The Palms Salon & Day Spa

Today was my birthday and I treated myself to a mani-​pedi. Mary Ann, the owner, did the mani-​pedi and it was wonderful! Massage of both the feet and hands, with sugar scrub on the feet, plus a massaging chair and a hot-​water whirlpool for the feet! Mary Ann was very professional and delightful to chat with. She had a lot of insights into doing business in North Beach as a fellow small-​business owner. It was a great treat, and I will have to go in and do this more often!

Overall, this was a positive experience. We were looking for a salon to trim our three girls’ hair before the first day of school. We called here on Saturday of the Labor Day weekend to request same-​day appointments. The owner said she was trying to close early in advance of the holiday; however, she said she’d try to work us into her schedule. It took a little longer than three back-​to-​back appointments might take, but she was able to get us done in between waxes for other clients. She was super nice and accommodating. And the final bill was very reasonable.

I called once late last year for an appointment and the owner/​stylist was very nice and professional over the phone. She was equally so in person as well. I was happy with my haircut. She was able to correct the bad layers that I had received someplace else. I have to admit I’ve not been back because my grown-​out hair still looks good from my haircut. I plan on returning for a trim. Great services, and decent prices.

I’ve been so please with my services at this salon. Usually just get a cut and blow dry but everyone is so friendly and easy to talk with. You get somewhat of the «Steel Magnolia’s» kind of feeling when there. Keep up the great work «Palms Staff» it’s infectious!

After checking out another salon in the area and being very disappointed, I was hoping Mary Ann and the Palms would be my saving grace for my wedding. I was right! I was in today for my trial and she is the only person I have come across during my many make up trials who actually listened to what I want. She did an AMAZING job (the make up still looks perfect 3+hours later) and when what I originally wanted didn’t work, she made me look even better than the picture I brought in. As a woman with pretty intense self esteem issues, I have never felt more beautiful. Thank you so much Mary Ann for such a great experience! She was so friendly and as were the other two ladies I met today. I can’t wait to come back for my wedding!

I know there’s not tons of options in this area. But go elsewhere.
My bridesmaids and I originally had appointments here for nails, hair and makeup for my wedding weekend. After a variety of red flags, I’m so glad we ended up going with a different salon for hair and makeup the day of the wedding. We only went there for nails/​blowouts the day before the wedding. The women were SO disorganized. Despite the fact that I was wearing a «bride» shirt and drinking out of a «bride» cup, they could not tell any of us apart and kept referring to each of us as the bride. For awhile they thought the wedding was that day, and they kept trying to give each of us an up-​do. Then they kept asking us questions about what time they needed to be with us the next day for the wedding because they kept thinking we were a different wedding party. They all kept dropping things and were just generally disorganized. What a mess!
As far as the quality of service goes, our nails all ended up looking decent but not fantastic. I’m used to getting a nice relaxing scalp massage along with my blowouts, but no such luck — 2 minute shampoo followed by the roughest treatment I’ve ever had. Surprised I didn’t leave with a headache! Looked nice in the end, though.

I went there for a Brazilian and unfortunately I can’t post a photo of my horrifying situation right now. They were friendly, yes, but if I have to choose between friendly and rip my skin off versus unfriendly and knows what to do, then the choice is obvious. I’m in pain, bleeding, and I get Brazilians every month. I had to get one here as I was visiting the area. One star might even be too much for this nightmare. Don’t go and save your painkillers.

I got my hair done at The Palms for my wedding. After showing the stylist several pictures of what I wanted at my trial, she made several failing attempts and then came up with every reason in the book as to why it wouldn’t work. She assured me that my up-​do would be much better on the day of my wedding. WRONG! I went in with friends and family that were trying to help her understand and she still couldn’t get it. It was such a simple up-​do!!! She was rude and insulting. The owner seems nice, but her employees are not up to par! I would never go back there again!
