History

Established in 1994.

Interclub Academy of Dance is located at 7350 N. Milwaukee Ave. in Niles, Illinois,

a near-​north Chicago suburb. The owners and principal instructors are Erwin and Iwona Rybczynski– internationally acclaimed dance competitors, teachers, and performers.

Erwin and Iwona began teaching at Interclub in 1996, but 12 years later they decided to take a huge step forward. They found the current Milwaukee Avenue location and acquired an architect to design the professionally-​equipped dance studio they had always dreamed of. The new Interclub Academy of Dance opened it’s doors in February of 2008. At this location they offer ballroom dance lessons, latin dance lessons, and hip hop dance lessons.

From the large reception area with chairs and comfortable couches, you’ll see two huge flat screen monitors that stream live video from the studio’s ballrooms. This allows parents to watch their children’s progress without interfering.

Business Owner

Iwona started dancing in Poland at the age of 16 at the request of a friend who didn’t want to take dance lessons by herself. After a short time, her friend quit dancing but Iwona fell in love with dance and continued to advance.

After taking a few levels of group classes, she then signed up for competitive dancing (after about a year) with one of Poland’s leading dance teachers.

Erwin grew up dancing just on impulse, and maintains that «he was dancing before he was born». He left home and moved to the city of Sopot, Poland at the age of 14 to find a dance school where he could find what he was seeking.

Erwin joined the famed Fala Studio– one of the top ranked studios where the students were winning– a year before Iwona arrived. During this time they both went to high school yet found time to practice over 7 hours a day.

Soon, Erwin’s partner had to leave the country and he asked Iwona to try out with him. She did and, as they say, the rest is history. That was in 1989.

Erwin choreographed my first dance for wedding in 2008 (Le vie en rose by Louis Armstrong). The dance was extraordinary; elegant, not redundant moves, easy but big impact turns & lifts. His wife, who runs the studio with him, choreographed my girlfriends first dance as well; she was also a happy customer. Now, I have a 5yr old daughter who I will be signing up for dance classes that I’m sure will be a hit. From what I see (have no yet been), they host numerous events that look like a blast.

From a professional dancing duo I would expect professional approach to clients. I was wrong. There was a misunderstanding regarding the date of last hip hop adult second level class. I was informed by a receptionist (who btw tries so hard to be pleasant but deep down, she has a pretentious attitude) that February 20 marks the last day of classes and two weeks later I found out that in fact it was the 27th. I paid the full price for a 10-​week course for my daughter to take advantage of it and unfortunately she wasn’t able to benefit from it. When confronted the front desk person, obviously she denied and blamed me for just not showing up. The following week, I left a message for the owners to contact me and resolve the situation. Followed up few days later just to find out that Iwona got the message, however decided to ignore the matter. My daughter wanted to continue the classes but now since I feel very uncomfortable with their lock of professionalism, I have to look else where. On a side note, I was told they don’t do such thing as reimbursing the clients, but surely they take from them great deal. They came from the polish country side to conduct the business in the states, but behind the fake smiles and welcoming atmosphere hide the true colors. Plus why only four reviews after staying busy since 2004???

I am a serious dancer, and I looked all over Chicago for the best trainers I could find. Erwin and Iwona are my Latin dance coaches, because I believe they are the best, and they are great teachers. They have a very large studio with three separate classrooms, and gorgeous wood floor perfect for dancing, and wall to ceiling mirrors in every room.
I have recommended this place to friends, and I recommend it to whoever is reading this, and interested in dancing.

We took lessons with Iwona to choreograph our first dance — 6 of them over 4 weeks. I am NOT coordinated, but she did a great job of breaking everything down into pieces until we knew everything well enough to put it all together. I was VERY nervous about the first dance, but by the time we finished all the lessons, I was feeling pretty confident, and we nailed it! Even the lift! My husband was very skeptical about the need for dance lessons, but I think even he is happy I talked him into it.

I love this place! The place is owned by a husband/​wife dancing duo. They are phenomenal! They compete professionally across the US. They did a performance at a new years party at a banquet hall in Elk Grove Village 2 yrs ago, I was blown away by them.
Last year I took private dancing lessons for a sisters wedding here, one of their female instructors was nice & pleasant, but we learned a lot of basic steps that aren’t danced by in normal dances.
This year we are with Ervin, the owner, for our first dance. He is absolutely phenomenal. He choreographed our dance to a song we chose. He develops your customised dance based on your skills. If you are good with dancing, he’ll create something breathtaking. If you aren’t comfortable with dancing, he’ll design something that will make you look professional & comfortable, without anyone knowing «you dont dance». Not many can do this. His teaching skills are great, he’s patient and points out tiny details in the way you are doing something, to make it smoother and dance more gracefully.
They also now offer a variety of classes. One I found out about was the «newborn –2yrs old class». It introduces children to music/​dance with their parents. I think this is a great idea to keep the parental bond going.
The décor inside is very nice, modern and new. Highly recommend this academy of dance, for dancing classes group style, and most importantly the private classes.
