History

Established in 2010.

Balera was established with the idea of welcoming competitive and social dancers in a dance environment where they would strive to be their best while still having fun. Balera’s ownership changed in February 2014 with locally and nationally renowned Ballroom dancers Liene Apale and Basil Issaev.

Meet the Business Owner

Business Owner

Basil Issaev and Liene Apale are the proud owners of Balera.

Basil was a National Amateur Finalist multiple times. He was also the Professional Norwegian Champion and Representative to the World Championship representing Norway.

Liene was twice the undefeated Amateur Champion, Professional National Finalist, US Representative to the World Champion, and Ohio Star Ball Professional Winner. In four years of dancing together they took part to over 70 professional events, winning over 20 professional titles. In addition to a very successful career together, Basil and Liene teach many successful students and are considered the Top Ballroom instructors in New England and beyond. Their students range from professionals to amateur couples of various ages.

I learned about this place through a living social deal. Prior to purchasing the deal i checked the website for a discription of what the clas entailed and it stated:
«A wedding is the beginning of your journey together and our goal is to create a first dance that is unique, memorable and expresses the love you share as a couple. Learning to dance is an opportunity to learn and grow together while accomplishing the goal of a first dance for your wedding.
Our qualified instructors take the time to teach not only the basics, but are able to choreograph a dance from beginning to end to the wedding song you choose.»
My fiancé and I took the «wedding dance» class based on the offer that was provided by living social– and were taught 3 steps and the instructor proceeded to «up-​sell» us. I understand that everyone’s ability is different and as such what can be accomplished in a 45 min class needs to be clearer. Rather than just offering one class they need to specifically spell out that the program entails multiple classes and the instructor has no intention of choreographing a dance during the first lesson.
Regardless, we had fun and our instructor was friendly and enthusiastic; i just wish the information we were provided was clearer

My husband and I decided to take dance lessons at Balera in preparation for our wedding. Our only goal was to not look like complete idiots — something that could have happened since we are horrible at dancing.
Johnny, who is also the owner of Balera Ballroom Dance Studio, was our instructor. He was absolutely fantastic. Johnny had so much patience with us and was able to teach us the two-​step, despite our lack of rhythm or ability. Johnny made our dance lessons fun, and we began to look forward to our weekly dance lessons. It is also because of Johnny that we heard roars of applause as we did every turn and twirl during our first dance on our wedding day.
I highly recommend Balera to any bride and groom looking to learn a few dance steps for their first song. To warn you however, do not be intimidated when you first step on the dance floor. Balera teaches some very experienced ballroom dancers in addition to beginners. One time, when we had one of our dance lessons, the world champion of ballroom dance was there giving lessons to people who could have been national champions. If anything, by having these very experienced dancers with you on the dance floor makes you feel like you are part of Dancing with the Stars!

My husband and I found a deal on Ruelala for Balera and decided to try it out for our wedding first dance. Our instructor was Johnny who we found out was also the owner. He was amazing! Really nice, easy to talk to, and really got to know our learning style. My husband and I are very different and Johnny figured it out right away. We had so much fun and learned a ton at the same time. so much fun that we decided to sign up for 4 more classes leading up to the wedding. It became a fun night out and something we could do together! We are now talking about signing up for more lessons to continue having a fun thing for us to learn together. Johnny really understood not only dance but what it takes to work together and be partners!

My wife and I had taken one private dance lesson prior to our wedding and we found a groupon at Belara offering a private dance for like 80% off. We figured we could use this to brush up on the skills we learned from our previous instructor. We show up at this dance studio and we meet our instructor who was friendly and very polite. Unfortunately there was also some sort of group Asian dance thing going on so there were people speaking Chinese and flowing all over the dance floor. We were relegated to one corner of the dance floor and we couldn’t play our own music. I can’t dance to begin with and now I’m supposed to try and dance with strange Chinese music in the background? This was less than ideal and although we did learn a few new pointers I think it’s tough to say this was a valuable private lesson.
