Gangnam Sauna

So, I don’t know what the issue is with the bad reviews, now trust, they did get me a little weary about going here but I did my research.
This place, this little place, and that’s a good thing… I had no issues what so ever with this place, I’ve been to JeJu Sauna more than once and now that I’ve been to Gangnam, JeJu is very over rated… this place is small enough for you to get what you need without the Crowd, plus u get the same stuff JeJu offers minus the saltwater pool no one uses. The Men’s Side was a ghost town aside from the workers, when I tell you it was just me, it was just Me, it was very clean, and this was 7pm on a Saturday Night. The Facility was small, and self serving, I don’t get the expectations of some people when it comes to certain places… prolly expect folk to lay down petals as they walk (tuh!)
Yea most the staff doesn’t speak English, yea, its not as popular as JeJu, and yea some things could b tweaked, like the Steam room is Hot as Hell… lol but heck I still felt great when I left the place, the towels are tiny, I think that’s a going trend, but think ahead when you go to these places! Come on people who write bad reviews about everything… I will come here way before I got to JeJu and their crowds anyday, I didn’t hit the Meditation rooms yet, but I will b sure to so when I go back… Great Job Guys

This spa has lots of potential. However, the men’s locker rooms are filthy. The bathroom smells worse than a teens sports socks after last weeks football practice, there is mildew and mold in the men’s steam room (nice to breath as you sit there). The floor in the steam room is tile but has brown slime on it. The whole locker room really needed attention. Also, they have the side door open and expect you to walk around naked. They smoke out there so the smell comes into the locker area.

This was a Unilocal find and I am grateful to stumble on it. Definitely a little out of the way but worth it. The hot and cold baths are good and conveniently next to each other. Salt room also good. The real draw is Mrs. Kang. I cannot say enough great things about her – she is perhaps my favorite masseuse ever! It is worth the trip for her magic, she has fixed what ails me several times now.

I was really interested in going to a Korean spa but was nervous about having to strip down in from of so many people. After finally getting the courage up I decided to randomly go on my birthday. I’m glad I did.
Upon arrival, I paid my $ 20 admission fee and for my services (Body Scrub, Massage and Mask — $ 70). I was given a short set and headed to the women’s locker room.
Once in I changed in to the short set and began to explore the various saunas. Once I got bored of it I was ready for my massage which was the main reason I came.
I was confused about where to go so I went back to the front to ask that receptionist who was very accommodating and showed me where to put my # on the whiteboard for the service and that I need to steam for about 10mins to soften up my skin. I was grateful b/​c I was the only African American in area with about 8 other Asian women. Who surprisingly did not care less about me being there lol.
I sat in the steam sauna and nearly passed out due to the temperature (I kid, but it was hot, yet relaxing). After I was nice a sweaty. I sat out in front of the area where the massages and body scrubs took place to wait my turn.
A nice older Korean lady came and got me and Behan the process. I laid on a plastic table and she poured warm water on me, placed some oil on my body and went to town. She got every inch of being and as I turned over I noticed all of my dead skin laying on the table with me. She scrubbed my body wonderfully. If you have sensitive skin this in not for you. Once she finished the scrub she soaped me up and told me to go shower. I came back for my massage and mask. The massage was intense. Talk about deep tissue. She worked out all of my tense areas. The mask was soothing. I smelled cucumber immediately and was pleasantly surprised.
Once she was done I showered again and went to sit in a few more saunas. I had to catch myself b/​c I was close to falling a sleep. Which is perfectly normal for a place like this.
I put my closed back on and it seemed like 3 or 4 Korean women asked me how I enjoyed everything and I could say was it was great. I so grateful for all the friendly women. They put me at ease.
Overall, my experience was a great one. This place is on the small side compared to Jeju,(which I’ve never been) however that is what attracted me. It was a more intimate setting which I great for a first timer in my opinion. I will definitely be back to try the hip bath and for another massage and body scrub!

As a Korean who enjoys sauna often, Gangnam sauna was a little disappointing. After reading all the Unilocal reviews, I decided to visit Gangnam Sauna instead of the Jeju, but wish I went to Jeju. It is partly true that the place is small, relaxing but they only have 1 hot tub, and 1 cold tub. The hot tub was so dirty that there were foams floating around, and I was there for 12hours and saw nobody entering it. The worker turned on fresh water but I didn’t see them cleaning it. I entered it believing that it is just a foam and now I have skin rashes all over my body. I am not sure if it resulted from the water but I am suspicious of it. Unlike other saunas, they did not sell any food around the steam room areas, no utilities. I saw that they only scrub you for the $ 40 scrub (other places usually include 5−10min massage), I decided to get $ 70, massage+scrub. It said 60minute but she worked with me for about 75−80minute. Without that, I would probably give lower rating, but she was very friendly and not bad massage as well.
Probably will try Jeju Sauna next time but if you want to shower and save money on hotel, this may be a good place for some travelers!

Although I couldn’t stay long, I had a great time at Gangnam. I am definitely a fan of Korean spas and was excited to try one in Georgia. The layout is a little weird but the services definitely make up for that. I tried all of the rooms and loved the Salt room. I will definitely stay overnight next time!

I go to Korean spa any chance I get when Im in Atlanta since there isn’t one that I know of in Michigan. I will say that Jeju is bigger, better, and greater but Sujung is a perfect place for me and I prefer it.
They have women’s and men’s side like all Korean spas and they also have a common area for food, hot rooms and for relaxing (men and women to join).
If you know anything about Korean spas then you know it’s all about the body scrub. Even celebrities like Eva Mendez talked about how much she loves this on Conan O’Brien. Well I had my best body scrub at Sujung. The scrubber was very good at getting all my dirt off of muslin and he gave a great short massage with it also. This 45 min treatment is $ 40 and I tipped $ 10. There are other treatments where it’s a scrub and full massage but I never get those.
It will cost you around $ 20 just to use the spa. I think it’s worth it since they have a steam room, dry sauna, hot room, a cold tub and hot tub. The locker room has a TV and comfy lounge chairs to lounge in.
I recommend this place for anyone who go to spas a lot since it’s cheaper then Jeju and less crowded. However, I would recommend Jeju for newbies to Korean spa since it’s bigger and has more amenities.

No surprise, in my head I’m comparing this to Jeju. So let’s see how it stacks up.
It’s slightly cheaper, $ 20 for 24 hours versus Jeju’s $ 25. The inside is very clean and neat, although not as fancy; the common areas have wooden floors rather than stone.
Inside the bathroom, there’s a hot bath which is pretty hot, and a lukecold bath which is actually very pleasant once you get in. There’s also a circular thing which I thought was a foot bath, but one of the staff turned up out of nowhere to tell me in broken English not to do that; he didn’t tell me what it IS for, so I’m a bit puzzled. The saunas in the bathrooms are also a bit more moderate than Jeju, which I like.
Inside the changing area, there’s a salt sauna which has a «floor» of just big salt crystals covered by a cloth. The common areas have 2 more types of saunas, red clay and ice, but they’re not shared; men and women have individual ones even though they’re in the «common» area. The red clay room has interesting pits full of unpolished marbles – I assume they’re made of red clay – which you can lay down on. The «ice» room is only barely cool, and also has a few pieces of workout equipment in there, which is weird because it’s extremely dark (and there was someone sleeping in there when we went).
The biggest disappointment is that their kitchen is completely disassembled. The only food they offer is some cup noodles and a few other packaged snacks and drinks. That really limits how long you can stay; we cut our visit short because we were expecting to be able to get a decent dinner and couldn’t.
On the plus side, it was EMPTY, which I enjoyed. My friend and I went on a rainy Thursday night, and we had the run of the place except for 1 guy who entered just as we were leaving. I don’t mind being around other patrons, but I enjoyed the relative solitude. I also liked the changing room more; it’s very spacious and open, with large plush (but firm) recliners in the middle, and I find the wood flooring to be more inviting than tile.
Overall, I’m torn between here and Jeju. $ 5 cheaper is nice, but unless you’re satisfied with just soaking and resting in the baths and saunas, the lack of other amenities will probably make it feel like you’re not getting your money’s worth.

I am really not a fan of Gangnam Sauna. And, to be completely honest, this place really creeped me out. I was hoping for more of a co-​ed and social environment, like at the other sauna in town that is much larger, but Gangnam is very limited in size and layout.
The ajummas working at Gangnam are also very old and can barely hear. So both English and Korean are both limited when asking questions. To say the least, I had a very difficult time and it lead to an uncomfortable experience for my party. And, there were many questions that I had regarding services, etc, because signs are not clearly posted.
The layout was not to my liking either. The restaurant is totally separate with a separate entrance, the same for the salon— so you have to walk past the entrance at the front to go to either. The only common area is very dark and there is limited talking, it is odd.
For some, Gangnam might be a better choice, like if you are seeking solitude and a very quiet environment. For me, definitely not worth the price.

With a name like Gangnam, I thought this place would be fancier since Gangnam is an affluent district in Seoul. Maybe they’re just trying to cash in with the already old, Gangnam Style video.
Another thing about Gangnam Sauna is that it’s infamous for the murder suicide incident. Of course, it was from the previous owners, and hopefully, they can wash away the dark past. I guess some people won’t like going into a place where 5 people were shot and killed.
If you been to Jeju Sauna, Gangnam Sauna looks similar. Except everything is smaller. They only have 2 baths: hot and cold. The good thing about them is that they are not too hot or too cold. They also have 1 wet sauna and 1 dry sauna. The shower area is smaller and the bathrooms look smaller.
In the co-​ed area, they only had 2 types of sauna. They had the cold room, which wasn’t really cold. It doubled as their workout room because they had some exercise equipment there.
They had the Quantum Energy room. I loved the Quantum Energy room. They have these boxes full of small, hard beads (the quantum particles). They looked like huge, human litter boxes. They were so comfortable to lay in and roll around in. I was purring like crazy.
In the non-​co-​ed section, they had the salt room which felt nice. You can really smell the salt in the air. But the winner is definitely the Quantum Energy Room. I would come here just for that.
The price is about $ 20 for 24 hours. I’m not sure if it’s a good deal or not because they are smaller. But with it’s sordid history and not being as well known yet, I didn’t see too many people there. That was nice since I had the whole shower and sauna areas to myself. Then again, I went on a weekday. Maybe this place gets busier on the weekends. If this place gets crowded, it’s gonna suck because of the small space.

I am reluctant to write a review for fear that my new favorite place for pampering will become as popular, overbearing and presumptuous as their competitor in Duluth. But. I want them to have a successful business. Yes, there was a language barrier, but this is overcome by quality customer service and a pleasant demeanor. I spent a meditative 15 minutes in the Clay Sauna, followed by a shower, steam (caution — the steam room is not for the weak!) and ended with the Organic Wellbeing & Healing special. Awesome!!! This will definitely be my monthly (weekly??) «go to» destination.

I took my ladies here for a small Bridal shower, and it was AMAZING.
I actually accidentally happened upon this place, because Qi Clay Sauna nearby was doing some repairs, so they recommended this location. Upon entering, it was incredibly beautiful and newly renovated. The receptionist + owners were super friendly (even with a little language barrier). They were really kind and allowed us to set up a small table for some gifts/​goodies for the bride to be. I went ahead and purchased a bulk of gift certificates so they were expecting us when we went on Sunday. It was very quiet on Sunday, as I imagine most Koreans probably attend church… we liked that there weren’t too many other customers in the morning!
My group all grew up in the USA, despite being Asian, so we were kind of wary about the spa experience where they don’t allow you to wear clothes, but we actually got over it pretty quick considering all of the other customers just acted normal about it. It was fun having one of the staff almost rip away my towel and gesture that I should wrap my head with it instead, haha.
The spa provides (small) towels, and any sort of toiletries you would need! shampoo/​soap/​conditioner/​toothbrushes/​hair gel and the like. Even Q tips, luxurious! Lol. They give you a set of lounging clothing too, which turned out to be extremely comfortable.
4 of us opted for the body scrub, and bride to be & one friend got the extra massage option. They SCRUB HARD! But you feel sooooo clean afterwards its amazing. Your skin gets incredibly soft and you basically glow afterwards. The hot & cold tubs were pretty intense… we couldn’t really handle the steam room but it was still fun to try out. We actually tried out the additional rooms on the outside, but I recommend going before you do the spa stuff… we went into the clay room with beds of small clay balls (pretty fun and relaxing), but realized we were covered in clay powder and had to shower again… one of my ladies actually fell asleep in the jade room afterwards, it was so relaxing!
We had lunch in the restaurant, which was convenient, but kind of sub par food in all honesty. It’s a nice option though, and the prices are reasonable. Manduguk, ramen, bulgogi, tonkatsu, and a tofu soup… not bad, lots of banchan, but the silverware was a little grungy. The restaurant owner didn’t speak a lick of English, so it was almost like being in a foreign country!
I would most definitely come back here again, especially since I still have some more gift certificates! It is REALLY REALLY relaxing, and I recommend making it a whole day event to wind down and get some pampering done.

I finally went to this place after weeks of driving by it. I love it & will def go again. To indulge in this Quantum moment every once in a while is a must. It’s Asian owned (by friendly Koreans & Chinese — so don’t except the English to be the dominating conversational language there). The whole experience was nice. I walked in, paid and was given a key with a locker # & a sauna outfit. I found my locker #, took a quick slightly cold shower (since I am going into a sauna=hot) then changed into my uniform.
I went into the clay sauna room (which had no clay?) but it was nice since it was the Quantum Energy Room. You just go in & soak your body (or feet) in the energy heated balls. (This was one of my must try rooms!) My energy in there was in waves. (Here’s more on QE:
). I stayed in about 10 minutes, went to the Salt Room next, which was nice but really hot. It was hot. lol I then went to get a body scrub. Nice! Must get. She scrubbed me then oiled my body up with this fragrance oil that was like VS Heavenly. I got a slight pressure rub and afterwards I went to lay in the jade room. I finished with going to the Ice Sauna which also was the workout area?
It felt good and icey cold in there. Great way to end the day @ the Sauna. I’ll def be back for my healing massage & mask!
