History

Established in 1974.

Conway Scenic Railroad is a «heritage railroad,» operating over two historic rail routes. The line from North Conway to Conway was formerly part of the Conway Branch of the Boston and Maine Railroad, and the line from North Conway through Crawford Notch was once part of the Mountain Division of the Maine Central Railroad. Its iconic North Conway station and surrounding outbuildings date back to 1874 and are included in the National Register of Historic Places.

Passenger service ended in 1961, and the last freight train departed in 1972, after which the station remained boarded up and in general disrepair for several years. The Conway Scenic Railroad restored and reopened the beautiful station in 1974 to provide seasonal excursion train service in Mt. Washington Valley.
