History

Established in 2007.

The casino was known previously as Tri-​State Racetrack and Gaming Center before the addition of table games, and Tri-​State Casino and Resort until the name was changed to reflect its Mardi Gras theme in July 2010.

Business Owner

Daniel K. Adkins is Vice-​President and Chief Operating Officer for Hartman and Tyner, Inc. who own the Nitro West Virginia gambling establishment Mardi Gras Casino & Resort, as well as Mardi Gras Casino in Hallandale Beach Florida and Hazel Park Harness Raceway in southern Michigan. In Florida, he successfully spearheaded the campaign to bring legal casino gambling to Broward County’s four pari-​mutuel facilities. Most recently, this set the stage for the state to negotiate a revenue sharing agreement with the Seminole Tribe. For the past 22 years, Mr. Adkins has successfully managed Hartman and Tyner’s racing interests in Michigan, Minnesota, Florida and West Virginia. Additionally, he oversees the real estate management and development division of Hartman and Tyner, Inc. His contribution to West Virginia gambling includes his successfully steering of legislation to allow slot machines at pari-​mutuel facilities.

Fortunately for the owners of this race track they have the market cornered since they are the only dog track (that I know of) in the tri-​state area. They have really done a lot to bring in different types of games and entertainment to the area but you still get the sense that they aren’t really providing many jobs but mostly just draining paychecks… Ok, enough of the political rant.
The staff is always very friendly and I I haven’t eaten out here so it’s hard to comment on that score. If you have ever been to a dog track before it’s pretty fun to go with a group of friends and have some drinks and place some cheap bets on the pups to watch them run around the track chasing «sparky» the rabbit. However, if you end up here by yourself it’s usually one of those moments where you start to reevaluate the decisions you’ve made in your life.
If you’ve never been, I’d say check it out. If you want to go with some friends and have a good time this may be the spot to hit but if your on your own for the evening or night it can feel a little odd to be hanging out at a dog track.

Yay Dog Racing! During my trip to West Virgina visiting my buddy Chris, he took me here… While a large portion of the dog racing area was under construction of some sort… there was still an extremely large (and sparsely populated) area to watch the dogs race (and simulcast ponies!) which was nice. I was also a fan of how they have a restaurant on the other side, where you can still watch the races and place bets. Sweet.
Additionally, they have a full bar in the casino area, slots in said casino area (sadly, no table games), and a pretty huge sports book area which was also pretty nice…
All and all, it was a fun afternoon, although I did lose a bunch of money, cause when it comes down to it, I know jack about dog racing and was basically picking numbers out of my ass :)
