The Local Grocer

This place is great! So nice to get some good quality food in a tourist location! We grabbed some food and ate it at the scenic overlook down the road. Everything was healthy, organic and delicious !

We went with my celiac son (5 years old at the time) and ordered a gluten free sandwich. I tried a bite and was blown away by how good his bread tasted, even asked what brand they use so that I might buy some. We realized later, after he started vomiting intractably that he was given a sandwich on regular bread. Aside from fruit and nuts it was the only food he had had all day, and his reaction was the reaction he has typically had on the rare occasions when he has been exposed to large gluten loads. I was crestfallen; we loved this place and were so excited to have a safe option where our whole family could eat. My email to the restaurant to give them feedback was met by a very defensive response from the owner essentially denying any possibility that they may glutened my son and abdicating any responsibility for contaminating any food food with gluten, as it is not a gluten free kitchen. I understand that mistakes can happen, and all I hoped for was an apology and a promise to retrain and redirect the staff on the importance of protecting those with true food allergies. They have a large sign on the door that states GLUTEN FREE. It appears from the other reviews on this site that they have not yet learned to take celiacs seriously. If you are celiac, you are taking a risk by eating here.

The food in the café was great. There were a lot of vegan and gluten free options. I didn’t care for the sweets as I’m not a fan of dark chocolate really, but to each his own. Overall, very nice place and I was impressed with all of the options available.

I stop here after yoga everytime I see my mother in law. I love that they have Raw milk and cultures of everything from cheese to sauerkraut.

Amazing local grocery store with delicious sandwiches and smoothies! We loved our lunch and the maple lemonade was very different and refreshing. I’ve been here before for meat for dinner and we were not disappointed then either!

Loved this place. The smoothies were really good. I enjoyed that all the beauty products were cruelty free.
I have a lot of food allergies so it was great to have food that had no artificial colors and dairy free options. The dairy free cream cheese was delicious.
The staff was super friendly as well!

If you have Celiacs Disease and need GF foods then you are going to love this store and café. If you don’t need GF foods but are looking for healthy and taste options I think you will also be pleased. Definitely a go to destination in North Conway!

Really expensive food that’s very poorly executed. I paid 10 dollars for a salad that was missing two major ingredients served with un edible dressing. It is sad because it’s really the only place in the area with the illusion of having real healthy food. I usually would never trash a place like this, however I’ve just wasted my last dollar in the local grocer this is four out of five very poor very over priced meals I’ve had and will not be returning. I sincerely hope they turn it around because if done right and with some care the concept of their café could be outstanding.

Stopped at the Local Grocer on the way home from a camping trip in Crawford Notch. So grateful to see alternatives to the usual bacon, eggs and tasteless toast. I got the grilled breakfast burrito with tempeh salad, mushrooms, peppers, onions and cashew cheese. To die for! Washed it down with a Local Farmacy juice and I was good to go for the day. So nice to have healthy choices especially in a tourist town like North Conway.

I am a local and usually stop here once a week. In a community chock full of fast food, this is a welcome delight. The seitan wrap is one of my favorite lunches, but they have a nice array of choices. Do stop by if you are seeking fresh, organic and tasty food.

Love this place. The café has a huge menu of breakfast and lunch options. They also offer smoothies, coffee and bakery items. The falafel wrap is my favorite and I have it at least once a week. The store has a large selection of bulk spices and grains. Grocery item prices could be more reasonable which is why I gave a 4 star review rather than 5. However, IMO, the café prices are more than fair.
I do want to comment on the one star reviewer who states his wife was disturbed by store employees talking badly about someone else not knowing she was in a stall. The bathrooms here do not have stalls. The women’s bathroom in the store and upstairs are single toilet bathrooms. I’m not sure which establishment they visited, but if there were stalls in the bathrooms it was not this place.

It was love a first sight! We had lunch here and sampled many choices from the menu and all were excellent! Not to mention how great and informative the staff was! Here’s the list of what we had for lunch:

Went there today for some after hiking sandwiches. We had the turkey pesto melt and the curried chicken salad wrap. I got the melt for me and the chicken salad wrap for the wife. It turns out that she isn’t a fan of curry, a little swapping of sandwiches and we were all set. She said her melt was excellent. I am not a huge fan of curry, but this wrap was very very good. Their ingredients seemed super fresh. Would go back again.

The local grocer keeps growing and getting better and better every time I go there. This is my favorite spot in North Conway to get clean, healthy food. Alot of health food places don’t serve great tasting food but that is not the case here. The food is really tasty and makes you want to come back time and time again. Hannah’s Cornbread is so good as is her Cauliflower Vegetable Dal soup. (Actually it’s the best cornbread I have ever tasted!) The quiches are really great too. And the breads are wonderful. I can always find something here that I really enjoy and the choices are extensive. Friendly staff and great store to shop in —has everything like remedies, vitamins, fresh vegetables, groceries, prepared dishes, raw chocolates, coffees, teas, smoothies and fresh juices… Grateful to see this place humming! And so thankful to have a place here in North Conway that serves fresh, healthy food. Definitely give it a try and you’ll be hooked…:) And your stomach will thank you.:) Love it!
Update:been going year everyday this week. I think i love everything here. The people who work here are super helpful and friendly. Try chai tea, vegan tofu salad roll up, any soup, the dessert bars, and yes hannah’s corn bread! they have lots to order offf menu too. look in their refrigerator sections. Am soooo grateful to have such a wonderful store/​café/​health resource. They rock! Give them some love. They are awesome!!!

Large beautiful store (love the building). They have an excellent selection of vegan soy-​free ingredients in their store.
We saw Daiya shreds & cream cheese, Earthbalance soy-​free butter (tubs and sticks!) Field roast (sausage & slices), and a soy-​free veggie burger option. They carry whoopie pies and muffins from Peace of Mind, yum. And that’s just the refrigerated section! They also have veggies.
The dry goods include Eden canned beans, Annie’s soups, all the cooking oils you would need, cereals, protein powders, bars, snacks, etc.
Essentially, they carry all the good stuff. They also have a small bulk food section: quinoa, oats, dry fruit etc.
There is a café, which I can’t wait to try to breakfast/​lunch/​etc (cashew-​based cheese available). Smoothies, coffee drinks, and Juice. Prices are a little high, but where else will you find this stuff up here.
And they have even more items — Art, cards, lotions/​potions, yoga accessories.
Definitely seems like a really cool place — super excited that they carry some things that a soy-​free vegan could consume. Can’t wait to report on the café portion.

So thankful to find a place with good vegan food, drinks, and staples.
I ordered a green limey and sat in their dining area. Rustic, comfortable and spacious.
They have lots to order off the menu and only wished I had come here sooner for lunch.
I also picked up a great water bottle with a juicer in the bottom so I can add some lemon, lime or an orange for flavor.
They have vitamins, mints, food and a cute little area upstairs with gift items.
I will def go back to eat when I am in the area again. See you next year!

…daft punk is playing over the speakers… there is some yoga place adjoining the vitamin section… food awesome… Smoothies more awesome… Basically, I feel like I’m at the rainbow market in San Francisco back home, but then I look outside and see the mountains… Nope I’m in NH ! Live free or die!

This place is fantastic! I stopped by here with my boyfriend for breakfast and decided we’d pick up lunch too when we saw the great menu. I got the homemade yogurt and fruit and it was great – very fresh with a great, unusual mix of fruit. My boyfriend got a bagel with lox, cream cheese, and onion. It was the best we’d ever tried! I had a hard time not eating half of his.
The lunch was great too. My salad was on the smaller side but quite fresh and with a nice mix of veggies you won’t find at other deli’s. My boyfriends turkey pesto panini smelled incredible and he said it was great too. The ambiance was awesome and we were a little bummed we got our food to-​go. The only negative comment we had was about the service. The person helping us seemed confused, slow, and poorly trained. We gave her the benefit of the doubt and assumed she was just new but it seems like a recurrent issue reading the other reviews.
Otherwise this place is awesome and we’ll be back often!

We were lucky to discover this place literally on our drive home from our honeymoon in the White Mountains. It made us a bit sad that we didn’t happen upon it earlier as we had been stuck eating the same overpriced Tofu Napoleon, onion rings, and french fries for 4 nights straight at our hotel. So we have only been there once and haven’t had the opportunity to sample the variety of vegan options there.
We each got the tempeh rueben sandwich, as well as an order of vegan dumplings and a side of homemade garlic hummus. Everything was amazing. The sandwich rivaled the best vegan sandwich places in Boston. The only reason we didn’t give a 5-​star rating was because honey seemed to be unnecessarily included in most of the «vegan» baked options (we don’t consider honey vegan). However, the agave-​sweetened coconut macaroon was divine.
