We are exclusively a residential painting company, focused solely on working in furnished or unfurnished homes. We know what it takes to work around kids and pets, and we are exceptional at keeping our projects clean and tidy. We are an EPA certified firm so working where lead paint is present is not an issue — we use HEPA-​filtered vacuums on every job and when helpful, use HEPA room filters to ensure there is zero dust migration from our work area into your home.

I’d like to talk about what makes Catchlight different.

When we started in 1994 our goal was simple; to paint well and to provide a level of service exceptional enough to build customer loyalty and help our business grow through referrals.

Painting is a craft. When done well, a new finish should be both beautiful and lasting. Equally important, the experience of having painters work on your home should bring you a measure of pride and satisfaction. I’d like to touch on the topic of value. We charge $ 65 per hour for our service. Here is what $ 65 per hour buys: an experienced, courteous, efficient and careful painter, focused on your needs and the particulars of your project. We offer our employees health insurance and benefits, and hire only the best.

I started painting in college at UC Berkeley, and after finishing a graduate degree opened my own painting company in order to pay off student loans. At the time I thought this venture a temporary detour from a career that would better leverage 2 degrees in international relations. But I soon realized running a small business was by far the more challenging career path — even if I sometimes feel a bit like a one-​armed juggler!

Catchlight is now a company of 18, striving to deliver more than just a good paint job. We believe our customers should be genuinely pleased they choose us so we carefully screen our crew and, most importantly, we hire motivated individuals who enjoy what they do.

Catchlight offers health and retirement benefits, paid time off and always puts family first. This may make our pricing higher than others, but our testimonials and referrals are a strong endorsement that we live up to our customer’s expectations.

My 122 year old home needs a paint job, and I want it done right. I was doing my own research online about best practices and materials after receiving conflicting ideas from several contractors.
I stumbled upone Catchlight’s website, and spent nearly an our reading over their very informative articles.
I would love to hire these guys, the only reason I can’t, is because I live in Chicago.
On a whim, I emailed them to see if they could answer a couple of questions for me. Nigel wrote me back immediately and told me to call him. He spent 10 minutes on the phone with me and answered all my questions.
He was very polite, and very helpful. all for someone who lives 1,000 miles away with no chance of getting a job out of it.
If this is what they do for someone they know they won’t get a job out of. I can only imagine how well they treat their local customers.

We were very impressed with Catchlight Painting. We had a need for some touch up work in our living room and also a full paint job in our bedroom. Nigel and his team were very accommodating to our needs. The entire process, from quote to finished work was very easy. Cole, the painter who performed the work is top notch. Her touch up work is the best we’ve ever seen and she cleaned up as she went along. We highly recommend the Catchlight team and will definitely use them again!

We hired Catchlight to paint an intricate ceiling in our home in Somerville. They came highly recommended from Miggy and Roisin at Twelve Chairs in Boston (an amazing furniture store/​interior decorators!), and we wanted to make sure the job was done right. Nigel came to the house and explained the cost and the process, and emailed us a quote. We gave them the go-​ahead, and the painting was scheduled that week. His crew was skilled and courteous, and did a fantastic job.

Brian scheduled service for less than 24 hours after I called which was great! Tim showed up to paint right at 7am as promised and did a fantastic job. A very clean, tidy, and immaculate job done for 7 hours. He was able to finish the walls, closet, trim, and baseboard of an 8×10 room in record time! Definitely recommended.

I had a fantastic experience with Catchlight Painting this week! I wanted to paint an accent wall and when I realized how much taping was involved (2 windows, moldings, fireplace, shelf and a mounted TV that swung out which he had to work behind as removing would have been too difficult), I contacted 3 different painting companies including one I had used twice in the past. Nigel at Catchlight was the first to respond (one of the 3 never bothered to call back at all). Nigel explained that I’d be hiring a painter for the full day, so along with the accent wall; I decided to refresh the entire living room. Catchlight sent out TIM, who arrived 2 minutes early (as my Dad is fond of saying, «if you’re not early, you’re late»). He was friendly and professional. I explained what I wanted and that once he was done with the accent wall and living room, if he had time, could he also do the hallway leading from the first to second floor. Never could I imagine that he would actually get all of that completed in 8 hours, but he did! He was completely diligent, smoothing any uneven surfaces, filling nail holes, etc… He gave excellent advice as well (we have a half wall that I wanted painted in the accent color but my husband did not… once we talked to Tim about how it would blend with the accent wall, I got my half wall in the shade I wanted and my husband has to admit, it looks fantastic!). Also, I had asked Tim to use a Valspar Crystal additive to give the accent wall a subtle gold sparkle. Although he had not seen the product before, he didn’t balk at the request and was happy to learn about a new product. I couldn’t be happier with the work that was completed and the professionalism of the entire Catchlight operation. The price was more than fair as well! I am a real estate appraiser who is often asked for recommendations from new home owners for painters, HVAC people, roofers, etc… I will absolutely without hesitation be referring anyone in need of a painter to Catchlight!

A few weeks ago I searched for a painter who could deliver prompt service and great attention to detail… and I found one! Catchlight Painting was a delight to work with from the first phone call and beyond the completion of the job.
After reading several great Unilocal reviews I called Catchlight. I received a phone call back from the owner within minutes and had a confirmation email for our appointment (which was the next day!) just moments after our phone call.
Our home had pretty severe water damage from a roof leak. Catchlight’s team of painters were on time (they agreed to arrive after my kids left for school), very courteous and detail oriented. They cleaned up each night and left my home neat and organized. I have a neighbor who builds homes for a living, he commented on the exactness of the paint line from ceiling to wall! Nigel, the owner, called each day to see how things were going and to make sure I was satisfied.
I could not be more pleased with Catchlight. It is my recent experience that very few service providers operate in this high level of professionalism. I recommend them to anyone looking for a great team of painters who get the job done on time and within budget. They were a pleasure to work with.

This company does excellent work. I would rehire them in a minute. I appreciated it that the painters did not play their radios or other audible devices in our house. They painted several interior rooms, a bathroom and a hall. The painters did not interfere with our family life. Nigel (the owner) carefully explained ahead of time the nature of the work that would be done. His workers were very careful not to allow lead paint chips or dust into the rest of the house as they did the surface prep. The job began and ended as scheduled and there was a good cleanup at the end.

I had a dull kitchen that needed updating, so I gave Catchlight a call on a whim.
Not only was Catchlight available at the last minute, but they have a great deal called «Painter for a Day.» For a reasonable flat fee, a professional and courteous painter will show up and do a day’s work.
The painter that Nigel (the owner) sent was terrific. Not only was he polite (concerned about his shoes when he entered, asking which bathroom he was allowed to use, inquiring about where he can leave his things), but there was not a speck of dirt left in my kitchen after he painted. He cleaned up the entire kitchen even did the couple of dirty dishes that were left in the sink!
Moreover, I don’t usually feel comfortable leaving contractors alone in my house. However, I felt so at ease with the Catchlight crew that I left for a spell, did some much-​needed errands, and came back to a newly transformed kitchen!
Perhaps the best part of this experience was getting a REFUND check for slight overpayment. I cannot say enough nice things about this company — their reliability, honesty, and courteousness was outstanding. Give them a call. You won’t be sorry.
