I’ve been trying out the different restaurants in this mall while I wait for my bus back to Chicago. The Great Steak & Potato Co. is a franchise I haven’t visited since I worked in downtown Chicago about a year ago and I didn’t care for it then. The cheddar cheese steak sounded like it would be delicious with it’s caramelized onions, melted cheddar cheese, etc. so I ended up ordering that. What I got was an embarrassment to Philly steaks. The meat was mediocre as well as the bread and the melted cheddar cheese? It was nacho cheese that they literally got from the nacho cheese machine they have for nachos. I watched in disbelief as the employee held it under the cheese machine. One of the employees even made a joking remark to another when I ordered my food as if they were like«he doesn’t know what he’s in for.» I should have took that as a warning. It wasn’t even made the usual Philly way so there was extra disappointment. They did however prepare the sandwich better than the one in downtown Chicago since it was packed neatly with a Great Steak plastic bag(not a brown paper bag) and didn’t fall apart when I tried to eat it.

Fries are decent. Steak sandwich is expensive and skimpy. Beware of Jesus. The tag line«America’s premier cheesesteak» is a joke. It tastes like culver’s hamburger. Maybe the grill was dirty or something, but it doesn’t excuse the meat portion. Bill was over $ 10 for a regular sandwich fries and drink.
