Just had a great experience. I knew exactly what I wanted. Didn’t have to wait too long and got right out. You have to go to Sugar Shack prepared. I don’t like anything but their special donuts. The rest are just plain dough with toppings. So, I just get two of whatever the special is and a coffee. I don’t expect good service because I typically don’t get it but, today I did get great service from a young lady with a smile. Perhaps it was because I was prepared.

Over hyped. While unique donuts like bacon maple are good, standards like custard filled are the worst I’ve ever had. I’ll stick with Krispy Kreme and Duncan Donuts. Best local donuts that’s not a chain is still Countryside in Varina.

As a mother you will do anything to bribe your child and this place is usually what I use. Today my daughter was being a pain at swim lessons and I told her if she was good we would get her an m&m doughnut. She instantly did exactly what she was supposed to so we went right after. She told the nice man that she wanted a doughnut with lots of m&m’s instead of just getting one out of the case he went and made her a special one covered in them! It’s little things like that that will keep me coming back. Not to mention the doughnuts are amazing! I moved from Utah and there are some great doughnut places but nothing like sugar shack. They are not too sweet and are the perfect consistency. Thanks sugar shack! We are forever customers!!!

Yum, yum and YUM! These donuts couldn’t be any fresher or tastier. I came in a bit before noon on a Saturday and was greeted by several smiling employees. Since the flavors change constantly during the day the staff are tasked with going through all currently available choices as people walk into the store. Each donut is hand cut, fried and glazed. You can taste the hard work in every bite. The donuts are nice and thick but airy at the same time. The glazes are also very fresh and delicious. After a few minutes of debate we settled on six flavors(not that you could really go wrong here): Tastes like a Samoa, Pumpkin glazed with Graham Cracker, Pumpkin glazed with Chocolate Drizzle, Orange Zest Cake, Sour Patch Kid(with a berry glaze), and Espresso glaze. Let’s just say that we devoured four of the six before leaving the store! Sugar Shack is my go-to donut shop in RVA!

Best donuts on the east coast hands down! The variety and flavors are fantastic and my boys love them almost as much as SweetFrog!

The good: Good doughnuts, more cake-like than fried, and fun combinations of ingredients. Very tasty. The bad: The location is hard to get into and out of from a parking standpoint. Doughnuts are waaay too expensive. Fine for a stop by «special treat» but too expensive for a dozen to take to the office.

I wanted to get my wife and me a treat last night. The parking lot was empty. GREAT!!! They have great doughnuts but when i entered it was like i was in a loud night club. The music in the past has been ignoring, but tolerable right at the order counter. Last night it was blaring. Unless something changes, I guess i have to go to Krispy Kream. What a lost!!!

Sugar Shack only has had«souped up» doughnuts with so much stuff on them that you cannot enjoy the simple flavours of cinnamon, chocolate, etc. Recently they have not carried anything other than these options. Other issues include limited parking, the fact that you cannot purchase a dozen doughnuts which they do have posted, and simply the process you have to endure to buy your doughnuts. I guess this process is how they justify asking for tips. I cannot understand why they will not use a board to identify the doughnut varieties for that day or hour. It is all a bit gimmicky.

I know I’m probably in the minority here, but I thought the doughnuts were just okay. They were good, but not amazing. However, because they offer so many flavors, toppings, fillings, etc, I was all set to return again. And again. And possibly again. The atmosphere inside is nice. It smells great(OBVIOUSLY) and it’s clean. There’s a HUGE blackboard wall behind the counter that holds the menu, limit of doughnuts, pricing, etc. It’s artsy and looks really cool. My understanding is that they offer different doughnuts throughout the day, which I actually like. I prefer to know that the doughnuts that I’m eating are fresh rather than some places who bake a huge batch to make sure they have enough just to have them sit out all day. And I like to try new things, so I really don’t mind. The service, however, could be improved. First of all, I completely understand why there’s a limit on how many doughnuts someone can buy. They’re pretty popular and they want to make sure they don’t run out of doughnuts for everyone. It makes sense. BUT, when you already know it’s our first time there(he asked when we walked in), you really don’t have to give me attitude when I ask for more than the limit amount. Just tell me. I’m a big girl, I can handle it. Also, we went there with our two small kids, and I felt like I was being rushed. It wasn’t busy when we were there. There was only one person behind us, and he also had a small child, so neither of us were in a big hurry. Yet I felt like we weren’t choosing quickly enough for the guy behind the counter. He kept repeating the choices with a snarky attitude that I could have done without. It’s not my fault you have to stand there and tell me what all the flavors are. Which brings me to my next problem. The doughnut counter is SMALL. This wouldn’t be as much of a problem if there were labels for the doughnuts. I mean, it’s not difficult. Just put out a new label when you put out a new flavor. You’re in there switching the doughnuts around anyway, how much longer can it possibly take to just move the labels around too? Instead, you have this impatient hipster who clearly has better things to do with his time standing around repeating doughnut flavors all day and waiting for customers to make a decision. I used to work retail, so I sort of feel bad for the poor guy. Okay, so we’ve finally navigated the doughnut ordering process. When we get to the girl behind the register, my husband saw some sort of pumpkin-something-coffee and decided to order it with our doughnuts, and the girl just sighed. I’m confused. You offer coffee, so are we not supposed to order it? Then a different girl started making the coffee, which took almost 10 minutes. Thankfully, he said it was really good coffee, but 10 minutes? Sorry Sugar Shack, but your doughnuts, while yummy, are not worth your uppity attitude. You make doughnuts, not diamonds. Take it down a notch.

My daughter much prefers sugar shack to duck donuts. And I have to agree Sugar Shack not nearly as greasy. They don’t do the make in front of you thing but have a wide variety(and the super large donuts). Getting to be a popular place so there can be a line.

This place gives off the vibe of something that is definitely a hit trend now, but that will probably not last. - While I enjoyed the donuts from here, there are a couple things that irked me. 1) No seating. There’s a standing counter along the window, but that’s it. 2) Scolded! I asked for a dozen donuts, and was told that I could only buy 6. I was so shocked I asked her to repeat herself. There were a ton of donuts available. Only one guy in line behind me, and he was helped simultaneously. So, I told my nephews we could only buy 6. Then after making our choices(not an easy task for a 9 year old), the girl told us we could get more. This killed me again because the boys already spent a lot of time trying to re-think what they were allowed to get. So we had to do it again, because we did want more. I’m making more of this than it really was — but why limit what I can buy? They are DONUTS, not gold watches. I have money. I want to buy a lot of your product. Period. 3) Inconsistent production. They only make a few types of donuts on a regular basis, otherwise you don’t know what you’ll get until you walk through the door. 4) Coffee was OK. -

Sugar Shack is reliably tasty for doughnuts, and this location does not fail, here. Still placed in a tiny spot with no real parking, it’s not really a place to linger, but that’s rarely an issue, since I find this sort of breakfast is generally grab and go, waiting only long enough for them to box your doughnuts and make your [potentially complicated?] beverage of choice. I will admit to being a bit glad that the location didn’t open until –after– I moved out of the neighborhood it faces, since i am frankly weak in the face of temptation and it would not have been kind to my waistline.

We decided to try this new location Bc we were at chesterfield town center Despite some of the negative reviews. We didn’t have any issue with the staff or wait time. Maybe we just went at a really good time but the employees were very helpful & quick! They were just as good as their other two locations! I’m excited to have one closer to where we usually shop at!

This place is fairly new. I went around Monday evening and it wasn’t as busy at that time, so I was able to take my time on choosing what I wanted. The employee there was helpful and was able to describe all the donuts she had on display and the freshly made one in the back too. There’s a huge selection and my favorite was the salted caramel donut. The bacon is quite popular as well. These donuts are freshly made and yummy! They have a lot of flavors of toppings to choose from compared to other places I been too. The cool part is, if you used your card to pay, it would show on the new tech app touch screen how many times you been there and if you reach the 10 stars. I believe you would get a discount or something. I’ll update everyone on that once I get there.

Everyone is going(do)NUTS about sugar shack and they have every right to be. Sugar shack is one of the coolest spots around here. There are so many delicious flavors of donuts. My favorite definitely being the glazed blueberry cake donut. However you must also try the maple bacon, strawberry and anything with chocolate on it. But if you don’t like those suggestions go with whatever you’re feeling because sugar shack will always satisfy your cravings. When you walk in there aren’t labels, but you don’t need labels, everything is super obvious and if you don’t know what something is you just ask one of the friendly workers who comes up to serve you. They also have a full espresso bar with amazing coffee drinks that match perfectly with a donut. If you need to ring a gift to an out of towner, sugar shack will not let you down! Also, make sure to follow them on Facebook. They have a different way to get free donuts everyday!

This location just opened a couple weeks ago… about a mile from my home. Small parking lot and always a somewhat slow-moving line of a dozen or so people, but very friendly and helpful staff. There are about 8 – 10 metal chairs outside, but otherwise… no seating. As an experiment, I picked up a Krispy Kreme($ 1) glazed donut on Midlothian Turnpike(5 miles away) to compare to the($ 1.20) Sugar Shack glazed donut at this location. As you can see from the photos, the Sugar Shack donut is larger, doughier, chewier and tastier than the smaller, more-processed Krispy Kreme donut. Seeing(and tasting) is believing! Glad to have this new location in the neighborhood, though I’m concerned for my waistline. Due to the small size of the parking lot(15 cars?), it can be tough to park on the weekends.
