So me and my girl go to feather bed in nice cus we reserved a room and the lady new owner was so rude and degrading as she said in discuss no we couldn’t have a room like we were bottom feeders… we have money we are clean iam respectfully. so iask who are any of you to judge the next person I don’t care what walk of life we are from every person has a story to tell u never no what that person is going through our has in the past she just strait up already had her mind made up that she was not going to give us a weekend room she looked at our faces and what we were driving and was like um no and closed the door… Wth is your problem you judgemental bitch how dare u U won’t make it ad a owner in lake country God will handle u for judging someone u don’t even know take the silver spoon out of your mouth and be a real person … Do not stay at featherbed and breakfast inn

Great weekend away! Paul, June and everyone else on staff were very friendly. Very good breakfast. The rooms were fantastic and we had a breathtaking view of the sunset. We will definitely be back!

Tony and Peggy are magnificent! If you have a chance to stay here you should! From the room to breakfast everything is perfect!

Just spent 3 days at this wonderful resort!!! The caboose are very fun themed clean and comfortable. The in keepers Tony and Peggy are the most amazing people to be around Peggy so sweet and thoughtful and Tony… Well what can I say he is hilarious and can keep you in stitches! I will be back!!!

My girlfriend and I are competitive when it comes to who can find the better unique getaway for a lovers’ weekend. After taking her on a blind «meet me at _​_​_​address» to the Featherbed Railroad, she forfeited. I won. We all won.
This place is at the perfect crossroads of beautiful kitsch /​/​distance from Bay overcrowding /​/​treasure in an unexpected place. You’d have to drive all the way to SLO’s Madonna Inn to find a place with as much character.
If I ever get a tax return again (cue sad violin), it’s going straight toward a week here with my girl. Seriously, I’m coming back as soon as I can.

I checked in on 2/​10, excited about staying the night in a railcar. But although supposedly they have Wi-​Fi on the dock and in the lobby, there doesn’t seem to be a Wi-​Fi connection at all. To make matters worse, although they say there is someone in the office from 3 to 7 PM at night, there’s nobody there most of the time. And if you call to try to reach someone on the telephone, no one returns the call. I am very disappointed with the lack of service.

I took my girlfriend here for her birthday. The pictures on the website don’t do the place justice! We stayed in La Loose Caboose, and OMG:
–Mirrors on the ceiling!
–La Playpen neon sign!
–Mustang Ranch memorabilia!
–Jacuzzi!
–Comfy bed!
In a freaking caboose. I was giddy. We relaxed, drank prosecco and ate chocolate cake in the jacuzzi. The owners even gave my sweetheart a little set of bath stuff as a birthday present upon check-​in (above and beyond what would normally be in the room — some luscious grapefruit sugar scrub, lip balm, and soap).
Breakfast was DIVINE, both mornings. Seriously impressed with the cooking.
We were fond of the robes in our room! Our one tip, as I mentioned to the owners, was to add some slippers in the room or more throw rugs as the marble floor in our caboose was FREEEEZING. We just laughed about it, but it would have been a very nice touch.
Thanks for a great weekend! We will definitely be back.

ZOMG. A caboose. Honey, we can stay in a caboose! Can we go there?
*Verifies price range.* Sure baby, it’s your weekend.
That’s the conversation I had with my bf the warrior when we were deciding what to do for my bday/​our anniversary. (6 months — woohoo!) And when I saw the Featherbed Railroad Company I KNEW that’s where I wanted to stay.
My instincts did not steer me wrong. I mean, how could they? They’re cabooses at a family run establishment.
What I liked:
* It’s a freaking caboose, people. Hello childhood!
* Family oriented environment — Tony and Peggy made us feel at home. They even make their staff feel like family. A staff girl felt comfortable enough to bring in and play with a puppy that she rescued off the street. That’s good people.
* Tony was very attentive. He was distracted by a huge fallen tree (!!!) on the pool and forgot to turn on our water heater but once we told him it was back on in 15 minutes. Understandable reason to forget but fantastic service to fix the issue.
* Grounds are nice — it was great to hang outside, and it’s nicely lit at night. Reminds me of a nice backyard
* The TropiCaboose (our budget friendly option) was clean and had everything: comfy bed, TV, coffee machine, fridge. Loved the headboard, white washed walls (so calming!) and pineapple pillow. Good sized bathroom, too. The warrior and I joked that we could live there for a few months.
*Put wine glasses in the room.
* The air conditioner worked really well — the caboose was cool throughout, except upstairs. Great on a 95 F day They even turned it on before our arrival!
* They respected our privacy — a definite plus for a romantic get away. But they will do housekeeping if you ask.
* The warrior likes a couple of smokes on vacation and there was a nice chill place were he could enjoy it, (AWAY from the cabooses if you don’t like smoke). We could even see the stars from that location
* Free wine tasting that Friday — it was a wine weekend and Tony «liked to start early.» My kind of guy.
* Good dinner suggestions by the guy who hosted the wine tasting.
*Delicous homemade brekkie. That sausage gravy — oh me, oh my! The 9 am breakfast time was perfect for us, too.
* Seriously, take their suggested directions if you don’t know the area. The route your GPS wants to take you winds up and down the mountain a lot with some hairpin curves. We found that out going back.
* The yellow breasted finches that came to visit us in the smoking area on Saturday afternoon.
What could have improved:
* More breakfast! It was so good.
* Less bugs — but Tony, I know there’s not much you could do about that. At least they stayed outside!
* If they had wine openers (waiters helper) with their logo, I totally would have bought one.
*Air conditioner was a little noisy but it worked so well that we could turn it off before we went to sleep and it stayed cool enough until morning. Also, not much the proprietor could do about that — it’s not like air conditioners are silent.
*Maybe a couple more creamers for the coffee machine in our room
*Taking home that cute little puppy Sydney brought in during the wine tasting.
* But really, not much, this place was awesome.
Conclusion:
If you like good company, a nice family environment, and the idea of a romantic get away in a railway car, this is the place for you. It’s not your run of the mill B&B — don’t expect fake English country or French Provencial. Do expect to be treated like an interesting person, enjoying your awesomely appointed caboose (with or without hot tub), and frolicking either in and around Clearlake or just enjoying your romantic getaway, if you know what I mean. ;)
Yay Featherbed Railroad! See you again next year! Hopefully we’ll be able to book Orient Express.

My husband and I stayed here recently for my birthday weekend. The caboose was cute and snug, but had everything we needed. The heating /​cooling unit in the wall was very loud and we couldn’t keep it on at night. The grounds are nice, but the oak trees seem to be in some distress ad there were a lot of limbs missing and they were looking sad.
When we checked in, the woman at the front desk was friendly enough, but when we asked about what to do around there and where to eat, she was not a wealth of knowledge. In fact, she told us that we could go swimming in the onsite pool. She said it’s just right next door and I almost jumped in it yesterday because it was so hot. Well, my husband and I were looking forward to lounging by the pool… but when we got there, it was locked and closed for the season!!! How could the front desk not know this?
They advertise «feather beds» and when I hear that, I think something lofty and cloud-​like. Boy was I wrong. The feather mattress topper was so compacted that it was like sleeping on a board. I had two of the worst nights sleep in ages. My hips were so sore every morning that I had a hard time walking when I first got up. It didn’t seem to bother my husband, but guys don’t have hips!
The breakfast Saturday was just terrible. Again, I think of a B&B with some good choices for breakfast; waffles, omelets, scrambled eggs, pancakes, fried potatoes… Not here! What we and all the other guests got was the same thing: one muffin sized frozen hash brown concoction, like frozen hash browns mixed with a little egg and a scant sprinkle of cheese, then baked. It was still watery in the center from not cooking enough of the «frozen» out of it. Along side was a miniature scone…2 small bites and this Costco scone was history, Finally, we got some watermelon balls in a small cup. Coffee and tea were available and we had a choice of tomato juice or OJ (in very small glasses). I’ve had so much better free breakfasts at motels — even they have waffle makers half the time and actual choices in food.
To top things off, breakfast is only served between 9:00 and 10:00! I have never seen anything so restrictive!
While we were in the dining room, another couple told the manager that their caboose didn’t have any bath towels and they had to use hand towels to dry themselves off after their showers. The manager asked «What caboose are you in so I know who to yell at?» Really? You actually said that out loud in front of all the other diners? So not cool.
I will say, they have a nice location on the banks of Clear Lake but they did not have any boats to rent like they advertised, so we were not able to enjoy the water by anything other than our eyes.
Sunday, we could not face another breakfast in the dining room. Luckily I had brought fruit salad and peanut butter and jelly fixings. We were so much more satisfied with our breakfast than theirs.
We would not return for a second visit.

You never know what you’re going to get at B&Bs, but we lucked out at this place because it exceeded our expectations!
As soon as we drove up to this place my fiancé and I were pleasantly surprised. The grounds are well-​maintained, quiet, and peaceful. The lake across the street provided a beautiful view from the B&B.
We stayed in the Orient Express and we loved it. We had a great view of the lake the entire time, and the TV in the room was positioned perfectly for us to watch movies while we soaked in the hot tub :). The bed was just heavenly. It was the most comfortable bed I’ve ever slept on and I loved the floor lights that automatically turned on at night when I got out of bed.
The B&B has a vast variety of movies to rent, teas, coffees, and popcorn to take back to your room, and a tandem bicycle to ride (if you’re up for it).
Breakfast was surprisingly declicious. We ate a mushroom and egg quiche. My fiancé typically hates these things but gobbled this one right up! I also loved the tasty little cinnamon scone that came with breakfast.
I enjoyed my stay here. The owners seem to pay a lot of attention to the small details that make B&Bs special. This was the perfect little getaway for my fiancé and me. We’ll definitely come back to visit again.

My wife and I just returned from there for her birthday weekend. We stayed in the lovers caboose. You immediately are made to feel welcome by the innkeepers Tony and Peggy.
Tony helped us set up a wine tour with Robert, Gluten Free cupcakes for my wife, and a nice in-​caboose couples massage by Shannon. Tony even helped us get a second dozen cupcakes to take home and freeze. They were that good.
Nice lead in for the breakfasts made by Tony and his lady. Not only are they delicious, They were able to take care of my wife’s needs as she is Celiac.
We will be back.

Perfect getaway place for a couple. We stayed there the weekend of Feb 14^th and enjoyed every bit of it. It feels secluded and cozy, like going back to the 80s. We loved the jaccuzzi and watching movies on a VCR !!
The owners Tony and Peggy are very friendly, they take care of all your needs and make you feel at home.
Would highly recommend to any couple who want some private alone time together :)

Stayed overnight on a business trip and loved it! Such a cool experience to sleep in a caboose. The jacuzzi tub was awesome but best of all was chatting w Tony over homemade breakfast (w dessert)!

I absolutely loved it here. Here is what you will experience:
1. Home made breakfast.
2. Views of the lake.
3. Unique room experience. There’s a hot tub in your room. SOFTEST sheets EVER.
4. Home away from home.
5. Dog friendly environment if you have a furry friend.
6. They have a deck on the lake
7. You MUST visit their local wineries while there!!!
8. The owners are the best. You will fall in love with them like we have.

We stayed back in Sept for our 2 year anniversary and it was awesome! We stayed in the Orient Express which had a deck out front over looking the lake. We stayed two nights and it was so much fun. We enjoyed the atmosphere and the owners were really nice. We traveled around the lake and tried some wineries. We even found a yummy brewery in Kelseyville which will definitely be visiting again. Oh and btw… The breakfast was delicious!!! My only dislike was the ingenuity it took for us to take a «shower» in the jacuzzi tub, it was definitely a team effort… I would definitely not want to spend more than a few days here cause I would need a real shower lol. We plan on coming back =)

First up, a heads up on this pet friendly property if bringing your pooch, and I add this as it was not something I thought of before. The steps into the cabooses are quite steep, and due to their pet policy only permitting smaller dogs (something I never quite understood, and I have rental property and rent to all sized well behaved dogs with no problems), you are going to have to probably carry your dog up and down the stairs. Have fun! Our dog was old and had cancer, which was the only reason she was below the weight restriction, so we were hauling her up and down. Fun stuff.
Loved the ground and lovely, quiet location. My favorite thing was probably the tree swing. I was also a huge fan of the amazing selection of teas (neither the DH or I, or the dog for that fact, drink coffee) and complementary microwave popcorn available for our consumption.
We used a Living Social deal for off season, so really, can’t have any complaints about what we paid. My only minor issue was the breakfast played on one of my pet peeves – the vegetarian options were basically the same without meat, ie, not a full meal. One morning all we received was a sliver of quiche and about 6 grapes, and the next day it was something French toast like. So, when the omnivores got their meal, it was a real meal, but we were still hungry after both breakfasts. When I made the reservation I told Tony that we were vegetarian but did not think to mention that I can’t eat sugar or sweets, especially as you don’t eat sugar for breakfast (or should not), so my bad. It’s not like there was not other food in town and I did not pass out from low blood sugar. I used the French toast to coat my old lady dog’s pills and she really enjoyed it, though!
Also, breakfast was later, I think 9−10am. I am a rise and shine and get movin’ kind of person, so for us it probably was not worth sticking around for.
Our room was the Tropicaboose, and honestly, we do not have any feelings towards Jimmy Buffet and my DH grew up in Hawaii and has no affinity for the tropics, so the décor would not have swayed us one way of the other. I really liked the two lofts that were great reading nooks.

The area where the bed and breakfast is located is horrible. As we were driving to the bed and breakfast (which was not easy to find even with a navigation system) a gentleman on a bike threw a beer can at our car as we drove by.
The grounds of the hotel are really beautiful. There are old growth trees and an awesome swing. My husband is a train enthusiast and a fisherman so this seemed like the perfect place to stay for a long weekend.
The trouble begins when you walk into the main building. It reeks of cigarettes and was really musty. The owners were very nice, I want to be clear on that point.
When I entered our railroad car (it was the western room) I was horrified by what I found. The room smelled like dirty diapers, there were cobwebs everywhere and it was very dusty. The bathroom was even worse. The bed was old and uncomfortable. Not what I expected for a $ 200 a night bed and breakfast. I have bad allergies and asthma and sitting in the room for twenty minutes made my throat and nose itch.
We paid $ 400 for two nights and left the same day we got there. Luckily, we lived in SF and were able to drive home that night.
I cannot speak for the other railroad cars. It’s possible that they were much cleaner than ours.
I would not recommend this Bed and Breakfast to anyone I know. We informed the male owner that the rooms were unacceptable and that we would be leaving. He didn’t do or say anything.

We were up in Clear Lake for a wedding and had a great 2-​night stay. The cabooses are fun and unusual. The lake is right across a street with very few cars passing. The grounds are cool and shaded by many trees. The pool area features nice shaded cabana. There is a front porch on the main building. The setting is obvious — this place is for relaxing.
The owners Tony and Peggy are very friendly and out going, with many helpful tips on the events in the area. (Next time we hope to locate the brewcycle.)
The breakfast is really good. The owners Tony and Peggy mentioned the food was from local sources. Both mornings featured inventive meals using fresh, locally grown peaches. The first morning we had delicious homemade grapefruit sorbet, peach french toast, and chicken sausage. The second we had hobo eggs and potatoes, fresh peaches, and scones with homemade jam. So good.
The two cabooses facing the lake must be nice. Next time…

WOW! What a great weekend! My wife took me here for my birthday, which fell on Easter this year. I was overly pleased with the caboose! We stayed in «The Laloose Caboose!» The theme is a bordello theme from the French quarter in New Orleans. Love the tacky colors, the décor was perfect for the theme! Tony and Peggy along with my wife planned out several surprises and we had a great experience.
We arrived on Friday afternoon and was greeted with a warm welcome! In the room was several gourmet cupcakes with «Happy Birthday Bob,» written on the case!
Saturday Tony and Peggy arranged a wine tasting/​tour in a Limo, after a delicious breakfast, French toast infused with bananas and some surgary goodness. Our driver was the best limo driver we have ever had and the wines he introduced us to could easily rival Napa any day for ¹⁄₃ the price.
Saturday night after a nap we met up with Tony and Peggy and some of the other people’s staying there to drink some wine. After having a few drinks the time slipped away and everyone almost forgot dinner. Tony made a quick call to a local restaurant in walking distance to have them keep the kitchen open. Food was good the service was good, but Tony and Peggy where definitely the highlight of the evening! Good food, good wine and great company!
Sunday came and the breakfast was some kind of delicious quiche with ham for Easter. Then it was an in room massage. That was awesome! Then we finished the afternoon with wine pairing and music in the main station. We had a blast, I could type all night long about how amazing the weekend was. I would like to thank Linda for one of the best birthdays ever!
I cannot say enough about Tony, Peggy and the experience at Featherbed Railroad. I can and will consider them friends and would like to thank them for their part in making this a memorable birthday. I hope that one day we can repay the favor!
Two thumbs up, five stars, 10 out of 10! However you want to look at it, simply the best!

There is so much to like about this unique B&B located right across the street from upper Clear Lake, but I have trouble seeing myself returning.
The hosts are delightful and make you feel like you have known them for decades. The location is beautiful. The breakfasts, great. The concept, clever. But the deciding factor, comfort, does not make the cut for me.
Each room is a refurbished, real caboose, spaced about 10 yards from each other, surrounded by large grassy areas and ancient shady oaks. Picture yourself in a large RV park or a cozy campground. There is a big wooden swing hanging from the branches of an old oak. Fresh air, a beautiful lake right across the street, cutsy little animal activity, all in a very low key setting. There is a small house in the back of the property where the dining room and check in desk are located… an easy outdoor walk to get there from your «room».
My first challenge — getting into the room. You must hoyst yourself up steep stairs by holding onto metal side rungs just like the real brakemen did, a bit awkward. You have to sling your bulky suitcases up onto the landing first. Mission accomplished but certainly not a place for the physically challenged.
Secondly, it was cold and damp the day we arrived, and the one heater inside was working full blast but inadequate for keeping the entire room warm. We cranked it up to 80 degrees so the middle was warm, but the extremities where the bathroom and spa bath were still chilly.
The bed is a real feather bed, softer than I normally prefer, but genuinely warm and cozy. There is no walk-​in shower in our room, just a huge spa bathtub with a hand held spray. I am not a big fan of spa tubs and taking my shower in the middle of a tub was not comfortable.
But, the good things were really great.
Meal time: We found our table next to a window where we we entertained by the fluffy grey squirrels, family of quails, hummingbirds, all busily feeding themselves from the various bird feeders. The squirrels were digging holes, squirreling away walnuts from surrounding trees. The dining room was homey and charming with a fireplace and a toy train running around the tracks near the ceiling.
Breakfast was delightful. help yourself to some really good coffee and homemade biscotti. The hosts brought you your fruit cup with yogurt, cheese, ham and potato puffy soufflé, and the grand finale, a sorbet with a small cookie. Juice choices too.
Wildlife spotted down by the lake — a crane and a heron and lots of mallard ducks. Millions of tiny minnows swimming underneath the private pier for their guests. However the mallards seem to own it mostly. They left their calling cards, so watch where you step.
This B&B is recognized, featured twice in USA Today, once as one of the most unique B&Bs in the USA and secondly as one of the haunted B&Bs in USA. There is one caboose that seems to have a ghostly resident. We did not have that one, so no stories to tell.
Comfort is relative. Make your own decision. There is a lot to love about this place. Oh. Don’t expect your phone to work too well, bad reception around a lot of the lake.
