Jack Diamond, Vocal and Music Historian

Jack isn’t exactly a music venue, but there doesn’t appear to be a category for what he does. He’s a vocal and music historian, which means that he specializes in biographies in music for healthcare centers, retirement communities, clubs and organizations. And no, he’s not one of the hip kids who can tell you the history of grunge or indy rock. Jack purely loves vocal music, by which I mean the popular music and musical stars of the 20s through about the early 60s, and early opera stars. Folks like Sinatra, Doris Day, and Benjamino Gigli
He’s not a high tech kind of guy either, but he does do an admirable job of conveying the reasons why he loves certain performers with just a CD player and some speakers. He’s immensely knowledgeable about the people he discusses, about their work, their lives, and the reasons why they’re great. His enthusiasm is infectious and he never, ever talks down to his audience.
I met Jack at my parents’ nursing home where he lectured once a month. He’s not internet savvy so I’m his go-​to gal for out-​of-​the way recordings. But friendship aside, I think his lectures are a lot of fun. If you’re in a group or club where there’s an interest in this sort of music, or connected to a retirement community or nursing home, you might want to look into having him come to lecture. I don’t know what his fees are like, but it can’t hurt to ask.
