I ordered the fish and chips and one of them came out raw when I bit into the middle of it. There still blood in the fish. I told the waitress and instead of giving me a new piece of fish they re threw it back into deep fryer which I thought was unsanitary. Don’t think I’ll be returning here again and I will not refer anyone to come here either.

The clam chowder is the only reason this place even gets two stars. It was very good, however, nothing else was. I had the fish sandwich. The fish had absolutely no flavor. It was subpar at best. The service was okay. Our waitress was nice enough, but the person helping to bus was rude. I will not be back.

The staff is pretty horrible. They do not make eye contact. They walk away when you have been standing waiting your turn. They are not informed or pleasant. Pretty young staff — maybe family members being forced to work the counter or just generally not trained in good customer service. I’ve hesitated posting this review for years now and keep going back thinking I’ll pick up some crab or rockfish — but always more of the same horrible service and walking away empty handed. Local Ocean or Chelsea Rose is the place to go!

Went for the fish and chips and to be honest the fish was pretty good. Sadly, the fries were cold when they got to the table. We also were not brought utensils so we could not eat our slaw. We felt really bad when we went to settle our check and the table next to ours, who was also paying told us they never even got three of their orders delivered! It was very clear something was going wrong in the kitchen. The manager explained to a group of us that there had been an issue and she was trying to get it worked out… not a good lunch at the peddler. Hence my 2 star rating. Service seriously lacking.

Had lunch here today. Very reasonable prices for seafood. I had Fish and chips with fries and cole slaw. 8.95 Three huge pieces of rock cod with a planko breading. Large amount of fries. The server was attentive, knowledgable and friendly. Was able to purchase fresh shrimp and have it ready to take home, when we finished eating. I have tried many seafood places in Newport. This is the best!!!

Read good reviews about this market so we decided to buy some crab & oysters there. Oysters were good, crab not. We were told that the crab was fresh but it was tasteless and rubbery. If you buy crab there, make sure it’s fresh! Taste before you buy!

Decent Halibut and Chips couldn’t overcome poor cleanliness and awful service. When asked for a recommendation, our server said she didn’t know because she hates fish. Should have run right then. Our bad…

We’ve been coming to The Fish Peddler for years. Our favorites are the chowder bowl and halibut & chips. The cheesy garlic bread is very tasty. It’s fun go watch them process shrimp through the viewing window, too.

Just walked out of this restaurant. Place was slow and all tables were dirty. Waitresses were having a conversation in Spanish and never cleaned anything and never took our order. Didn’t seem to care less about any customers. Time to get a real Manager.

Good crab melt sandwich. Cheap whole steamed Dungeness for only $ 19.95! Excellent peddler burger!

Love this place. Good fresh seafood and friendly service. I got the Po Boy Oyster sandwich and a cup of clam chowder. The clam chowder was delicious and the sandwich was awesome. Price is very fair.

While walking around the Newport bay, we decided to stop in here for a cup of chowder and a sandwich. The chowder tasted like it wasn’t really fresh… very thin and not a lot of flavor. The crab sandwich was good, a bit too cheesy, but the crab did taste fresh. The server seemed to have wayyyyy better things to do than actually check back with us. She was not friendly at all, and only came to our table to take our order and deliver our food… never came back to check on us even though we were only one of two tables of 2 in the restaurant. The restaurant was clean, and it was interesting to watch the fish processing through the windows, but this alone would not bring us back to this establishment.

Absolutely delicious! The clam chowder is to die for! It’s creamy and hearty. I’m not a huge soup/chowder fan but after trying a bite of my husband’s chowder, I couldn’t stop! My husband had clam strips & chips(again, not one of my favorites, yet I couldn’t stop eating them). They were great and it came with a lot of food! I had Dominic’s fish & chips. And, again, tasty and tons of food. This place is a small little fish market. The menu is pretty straight forward and seating is minimal. But, it’s a perfect place for a quick, tasty, inexpensive meal on the coast.

Really tasty fish and chips. Fast, efficient service. Excellent value for money. We were a large group(11), but they were really great at accommodating us. Would definitely go back again.

The food was really good. My wife loved the fresh fish. Living in Atlanta we dot get that much truly fresh fish. We must have come during a rush at 2 pm cause the place was packed. There isn’t a lot of seating inside. Although you get to watch the shrimp be processed which is real neat. Also they have some great historical pictures on the walls. Service was a little slow. I feel if I came during a non rush time I might give this place a 4.

Very good. Fish tacos are AWESOME! Steamed crab came hot with warm lemon butter. We also had slumgullion(shrimp chowder) and fish n chips for the kids. It is more of a street side chowder/seafood house than a restaurant. The food is just as good if not better than the rest of the chowder places near by.

This place is a fish market first and a restaurant second, so don’t change out of your t-shirt and flip flops. The Fish Peddler serves seafood as fresh as you can get. You can even watch them process their shrimp through a viewing window in the dining room. I had the prawns and chips(fried prawns & french fries) and my husband ordered Dominic’s fish & chips. Both were delicious and crispy. We tried 3 different kinds of clam chowder while in Newport for the weekend and the chowder at the Fish Peddler was definitely the best. Creamy, good amount of clams and delicious. I will come back here every time visit Newport!

Nice spot but the selection was a little lean for a Sunday afternoon. We ended up having to head to the competition to get what we were looking for. I’m sure there are good most of the time though.

Newport’s thriving bayfront wouldn’t be the same without this gem. Look, this is a market first, that happens to serve a limited menu. By far, it’s jam-packed shrimp cocktail for $ 2.95 is epic. My other fav is the cioppino fish stew, which they make fresh with the ingredients out of the fish case right in front of you. It’s very good… But for me, those two items stand as tall, if not taller, than the rest on the bayfront. I also enjoy buying a nice bag of large scallops and xtra small oysters and taking them back to the weekend hideout, to get my fry on! Great prices. Cool little market.

Order chowder like a boss. It comes hot as lava like a boss. Nice and creamy like a boss. The family is Latino like a boss. They got a window for viewing the process like a boss. Styrofoam everything like a boss. Don’t give a rat’s ass about the environment like a boss. The chowder is the best in Newport like a boss.
