items most places don’t offer out here — birria, lengua, cabeza, guaraches, caldo de camaron, coctel! They have a lot of aguas frescas — pineapple, mango, horchata, and tamarindo. One thing that really set this place above others was their rice. You can tell a lot about a Mexican place on how well they cook their Mexican rice, theirs was legit and well done. Oh, and they play actual Mexican music(chilango type of music), not salsa/tango or whatever the hell they play at so called legit Mexican spot. Oh, and Mexicans come here too, so that just tells ya how authentic this place is, it’s got its own people coming! Lots of parking and friendly staff! Cons: I am used the California’s taco shops which are super cheap so to come out here to these Mexican restaurants and look at the prices, it’s pretty expensive, in my opinion. But I guess since they are so rare, they up the prices up in these areas. Another thing that was kind of a turn off and could be done better was their chips salsa and side salsas. It’s not bad, but they could be better. Other than that, nothing else to really complain about. What did I get, you may ask? Green chicken enchiladas with a side of Mexican rice. Flushed it down with some pineapple agua fresca. It was good. Almost as good as my mama’s! So, come on by and bring your goofy looking friends and have a little taste of Mexico. Come before the white people try to modify the menu making this restaurant like the others in town — wack. And please, bump that nasty ass Los Paisas restaurant across the street. Thanks for your undivided attention.

Best Mexican restaurant on the peninsula(at least that I’ve tried). Really cheap lunch specials. Family friendly, clean, and they have a lot of booths. Love the salsa and the cheese dip. Service is very attentive and fast.

Had two tacos, not the tiny street tacos I imagined. I loved the lengua & al pastor. Two is my max here. The salsas and guacamole are delicious. This place offers horchata, not many do in Newport News. I’ll be back to try other dishes.
