Jang Choong Dong Karoke

I had been a regular here since 2003. I stopped so regularly about 5 years ago, only going once a while to meet old friends. Today my husband wanted to take his brother there and we went. I’m not sure if it’s because my husband and my Brother in law (BIL) are mexican, or because service is just poor all the time they treated us the way they did.
If you choose to eat there, you will not get your money’s worth. I am currently waiting for my stomach to start hurting and looking for signs of food poisoning in our toddler. I do not even know where to begin with this review. It was such a horrible experience. My husband and his brother ordered meat to be cooked at the table, I ordered a spicy marinated pork that was already cooked.
First thing that went wrong, I ask the waitress if she has hot tea. She mumbles something looking somewhere else and returns empty handed asking if we are ready to order. I asked her do you have hot water and she said she might be heating it then? Then she brings out some old barley tea that tastes like it’ll go bad if it’s sitting out there in the next hour.
After our foods come out, my husband asked if he and my BIL could switch to the unlimited meat option after seeing the poor serving sizes, and she right away said no. She said that we would all have to do an unlimited option but I didn’t want that and my food had already come out.
We try to ignore the situation and try to enjoy our food. When we first arrive the tables are set so that there is only a napkin and chopsticks. No spoons. She takes away the napkin holder. At no point during our meals there is ANY service. None at all. Every time we need something I have to call her over. The restaurant isn’t even busy. But seriously, how the heck do you bring soup and no spoons? No napkins at any point. No water refills.
Where was the service? Talking to another employee. Eating? She doesn’t care for us at all. Then I try to ignore them talking try to enjoy at least my meal. OMG. My spicy marinated pork had these cabbage stems that had mold in it. The first big piece came out and I didn’t want the others to see it so I put it aside. The second piece could not be ignored. Wow. I call her over and tell her that I had molded pieces of cabbage in my dish. She takes it away and then never returns. She goes back to her table to sit and enjoy her meal.
I am so mad at that point I ask her for a check and a napkin. A damn napkin. She then remembers to bring back the entire napkin holder and puts that in my hand. And the check. The check that is very clear that there is an almost $ 10 charge that doesn’t belong there. This charge is under «Gratuity». Does the woman tell us that she graciously added her own tip in there? Nope.
I stand up and walk to the counter. Another woman gets my check. I ask her what that charge is because at the bottom of the receipt, I see a «15% gratuity=… 18% gratuity=… 20% gratuity=» portion and that amount is now calculated with the original total and tax and gratuity amount included within the new gratuity calculations. W. T. F. I ask the woman at the counter, what is «gratuity» that is already in the charge and she takes a while. Stares at it. Then remembers and says «oh, she must have already included the tip in your check!» No shit. Really. Then I ask her am I supposed to have ignored that charge and have paid her the calculated amounts at the bottom of the receipt as well? She says no. She says that I am already tipping the woman and that I don’t have to again. Then I tell her that the charge is for 17% and that I don’t think the woman deserves a 17%. She looks at me and says all meat sales are generally 17% in tip and asks how much more could the service have been better. Are you joking me? I cooked the meat even though that was the sole reason why I did NOT order the meat. That woman never showed up to even look like she was caring for our meat. The pan was burning since she hadn’t come by to check on the fire, and I got burned trying to turn off the damn fire.
Wow. My husband and I used to enjoy there going for occasional dates when we first began dating seven years ago. We had good memories there. We will keep those memories and we thank the restaurant for them, but you will never have our business ever again.

So my friend and I decided to try this karaōke place. They have the list of alcohol drinks on their menu so I decided why not get a bottle of Jameson. At first the guy said they don’t sell by bottle so I showed him menu. He seemed like he doesn’t have a clue about their alcohol prices or how to even serve it. I asked how much is a bottle of Jameson and he said $ 100. Lol $ 100 for a bottle of Jameson. So I asked him how much if he serves it by glass, he said they don’t serve it by glass but only by shots. Lol So we just decided to enjoy the night anyway with some decent karaōke songs.

My first Korean karaōke spot (noraebang), so there is definitely some sentimental meaning to this place. They have private rooms where you can sing (or bellow or scream) your heart/​lungs out amongst the company of your besties. The hallway is trippy and colorful, which really gets interesting if you have had quite a night. The service is great, and I lost a flip flop here. If anyone has seen a size ¹⁰⁄₁₁ black old navy flip flop for the left foot, congratulate yourself and pat yourself on the back.

I love it! If you are tired of shopping or going to movies, this is fun alternative thing to do with your friends. This karaōke is located back of the restaurant. It is a private room where you will search through the music book to find a song to sing. With the remote, you can adjust rhythm, sound, and pitch. The television is pretty big and the room is brightly lit with glow-​in-​the-​dark lights. The cost is 20/​hr. You can also order alcohol or some food inside I believe.
There are two things that prevented me to give this place, and that is the service and song list. First, sometimes korean old ladies who work here are really rude. I understand that sometimes they are just busy but still. Second, I can never find the right songs in here because they are listed by song titles in alphabets. It would be super helpful to list by artists.
Overall, this is a fun place! There’s usually nothing to do in suburb area so try it! And don’t worry, no one in here will care how bad of a singer you are.

I loves me some nohraebang and this is one of my regular late night spots. It’s behind the regular restaurant and has a decent amount of rooms. They are great about answering the bell & bringing drinks, food & whatever else we need right away. Sound is always good and they have a good song selection.

Ok, my second time here was better than my first. It was just that room that we had issues with the sound equipment. This second time, we had a different room and the sound equipment was pretty good.
Not only that, I found recent popular Chinese songs in their book! Awesome! Ok, NOW I’m a fan. ;)

My first noraebang in Chicago! It was an eclectic group of friends (I think we sang songs in 5 languages total) and a birthday party so everyone was on high and happy spirits. Fun times. Up front is a full fledged restaurant that seems to be open through the wee hours and behind are several small private rooms for singing. Be warned though, it helps to bring a Korean friend or someone proficient in Korean to help order songs (the remote controls and such are all in Korean) and ask for help (we had to reboot our system a couple of times).
I didn’t really like the whole astro-​galaxy set up they had with the pictures on the ceilings/​walls and lighting (could’ve easily given anyone a seizure). Sound system and microphone were pretty good and our room came with two tambourines – score! Rooms get really hot and stuffy, though, so either wear less or order lots and lots of cold drinks and periodically fan the room with the door. I dunno why they didn’t have the AC turned up.
None of the music videos were originals so you’ll have to be satisfied with watching random sceneries or hula dancers or whatnot. If you are Taiwanese, like me, don’t go here unless you’re content with singing English songs. I was really disappointed to find out that not only is their collection of Chinese songs super outdated but it’s all in SIMPLIFIED Chinese!
