History

Established in 2007.

Dr Nathan Tilman took over the dental practice of Dr Philip Baskin in May 2007. Dr Baskin had been in practice in Newport since 1985 and had built a wonderful family dental practice. With the help of Dr Baskin’s great dental team and patients, Dr Tilman infused a youthful energy and updated techniques and dental technology into an already thriving practice. One year later, when another local dentist, Dr Rick Frank moved from Aquidneck Island, Dr Tilman welcomed Dr Frank’s previous patients.

In November 2012, Dr Tilman and his team relocated to a beautiful, state-​of-​the-​art new facility on Broadway in the heart of Newport. With a focus on high tech dentistry and cosmetic dental treatments, Dr Tilman and his team can provide all dental care for you and your family.

Dr. Nathan W. Tilman is originally from Salisbury, Maryland, received his Bachelor of Science from Wake Forest University in 1997. He received his doctorate from the University of Maryland Dental School in 2001 as class valedictorian. After dental school, Dr. Tilman served as a Dental Officer in the United States Navy for four years. During this time, he completed a one year hospital-​based General Practice Residency, and served for two years onboard USS Ashland (LSD 48) where he was deployed for six months in the Arabian Gulf. After completing his military service, Dr. Tilman worked in a private practice in Virginia Beach for one year until moving to Newport in June of 2006.

Since starting his practice here, Dr. Tilman has made it a priority to incorporate the latest dental technology, including digital x-​rays, CEREC single-​visit crowns, and advanced dental imaging to ensure that your dental treatment is the safe, efficient and long lasting.

I had my first experience with Dr Tillman’s office this week and I was blown away! First I had called to make an appointment, but was not able to get one till April. However, they were very kind and offered to put me on the «cancel» list. Well after only about a week I received a call and had an appointment the next morning at 8 am. I arrived a bit early knowing there would be paperwork for my first visit. I was in need of a cleaning and a tooth was chipped needed to be filed. I did not wait long and was greeted by a very nice girl. She gave me my paperwork and I found that she had filled in the information I had already provided! How nice is that, most of the time you have to write your address and insurance information only after you just gave it to them over the phone! Not here, they take care of it for you. Once I was back in the chair, the cleaning went smoothly and the hygienist was nice and had good «bed side manner». I did not wait long when she was done and Dr Tillman came in. He was kind and nice, I did not feel rushed with my questions and felt good. I had to make another appointment to have a cavity fixed and then to smooth my chipped tooth. I go check out and I was given an appointment only 2 days away at a perfect 7:30 am time! I was so happy to not have to miss work and get my teeth fixed quickly! This morning I arrived a few min early again, but this time due to snow! I was greeted by a very nice hygienist who was just letting me know what was going on and that she would be with me in just a few min. Again, quick service. I was brought back, Dr Tillman came right to my chair, chatted a moment and talked about the process, then began. All said and done I was out of the office in about 30 min. Feels wonderful and highly recommend them to anyone!

Just moved to area and needed a dentist and I found a good one. He worked me in to fix a broken filling even before I had a cleaning. Nice guy, funny chair side manner, and good work. I will go back just because he was very courtesy and helpful.

My experience at Dr. Tillman’s office was overall very good. The people seemed pleasant. The hygienist and the dentist were both very friendly, thoughtful, and I didn’t feel rushed. If it is a plus dr. Tillman is also pretty attractive. There are pictures of him, his wife, and their kids playing on a video screen in each patient area. Smart move on his wife’s part. I will go back and he will be my dentist because, as I said, he and the hygienist were both really lively. My one concern, and this is something that really annoys me and I simply do not understand how they can get away with it, is there are no (or few) walls. As soon as the hygienist escorted me in the «office» I said, «huh. What do you do about keeping confidentiality? With not having walls and all.» She said, «you know, no one has ever mentioned it. Usually people are so focused on there own experience they don’t even think about it I guess.» This was the WRONG answer. So the hygienist and the dentist did my consult right there, with a few shelves and office noise separating me from the other patients. Like I said, i’ll go back just because it was so pleasant, but I also have a major issue with the ethical ramifications of no walls in my doctors office. I think they sacrificed my confidentiality for the office esthetics. I am not sure how many stars to give him. If it were for him, he would get 4-​but because of the serious issue of privacy, he gets three.

This review is for the admin side of this office. After my introduction to this office, I decided to go with a different dentist so didn’t have an appointment here.
I recently moved to the area and was looking for a new dentist. I was attracted to Dr. Tilman’s office because of the modern technologies they offer, including electronic x-​rays. I made an appointment for a cleaning, and the office sent over a new patient paperwork packet. It explained that my first appointment would be a check up only, not a cleaning (as I had requested and thought I’d scheduled). It also said it would be $ 25 if I wanted a copy of my records. And last, it requested (not mandatory) that I sign a copy of their privacy policy… that was not included in the information packet. The policies just weren’t a good fit for me. Though the office seems organized and efficient, sending out the forms ahead of time, they were not very friendly on the phone both times I spoke to them, and I decided to go with a different dentist.

Had my first visit here the other day. I am always nervous about making Dr.‘s appts on my lunch break, but this was the only time I was available. They got me in and out in a little under an hour, which was pretty good. It could have been faster if I would have brought up that I was in a rush. I love going to the dentist and having my teeth cleaned (weird, I know) and they did a good job. Not too much pain and their office is really nice. It’s in a great location and has off street parking as well. Plus they were really good about calling me a couple days before. Nothing sucks like getting a bill for a missed appointment when they didn’t call to remind. I will be back in 6mos!

Nathan Tilman is a great caring young dentist. He is very good with people. I’m very afraid of the dentist, but he has his way to make you calm. Must go to dentist. !!!
