Campbell County Public Library Newport Branch

I can’t believe that other Unilocalers have described the staff at this library as ‘tired’. By complete contrast I have always … ALWAYS … found them to be perfectly attentive, extremely helpful and very friendly indeed. They’re calm under pressure too, even when I have had a problem with an order or a missing book, never dealing with the issue in anything but a professional manner.
No complaints either with the library — or its offerings. A nice selection of new books every month, an always-​surprising choice of recently released DVDs and older issues of magazines that, unlike (for instance) the downtown library, do not look as if they have been rolling around on the floor of a public bathroom for a few months before being stacked on the shelf.
There’s lots of computer terminals for those that need them (and a lot do as there is rarely an empty chair at any of the desks), a dedicated Kentucky history room (which my wife — a genealogy geek to the extreme — LOVES) and a nice and airy atmosphere to make everyone feel comfortable.
And books. Lots and lots and lot of books.

Whenever I reserve a book here it usually comes in pretty quickly. They also give you a generous 4-​week checkout period. I also like how they carry both Citybeat and Metromix — usually I can only find one or the other at a place, but not both.
Don’t hold your breath waiting for someone to answer your phone call, though. Every time I’ve tried to call I can never get a human on the line.

Driving along 471 Southbound, you can catch a glimpse of Newport Library right before the Memorial Parkway exit. Located across from Newport High School, this large library serves the urban community.
This library has a spacious, modern facility. My favorite aspect is the Kentucky Room, an entire area dedicated to locally written books about Kentucky, Ohio, and Greater Cincinnati. (Yes! There are more than enough books on this area to fill up an entire room!) There are also a couple tables in this room for on-​site research. Most of the Kentucky Room books are available for check out.
A large glass window overlooks 471 and is surrounded by several, large, plush chairs. This area often hosts acoustic musicians on weekends. It can be somewhat distracting for patrons coming to read or use the nearby computers, however many people seem to gather and enjoy the music.
Speaking of computers, they are well used here at the Newport branch. It is hard to find an open computer at this library. There is also a meeting room for adult and children’s presentations. Everyone from the Cincinnati Museum Center to paranormal investigators have given talks here.
The librarians are all very friendly and recognize regular patrons. I do agree with Howard M.‘s mention of the staff looking tired… and yes, this is likely because of all the Newportians who wander in only to troll the internet. The Newport library is noisier than other libraries, but they do have a nice venue and organized selection of books.
In the summertime, the library hosts Art After Hours; a large festival displaying works for purchase from local artists, a stage with folk musicians, and an entire room full of free food and wine. It was a very elaborate and entertaining event for the community.
Newport Library provides a much needed service to the community. Check it out if you’re in the neighborhood!

The library staff is nice but just looks tired. I’m guessing it’s from all the folks who come each day and never crack a book, but hope on the interwebs for their daily dose of porn or troll through the movies. Or the kids loudly playing some roll game.
The building is beautiful, I just would like it to be more of traditional library than a community center/​rec hall/​freebie Blockbuster. I’ve no problem with a diverse crowd, but if all the dollars spent on internet access, computers, Wii games, and DVDs of shows that TBS has been rerunning for the last year were put into filling the holes in the libraries book selection, I’m sure these folks would never make it in but book lovers would stay, browse, read, and maybe even socialize. Instead they’re chased out and if they even bother coming, take their books over to Starbucks or the coffee shop inside… Barnes & Noble.

This local library is located so close to my house that it’s a shame I don’t visit more frequently. I find myself taking advantage of their bad black and white copier when I do visit. The video selection is decent though nothing compared to the Downtown, Cincinnati branch. I’ve found a few foreign films but not much else. Located across from the Newport public high school, this new library offers a lot of programs that are oriented towards children.

Attractive and roomy, this is one of Campbell County’s three branch libraries, and its newest (built in 2004). It was plenty busy when I was there on a Monday afternoon, with patrons using the computers, searching for books, reading magazines, etc.
After browsing the new book section and perusing a few magazines, I headed to the front desk to get my Campbell County library card. The employee who assisted me was helpful and made the process efficient and painless.
I also noticed a great children’s book area and plenty of community information located at the entrance of the library. The library also provides free events for the public; check their web site for a schedule.
