World War I Memorial Park and Zoo

This is a great park to go for hikes, walks or for a run even. Has a beautiful park and picnic areas, great trails through the woods. Dogs are welcomed here also. =) Though… just a note, some people really need to bring plastic bags to pick up after them!

Great park and space. Had my daughter’s bday party here and there was plenty to do from feeding the animals to exploring the garden to playing at both playgrounds.

Longest slide ever, separate kids playground with butterfly garden, separate kids sandlot, lost ski area, small zoo… Ideal place for kids to play!
Personally, I love walking down the old t-​bar liftline and up the old ski trails that used to serve local young skiers.

Perfect place to stop on our way to the cape from south hadley ma.

Great place, the playground is big and wonderful, great picnic areas/​sites with picnic tables and a grill. And nice little area with different animals that you can feed. Must buy the feed though but still not over priced, it’s only one quarter for a handful of feed. Cheaper than zoos.

I love this place! It’s definitely a hidden gem in Attleboro… I was really surprised and delighted with the number of animals they had, and the park is a great little area to walk around and spend the day! The only thing is that it’s a little dingy feeling… The fixtures are Kinda run down. But the over all experience is great! It’s an awesome local thing to have right down the street for families (or someone like me who’s bored!)

My favorite place to hang out in the North Attleboro area, period. And it’s precisely because there’s not much to do there except enjoy a little scenery. It’s one of the few (perhaps the only) park in the area with sort of a view.
It’s the best place around here for a puke-​your-​brains-​out run. If the drill sergeant from Full Metal Jacket knew about the ski hill, he’d probably make his sorry, stinkin’ recruits do 4 – 5 trips up and down — timed. Which reminds me: that’s what we’d do for cross-​country practice when I was a teenager (I grew up in Attleboro). For some reason, those are fond memories for me. Anyway, WWI Park is a hill-​workout Valhalla. If that’s the kind of thing you’re into.
Otherwise, it’s a great place for a picnic, to take a walk, or to have stare-​downs with the animals in the petting zoo — if you go during off-​hours. Just don’t go on a «beach day» during the summer. Not tranquil. Early spring or fall is the best.
If nobody was watching, I’d probably be all over the playground. It’s new-​ish, and looks very nice. When we have kids, we’ll definitely take them to it.

I love this park! I’m a little bummed you can’t bring your own carrots any more but it is what it is.

Love this park! Love the butterfly garden and the slides, my kids love to feed the animals and that you can have events there!!! Just miss the seesaw… lol

When I heard that there was a «World War I Memorial» in North Attleboro, I thought that a sunny Sunday morning walk would be just the ticket! We drove over, we entered the gate, we drove… drove…drove… The only hint of a dedication for the War was a small plaque at the entrance which was half-​hidden by ivy. The land dedicated to this space is beautiful (almost enough to forget that Route 1 is so close-​by); a former «bunny slope» for skiing beginners, the hill now has areas carved out for picnicking, playground jungle gyms, a sandy «beach» area, a beautiful garden, and even a small petting zoo.
I found the petting zoo to be relatively depressing. While it was interesting to visit the animals (goats, horses, mules, sheep, pigs, alpaca, and even white tailed deer!), seeing that most could use a bath, some food, and some TLC was pretty disheartening. There weren’t any staff to be seen (…who is charged with the animals’ well-​being? …and how often do these «care takers» swing by?), but plenty of children throwing carrots at then emu (which don’t eat carrots) and the mule (which has a sign reading «do not feed — on strict diet»).
The garden was tranquil and had a wonderful array of flora and fauna. The playground equipment was clearly the favorite by the swells of giggling, squealing children. Walking around the giant loops which connects all of these areas was pleasant, and there are several small, overgrown inlets with grilling pits great for cookout picnics.
This is certainly a great place for families to bring their children and leave them expel all that pint-​sized energy… but for those hoping for a peaceful nature walk, you’re better off hiking elsewhere.

Great park for families. 3 playgrounds & a nice sand area for little ones. The place is HUGE, with beautiful views and a little zoo where you can feed the animals. They even have a huge slide (and i mean BIG) Love this place :)

Update. The park has been taken care of great. Tree’s and brush have been cut and trimmed, and picnic tables replaced or fixed. It looks to be complete by late spring. The park staff has done a great job.

This place is a great place to go! So many places to play for the kids. Also, the slide is a HUGE hit!
The kids LOVE to play around the Zoo. So many animals for the kids to look at and feed. So if we have time in the summer, this is where we’ll go to play.

I can’t believe this park is free! Playgrounds, picnic areas, you can have parties there (That isn’t free.) and to top it off there is a zoo with animals you can feed! The thick woods surround the play ground so the noise level is muffled by the wind blowing through the trees, and the occasional call of a rooster. There is one dingy area with decaying toys, but walk up and around to the one on the hill and the kids will wear themselves out. There are several places to sit by small ponds and relax. I love this place! If you can take the cold weather, there are harly any people there when the temperature drops. Have I mentioned it’s free?

So my main squeeze and I were looking for a place to go for a quick post-​dinner walk — remembering we had driven by this place earlier in the day, we decided to go back later that afternoon.
I’m sad we didn’t come back sooner! Its like a little oasis in the middle of. Attleboro… ha! oxymoron i know but what can i say! lol.
There’s a little zoo area — it felt a little bit sad but maybe because we were the only people there — there was also a fun looking playground. It kinda wanna go back during the day and check it out more.

This place is neat enough and a good option for a free destination if you’re in the area, but don’t expect much more than that. I honestly can’t remember a single thing that’s changed here since I first visited the park when I was very young. I still very occasionally swing by. There is a good selection of animals, but the state of the facility is fairly dirty and nowhere near what you’d see at a zoo that charges an entrance fee. The old ski slope is neat and always grabs my interest since I love skiing. Basically, I’d come here if the weather was nice and I was looking for a free destination or if I had a young child or two to entertain for a few hours. With modest expectations, you won’t likely be disappointed.

I have no idea how this place got 5 stars once, much less twice.
Where is there an actual… ANYthing having to do with WWI? I’m glad I’m not a veteran if this is how we honor them. The animals look really dirty and there was a dead chicken in the pen. I would’ve been traumatized if I had seen this when I was little.
If you want to picnic here, I can see that. I hiked down the abandoned ski lift and that was cool, but it definitely isn’t worth coming back to.

With the coming of the nice weather comes my annual, «Dammit, I’m going to get out and get more exercise!» As luck would have it, I was led to the WWI Memorial Park and Zoo at just the right time to make it come true!
This place is definitely a «hidden gem». I’ve been driving by here for years without knowing the great treat that lay within its gates.
Walking trails, playgrounds, a nature area, picnic tables and a small zoo that almost makes me wish I had kids to bring (almost!). Several different types of birds (including emus), sheep, goats and ponies. Well maintained and cared for too. Bring carrots and apples from home to feed the animals, as there isn’t any feed available to buy.
On our last walk we came across an abandoned ski slope and J-​bar lift that will be excellent for sledding next winter.
Oh, did I mention that it’s free?

I took my niece there thinking they would have a small petting zoo and playground for her, but quickly realized their petting zoo is huge. They have to have at least 50 animals including horses, turtles deer, chickens, pigs, ferrets, donkeys, birds, and peacock just to name a few. You can bring carrot sticks, and apples to feed *most* of the animals. Also, it’s *FREE*
They have a couple playgrounds throughout the park for varying ages which means if you have a small kid with you, he/​she won’t be trampled by the older kids while trying to play, and their playgrounds have a ton of cool things (even a baby rock wall for toddlers).
Additionally, there’s Julia’s Garden which has a flower section that attracts butterflies, and plants that kids can search for. I can’t remember the name of the plant, but I know if you rubbed its leaves it sounded like a squealing pig. In this section of the park, there is a steep, long enclosed slide. To reach the top of the slide, there’s a climbing net and rope wall to use. A lot of fun, but difficult for adults that want to go down the slide with a small child.
Lastly, there are picnic tables everywhere, and from what I saw walking trails. For a small park, there was a lot to do.
