The Theater: Beautiful and very clean. I love the courtyard outside the theater, big Emmy’s statue and busts of famous television personalities.
The Parking: Private Lot ($ 4) or Street Metered Parking (limited).
However, no food or drinks are allowed in the theater. I miss my popcorn… :(

(Attended 01÷26÷13 SA @ 5pm): Membership had his privileges, and I’m glad my friend liked to extend them to me, too!
My friend worked in the industry so from time to time he’s been kind enough and invited me to special members screenings of movies at the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. On this day, it was the Tom Cruise feature, «Jack Reacher.» I’m not a huge fan of Tom Cruise, but it was a complimentary movie with a good friend with some grub afterward, so why not make an evening of it?! The outside was a wonderfully adorned area with busts of actors past and present, and a gigantic Emmy statue — all of which offered great photo opportunities (even for a local as myself). As you entered through the front door and greeted by a person who checked you in, the lobby area was spacious for many to congregate. And if you climbed the stairs to the second floor, the restrooms were up there along with even more TV memorabilia such as photos and such.
The theater had only one level and considerably smaller than most you’d find at any multiplex. No stadium seating but they were staggered enough so your view wouldn’t be obscured… unless a giant sat in front of you. The seats were roomy and cushiony, but they were a bit low-​slung as if I were in a «vato’s» car. Food or drinks were not allowed, and sometimes I thought I’d be asked to spit our my gum. The beauty of watching movies here were the lack of promos and commercials before the feature; It started up right at the beginning.
The service was nearly non-​existent outside of the administrator who checked us into the theater. There were no ushers once inside. Otherwise, there simply was no need for any service.
Parking was available along the main strip of Lankershim Blvd. or on the many surrounding streets. I always found easy parking a block away on Blakeslee Ave. — both free and metered ($ 1.00/hour; I paid for two hours). FYI… the meters were in operation everyday between 8am-​8pm. I believed there may be a structure but I have never searched for it.
Overall, the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences was a special treat and I was fortunate to experience not only this particular time but previous times before. I found absolute value based on the prices and service note above (total experience costed $ 2.00; no tip required). The atmosphere and décor was a simple theater of one I imagined inside a famous person’s home. The sound quality was very good. Outside of the two huge Emmy statues (one on each side of the screen), there was nothing else to speak of. The atmosphere was casual, but it was best to follow a more business casual idea, so no t-​shirts, boardshorts, and flip-​flops for me. Because there was no need for money of any kind, it didn’t matter whether or not they accepted my credit card of choice… AMEX!

This place has major Hollywood history. Most people don’t know it’s tucked away off the bustling street of Lankershim Ave. in Noho. Beautiful statues from old Hollywood icons to current day entertainers – great for picture taking even though inside is not for the general public.
Have been here for countless screenings and events — inside is extremely plush. Giant theatre with the most comfortable seats that go on forever. Giant gold Emmy statues flank each side of the gigantic screen. Great open bar/​reception area and staff. Hollywood gala perfection! :)

A very popular skateboarding venue — after 1 in the morning.
The parking structure is wide open with several floors of ramps and the local kids know no one will stop them if they come late enough to skateboard there. Or party after hours on the weekend.
It would also be nice if they asked people not to text during screenings — which an awful lot of people do.

It’s small and only members and their guests can come. The Hot in Cleveland as a guest and Spartacus as media.
For a place in NoHo, this place is quiet. I would expect a lot of tourists because it has tons of history but no, pretty quiet. :D
PARKING:
They have parking — but it costs money for nonmembers. I usually park on the street but for the media, it’s free because we do the coverage and exposure for the event.
LOCATION:
Close to a lot of food.
Clean area. The inside is small but every seat is a good seat. :D
Overall… try and be a member.

There are certain invitations you just can’t refuse. So, when I received an invitation from a good buddy to come to the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, I knew I had to accept. This venue isn’t open to the public, so you have to be invited and arrive with the Academy member that invited you, otherwise, you will not be allowed inside the building. Once inside, feel free to mingle and rub elbows with some of Hollywood’s finest.
Many of us like to watch television and movies, now just imagine watching your favorite show with some of the cast members from that show. Amazing, right?! It was a pleasure to see the well-​loved and respected Betty White. This lady is truly talented and a Godsend. She is down-​to-​earth, comical, witty, and just one of those rare individuals that everyone likes to be around. The glitz and glam wasn’t needed for this occasion, which was nice, because everyone was casually dressed and all had a good time. Admittedly, I will say that on another occasion at this venue, I came to see a movie and fell asleep. Unbeknownst to me, I fell into a light, yet noisily, sleep due to lack of interest in the movie. In layman’s terms, I was snoring. For my friends and I, that was probably the best part of the movie! At any rate, it’s not good to fall asleep during a movie in a public venue, especially at the Academy. That only happened once and I’ll try not to let it reoccur.
If you’ve never been to the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, I highly recommend a visit. The events are fun, and to watch a movie without all those commercials is so enjoyable. Feel free to browse the building and look at the photos of some of the greats from yesteryear, and look at the bronze sculptures outside the building, as well. Instead of «the Academy goes to», you can go to the Academy!

If you’re an Academy member, it’s the ONLY way to see a movie. No annoying fat people spilling their popcorn (because there is none), and kicking the back of your seat and, most of all, no screaming kids! VERY civilized!

Its the Emmy’s ground zero. What else ie there to say?!

Just beautiful. I was here for an Emmy screening very recently, and I couldn’t stop saying «this place is beautiful» through the whole show. Picture and sound quality were impeccable, and the place was kept as clean as… well, as clean as an Emmy screening theatre, I suppose.

The best place to see a movie.
The sound and picture are always perfect. This place is up to studio screening standards, but that’s not the best thing about this theater.
The best thing about this theater is the audience.
You see, I like to watch children’s movies. Of course, when you go to a theater and watch children’s movies, there are always screaming children. Even when you pay the exorbitant prices at the ArcLight. My friends say «Joy, you’re going to a CHILDREN’S MOVIE!!! There will be CHILDREN!!»
Because this theater is limited to members who work in the industry and have respect for film, all of the moviegoers are considerate. There are no talking people, gum chewing people, people texting, crying children, or babies. These children are seen and not heard.
One time I brought my parents and we were looking for three seats. In one row, there were two seats and then another single seat. A guy in the row sees us and asks «Are you looking for 3?» and when I say «Yes,» the entire row moves so we can sit together.
This place is the best.

the minute i walk to the courtyard i thought… daaaaamn. this place is BUSTY!!!
busty…you know… busty…like, there’s a lot of busts. like sculpted bust portraits of celebrities and notable figures in television. like Oprah for instance.
You won’t miss this place because you’ll immediately see the Emmy statue outside. They have screenings here for films and they even have award ceremonies here like The Annies (it’s like the Oscars for the Animation Industry). I went here for CalArts Character Animation’s Producers’ Show and got to check out the place. Seats are very comfortable and they have a huge projection screen and a state of the art sound system. The place isn’t open to the public, I believe but worth the visit if you know some people.

Short Version: Great place to see a film, if you can get in it.
Long Version: The Academy has a fantastically large theatre for screenings of films. Every seat in the house is a good one and your view is never obstructed by the people in front of you. The sound system is great, the screen is huge and the seats are comfy. Don’t expect to see a concession stand because this theatre is strictly for screenings for the entertainment industry. They run a tight ship there and it only makes the viewing better and everyone is always polite. If you can get in, try it, at least once.
