Dr. Sakas is a gifted veterinarian: caring, compassionate, and yes, brilliant! I would not trust my pets with anyone BUT Dr Sakas and his staff. Dr. Sakas spends time to thoroughly examine, treat, then explain his procedures and plan of care. There is always a follow up call and a treatment plan and he is never «too busy» for his patients, no matter how busy his schedule is. I feel blessed to have found such a caring and competent doctor for my pets!

I highly recommend Niles Animal Hospital. Their staff has made each visit very enjoyable. They are very welcoming and treat us like old friends. We have been bringing our dogs to see Dr. Sakas for the past thirty years. We feel that he cares for our dogs as he would his own dogs. He takes his time to explain any treatment our pets need. I am so thankful that we found Dr. Sakas when we moved into the area. He is truly a gem! You will not be disappointed if you make him your pets vet. I wouldn’t think of taking my dogs to any other place.

If you own ANY kind of feathered friend, this is the place to go. I use Dr. Sakas for my cockatoo who is 37 years old now & to say that he is brilliant is not overstated. I drive 2 hours to take my bird there & hands down, he is the best avian vet. The staff is also very friendly & helpful. He is friendly, honest & fairly priced. I’m sure the rest of the vets there are just as wonderful.

I woouldn’t trust our pets anywhere else but in Dr Sakas’s caring and compassionate hands. He is the most thorough, kind-​hearted and honest veterinarian I have ever met. And I’ve known more than my fair share of vets and animal hospitals having worked at several during my entire high school and most of my college years. Really the most wonderful place to bring your pet for any reason. And of course all my birds are seen only by Dr Sakas — and now our new puppy. So glad we have Niles animal hospital within driving distance of our home! HIGHLY Recommended if you’re thinking of a vet :)

I have been taking my feathered babies to Dr. Sakas since 1996 and I have never been disappointed. That is quite a track record. Dr. Sakas is highly skilled and I trust him implicitly with my (babies) birds. In addition, he is an amazing person. He is full of compassion and the Chicago area is lucky that he planted his two feet here. He is quite frankly, the best vet on the planet. Personal opinion based upon over 2 decades of service.

We’ve been going to Niles Animal Hospital for 18 years. Dr. Sakas is am outstanding avian vet. Also, our dog had surgery there recently & I felt she was in great hands. The tech’s are awesome & Deborah is great w/​birds.

Dr. Staunton is the best and so are the techs. I have been going there with our bunny, Fun, for 8 years and they have been wonderful. Not only is Dr. Staunton knowledgeable, he talks to you in the most caring way and explains things so you understand. And now we are going through tough times with Fun, I can also share they have extremely kind and compassionate.

so i been seeing dr, abette i believe is how you spell it (sorry if i am wrong), and i must say i am extremely impressed. she is very peaceful and kind to the animals that she see’s and i can feel the compassion and dedication she has to her job while analyzing my fur baby. yes my dog is very skittish (as am i with doctors) but because she deals with bad behaved animals she is able to calm my baby down when nervous and gives him treats. She is very thorough with the examination including all the vet techs there. i would go there if you want the best doctors for your fur babies :).

We’ve been seeing Dr Staunton recently and his attention and care has made a huge difference with my dogs health. I have a 3 year old Boston who has suffered from allergies for a long time. We have spent thousands of dollars at derms and vets on allergy testing and the same tests over and over and no results. Finally when I saw Dr Staunton he didn’t waste time (or$$) with tests she’s had done before. He knew exactly what she needed and put her on a medication that has been working great so far.
We just has a check up recently to do some blood work to make sure the medication is safe for her and everything is fine. They even took care of an ear infection she had. They do accept care credit but I didn’t find the visits nearly as expensive as other vets I’ve been too. The staff has also been very friendly.

I want to personally thank the staff of Niles Animal Hospital for take such great care of all my pets through the years but especially last Saturday when I had to say goodbye to my dog of 12 years, Willie. Everyone took great care of Willie and were very supportive during a rough time for all of us. It’s not easy for us to say to go bye to our pets, but it’s not easy for the veterinarians and techs to do their part either. Dr. Abete, Dr Kalivoda, and Nel were there for us. It felt like we were surrounded by family. The paw print gift has been baked, painted and now a treasured memory of Willie, nice touch! If you want to take you pets to a staff that cares for your pets as much as you do, this is the right place. Love you guys

My family is heartbroken. We have been bringing all of our pets to this office for several years and have spent a small fortune there because we believed they provided care that was worth the high price. We still have the utmost respect for Dr. Kalivoda, who is highly competent and a true professional. She saved our rabbit’s life last year, for which we are forever grateful. However, today their least experienced doctor, Jamie Abeta was not only unprofessional in her treatment and behavior of our sick rabbit, but after my fiancé told her that she didn’t care for the way the dr was behaving, she was refused service and sent away without care. Our rabbit had a sever GI block and smelled pretty bad because of it. When Abeta began to examine the rabbit, she pretended to vomit, making fun of our furry family member who was in a dire medical situation. That was not the behavior of a medical professional, but of a student in her first biology class in grade school. My fiancé was already beyond distraught and this was the last thing anybody, much less the so called medical professional who was tasked with saving our beloved pet, should have done. My fiancé called her out on this childish and amateur behavior, at which point Abeta claimed she was holding back a sneeze. While there may be two sides to this story, the real issue is that another doctor came into the room, handed to rabbit back to my fiancé, and told her to that they were refusing to treat the sick rabbit. What vet in the world would refuse care to a sick animal over a slight personal difference. Nobody at the clinic would speak a further word to my fiancé and nobody cared if our sick rabbit lived or died. That is inexcusable. They were perfectly willing to let our pet die over the hurt feelings of the doctor who started the whole issue by behaving immaturely in the first place. I eventually spoke to the owner of the clinic, Dr Sakas, who has a been fine to work with in the past. I asked what had really happened and how this could be remedied. He took a hard line defense of Abeta, blamed everything on my fiancé, and offered no apology, even though we had been long time, regular customers. But the real crime here is that none of the vets cared if our rabbit lived or died. A true professional business owner would have admitted that he wasn’t there, didn’t know what really happened, and made some attempt to remedy the situation. A real healer and caring human being would have treated our pet and worried about the disagreement afterwards. Dr Sakas, you have lost very good customers through your actions. It’s important that people know that you and members of your staff don’t actually care if people’s pets live or die, as long as your delicate sensibilities are not offended. You should all be ashamed of yourselves. Not only will we never return to your establishment, but we will advise the many of friends and family that we referred to you in the past to discontinue seeking treatment at your facility. This medical office does not care about you or the health of your pet. Shame on all of you. Thankfully we rushed our rabbit to another clinic and he was treated and is resting. However, there is a very good chance my rabbit may die today because this heartless office turned him away over a minuscule dispute between a distraught pet’s mother and a novice veterinarian.

Words cannot express how thankful I am for this vet’s office and the service they have provided for me and my chinchilla. Very long story short, my chinchilla had a gruesome leg I jury (she degloved it somehow) and I had to rush her to Midwest Bird and Exotic in Elmwood Park. My initial visit there was exceptional, the vet was kind, gracious, sympathetic, and understanding. Upon a couple of follow ups I was forced to have another vet in the clinic do the follow up and that’s where my problems began. She wanted to do a 2^nd surgery on my chinchilla and was rude and pushy. I decided to get a 2^nd opinion Niles Animal Hospital and upon the severity of my chilla’s condition, they got me in the very next morning. That first day, Dr. Kalivoda (I apologize if that’s misspelled!) examined my little girl and gave me the happy news that she did not in fact need another surgery. She said by the looks of the record from Midwest, she expected the chilla’s injury to be far worse than it was. She was honest about the lengthy healing process, but assured me that she had seen wounds of this nature heal completely. My initial visit there was a whopping $ 70 balance (compared to paying $ 70 FOLLOWUP visits at the previous clinic) and each time after got even cheaper ($ 26.50 per visit). She was receiving laser treatment, a saline cleansing, and a new arm bandage every other day and now she’s down to only weekly checkups. Dr. Kalivoda has been nothing short of amazing. The simple fact that I didn’t have to put the little girl through another surgery and I had alternative methods has made me fall in love with this place. On top of that, all of the staff has always been so incredibly friendly and helpful through everything. They make coming to see them 15 – 20 times as enjoyable as can be. Dr. Kalivoda, you are Emily’s hero!

Dr. Sakas is one of the best vets I have ever taken my dogs to. I took my puppy to Dr. Sakas when a few of vets were unsure of what was wrong with my puppy. Dr. Sakas and his partners were relentless in figuring out what was wrong with him. He was diagnosed with hemophilia which is incurable, but we still tried homeopathic medicines as well as alternative treatments and did not give up with the puppy. I am so thankful to have found a vet that truly cares about the well being of the animals that he treats. I take my two beagles to him to this day and I refuse to go anywhere else with my dogs. I recommend the same to everyone else!

Dr. Sakas performed very complicated surgery on our 16-​year-​old cockatiel, and we could not have asked for a more skilled, dedicated and kind doctor. The staff is professional and compassionate.

Dr. Sakas is one of the best avian vets in the area. I found Dr. Sakas when I rescued a very sick, young bird and he did everything he could to get him well. I was very distraut and skeptical about the prognosis but he reassured me he would be fine and sure enough the bird pulled through and now 8 years later is a happy, healthy part of our family. Dr. Sakas has the compassion and knowledge that anyone looking for a vet should want for the beloved pets. The staff is great as well!

UDr. Peter Sakas of Niles Animal Hospital is a money-​hungry coward who almost killed my beloved dog Mallie. He prescribed Metacam, forgetting he had previously prescribed Rimadyl. Combining the two is the equivalent of ingesting ARSENIC. For weeks, she was in excruciating pain.
Dr. Staunton is a horrible surgeon. The incision was jagged, bumpy, with pus and blood coming out from the uneven stitches. On top of that, he left about 30% of the benign tumor in there so naturally it grew back in a few months. Also, a shout out to Melissa, the vet tech from Hell. While shaving Mallie for a surgery that I later learned she didn’t even need, she razor burned her so severely her hair never grew back. The place is crawling with incompetent people. My biggest regret in life was taking my precious Mallie to Niles Animal Hospital.

Best vet I have been too with my dog, doctors are very knowledgeable and friendly. Also is a judgement free office from what I have seen and want you provide the best care for the least amount of money and will offer several options
