Business Owner

Leah (Shilmover) Karpelson, M. Ac., Dipl. Ac., earned a Master’s degree in Acupuncture from the New England School of Acupuncture. Prior to studying acupuncture, Leah earned her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology with a focus on Child Development and a minor in accounting.

Leah’s areas of interest include helping those dealing with depression and anxiety, particularly panic disorder. Leah also focuses on acupuncture for fertility, menstrual issues, and pregnancy-​related symptoms.

Leah’s extensive clinical experience at the New England School of Acupuncture student clinic, Lemuel Shattuck Hospital, and the Elder Service Plan of the North Shore included 630 clinical hours and 136 different patients.

We now also offer massage with very talented massage therapist, Dmitriy Gervagin.

One appointment is all you need to become a believer at point and balance acupuncture. After my first visit my years of built up aches and pains from avid running seemed to disappear. I also regained mobility I hadn’t even realized I lost. Leah is warm, smart, and effective. She takes a detailed health background and checks in with you every visit on things you had forgotten you told her. The atmosphere is inviting and judgement free. I recommend P&BA to all my friends l, family and colleagues. Don’t waste another second, try it today!

I have been going to Leah for acupuncture on and off for over a year now. She is not the first acupuncturist I have seen, as a matter of fact I think I have been to around 10.
I wouldn’t even consider switching and ended up working around her schedule which I don’t really do for many people.
She has helped with my knee and anxiety. The big ticket item was my migraines which I have suffered from for years. She is the only acupuncturist that has helped as this has been an on going problem for over 8 years.
I would recommend her to anyone

Leah has been my savior over the past few weeks as I’ve dealt with a sudden, random episode of ear ringing/​noise sensitivity brought on by clogged sinuses. She is incredibly flexible and was there for me with both treatment and sound advice on very short notice when my anxiety was getting the best of me. I was a very skeptical newbie, but am a total convert now and hope any fence-​sitters reading this will go ahead and take the acupuncture-​plunge with Leah. Her demeanor and life experience make her perfectly suited for what she does. Whether you’re experiencing some malady or just want to ‘feel better’, I could not recommend her more.

Professional, courteous, and knowledgeable, Leah introduced me to acupuncture.
I was pretty skeptical about the needles and the stabbing with the needles. But she put my mind at ease, and then did the same to my toothache. And then a headache, and a cranky shoulder, and an angry back… And when my mind needed more easing, there she was, with a needle and a specific treatment plan that made sense both when she talked about it, and administered it.
She even had some allergy-​taming magic!
The «Point and Balance» office is wonderfully comfortable place, easy to find, easy to park. There’s even a bus stop right outside.
Way to go, Leah!

I’ve been going to Leah for about 6 consecutive weeks now for my anxiety and overactive bladder and I can proudly say that I am running to the bathroom less and I am finally off my anxiety medication! It’s such a great and relaxing experience with Leah. The rooms are very calming and comfortable and Leah really takes the time to listen and understand what I need that day. She is able to adjust to what I’m feeling and is there for me in emergencies. I threw out my back the other day and was able to schedule an appointment with her asap. These things of course cannot wait and I definitely preferred going to acupuncture over seeing a chiropractor or taking pain medication.
I highly recommend seeing Leah if you prefer holistic care over western medicine. I even heard that she helped a few women become pregnant which is amazing.
You will not be disappointed!

Leah was great and very professional. This was my first time getting accupuncture, and I came in on recommendation from a friend. I had several symptoms, and Leah explained what she would do, and how she would choose to attend to each symptom.
I was very comfortable the entire time, and had a great first time experience with accupuncture. I will certainly see Leah again!

I have been a patient of Leah’s for almost a year. When I first saw her, I had never had acupuncture and was quite afraid of needles! She set my mind at ease and was very gentle. It made all the difference. With the right practitioner, it’s actually an enjoyable experience… and it WORKS!
While I was skeptical at first, I kept coming back weekly. Throughout my time with her, Leah has stopped my anxiety attacks (who knew acupuncture could do that?!), eased back pain, bloating, and shrunk a golf ball-​sized ovarian cyst in 17 days. But most importantly, she helped me with my fertility issues so that I could conceive! She’s very knowledgeable on current IVF /​assisted reproduction protocols, and knows precisely how to complement each cycle.
I can’t express how grateful I am to Leah, and I will continue to see her as I go through my pregnancy!
