Fabulous Timely service! Best eye exam I have ever had. The Doctor is very knowledgable and detailed

I switched from another place and this was the best experience I’ve had in 15 years of going to optometrists for glasses and contacts. Dr. Lee was very friendly and extremely knowledgeable and professional. The rest of the staff was also great and very attentive. My wife and I were very pleased and if this experience is repeated in the future, we will likely be lifelong customers.

The optometrist and the team are knowledgable, happy, friendly and professional. I do not mess around with my eyes and therefore I go to a regular optometrist. I am not sure if they are the cheapest, but they are reasonable in their price. I like their location at Harlem Irving Plaza, just over on the left when you are facing the McDonalds.
They have good Chicago values and I would recommend them.

Rude employees. I asked them to split a payment. They groaned and gave me dirty looks. I asked them for a certain type of contact lenses, they recommended a different more expensive brand. The contacts arrived and they are nowhere near as good as the ones I wanted in the first place.
Horrible service. I will never come here again.

So it says it’s open today, yet we show up at noon and it’s closed. This is the second time this has happened. Extremely disappointed and never returning.

Horrible service… Took my mother there for 2 pairs of glasses. She needed dark and clear lenses. We provided the frame for the dark and bought a pair for the clear. We recieved a call about the clear lenses first. My mother went and tried them on and felt the lenses were blurry. She was asked to go home and give them a chance. She returned 2 days later to inform them the glasses were not a good fit for her eyes. They Doctor ran the glasses and relalized she was given the wrong prescription. Took them back and stated he would call her when they were ready. Fast forward one week we get a call her glasses were ready. We come and both lenese were given to her. The dark were fine however the clear lenses seemed like the same pair as before. The older gentleman seemed annoyed that she kept complaining about the same issue. He told her she wasn’t even giving them a chance and she needed to take them home and try them out. My mother has a very large prescription and she assured him they were the same pair. He stated she was difficult to work with and said if she didnt like them she could return in 2 – 3 days. That weekend we recieve a call from the center stating it was a mistake and she was given the wrong glasses AGAIN. They stated she should have only picked up her dark lenses and her clear were still being worked on. At this point I ask for a refund. I went back to the center, had a huge discussion with the owner and practically had to threaten to sue for them to give me my money back. Today I check my card and wouldnt you know that instead of a refund I GOT CHARGED AGAIN!!! I am calling and no one answers. This place is a joke. BE CAREFUL, save your money and just go somewhere else!!!

If I could give them a zero or even a negative, I would. I had a contact lens exam on October 1. That night, Dr. Sterczek recommended Acuvue contacts but did not have trials in stock; instead, he gave me CIBA Dailies to try out for the new rx and wear while waiting for the Acuvue trials to come in. When the Acuvue trials came in, I went to the office to pick them up and told him that I really liked the CIBAs because they were comfortable and very clear. At the time, I also asked Tom and Diana together to call me when possible for the prices since I’m running low on my current contacts and want to order new contacts ASAP. They called me twice this week during the work day (which I made clear I couldn’t speak to them until after 6 PM), so I was first able to return their calls today, October 11. I spoke to Diane who had called me the one time, and she didn’t even know what she had called me about. She had left a general message that she was from Star Vision and couldn’t even tell me what the phone call was regarding; I then told her I assumed it was for pricing since I asked about that the last time I was in. She asked me for which contacts, so I told her that I was more comfortable in the CIBAs than the Acuvue lenses, so she quoted me $ 72 for a 90-​pack plus 20 free contacts with every 90 pack that I order. Since she gave me the price, I asked for the prescription and to pick it up tomorrow, 10÷12÷13 and place the order. She said the prescription will be ready for me tomorrow and I can pick it up and order.
A few hours later, Dr. Sterczek called to inform me that he can no longer service me and that I need to find another doctor. I asked why, and he stated that I seem to be more concerned about the price of the contacts as opposed to their fit. I asked how he could refuse to service me simply because I wanted to know how much my contacts would cost. Like any person, I am struggling and want to shop around for the best price on my contacts. He became very irate when I asked for him to explain how he could refuse to service me and began screaming at the top of his lungs. I am 27 years old and have never heard anyone scream as loud as he did. He was screaming that by asking for the prescription that he would be committing malpractice. I asked him to explain how that was possible because I did visit him and have an eye exam. He then yelled that I need to have a final fitting before he could write a prescription and that I should have known that. I pointed out the irony that his employee didn’t even know enough to tell me that I need to come in for a final fitting before writing a prescription (she said the prescription will be ready Saturday, 10÷12÷13) but that he expected me — a layperson who knows nothing about being an eye doctor — to know that I need a final fitting. I told him that nobody in his office ever called me to say I need to come in again, so I thought that we were done and I could just get my prescription to order my contacts. How am I supposed to know that I need to come in for another visit when nobody told me to come in and make an appointment? Keep in mind that he is yelling the entire time. As I was still baffled and startled at how he can refuse to service me, I asked one more time. He continued to yell, saying «What don’t you understand, that is M-​A-​L-​P-​R-​A-​C-​T-​I-​C-​E (very slowly and in a low tone and pitch, as if I had some type of learning disability) and I am not going to put my license on the line for you. I told him that he could have just told me to come in for the fitting instead of all this nonsense; I told him I was very unhappy and appalled by his and his staff members’ incompetence, and he yelled, «DON’T YOU DARE CALL MY STAFF INCOMPETENT!» Clearly his staff is incompetent if they are working for and trained by a man as incompetent as he is.
This guy is not worthy of having those two letters in front of his name. He is inhumane, unprofessional, and completely lacks social skills and customer service. In my 27 years and countless visits to doctors (I have a medical condition that requires me to see a specialist monthly), I have never been disrespected by anyone in the medical field. It is sad to encounter someone who is clearly educated but has no people skills, no morals, and no ethics. He could have simply avoided all of this by calling and saying, «I understand you requested your prescription and are happy with the CIBAS, but we need to complete a final fitting before we proceed. When can we arrange an appointment?» Instead, he called VSP (my insurance), revoked the copay, and then called me to tell me that I need to go elsewhere.
Furthermore, the place is not clean or sanitary. It is a disorganized mess. They didn’t even have anything to cover the forehead and chin area on the equipment, and I had to use a tissue (thank goodness I had some in my purse) so my skin doesn’t touch the equipment. Neither did he clean any of the machines. DO NOT GO!

This place is a lot better than it looks. The doctor is awesome and very informative. He is all about helping the patient. They’re extremely affordable and worked great with my insurance, (vsp). They helped me pick out the best frames for me and I paid exactly what I was quoted. I’m extremely satisfied and I can’t wait to see what they look like after their remodel. But their website needs to be updated and it would be nice if they had a larger selection of frames.

Quick in and out! I know the Doctor loves what he does for a living. Sort of a relief since customer service has almost gone the way of the dinosaur these days.

Very helpful staff here; the first time I called they checked my insurance (VSP.ugh) and told me exactly what would and would not be covered, how much it would cost if I went with the eyeglass or the contact lens exam, etc. And when I got there, what they told me actually ended up being accurate! No «oh wait there are extra fees» funny business that I have found at other retail optometrists. Would definitely go back.

I have been going there since I was 13… I’m 31 now. I have never had the luxury of real vision insurance, and with the «discount Plan» scam I have now, I have not been swayed from my true and tried optometrist. I like that it is an indie and now large chain. They have a good selection of designer and non designer frames and contact lens options. I do recommend an appt since there is only one doctor on site.

We unfortuntely have VSP insurance for our vision insurance. The plan is only accepted by certain Optometrists and their eye boutiques, not major chains such as Pearle Vision, Lens Crafters, etc. I complain because that means I have to pay higher prices for glasses and contacts. We either receive $ 150 off of a pair of glasses and 20% off of the necessary extras such as anti-​reflective coating, thin index lenses, etc or $ 150 towards contacts (equivalent to only 4 boxes against getting 12 online!). I’m as blind as a bat. If I don’t pay for these extras, my glasses seriously would put me on the cast of Revenge of the Nerds. They are thicker than coke bottles!
I’ve been going to the Star Vision Center because they are conveniently located in the Harlem & Irving Place Mall. They are pretty nice and informative, but I highly recommend calling for an appointment.
