First time here. As soon as I pulled in, Joe opened my door, greeted me, politely asked me to sit in his waiting area that offers free wi-​fi, comfortable chairs, magazines, and nice 40 inch hdtv to watch while I wait. I only waited for five minutes and was out the door. I highly recommend this place.

I felt it was kind of funny that so many people would feel so strongly about a smog test, but when I realized the place down the street from my apartment was going to cost basically twice as much, I figured I would give it a shot.
I think the whole thing took less than five minutes. The guy was super polite, funny, and professionally dressed. The instructions are clearly marked when you drive in where to drive in, and to leave your car running. And then when you are done, you just drive through, no backing up… I’m confident that’s how they do it so much faster than everyone else. I was considering hopping on the free WiFi and/​or exploring Facebook on my phone, but then it was over. Now I am back at the DMV. I think I could have gotten ten smog’s done at Joe’s during the time I have spent sitting at the DMV!

Love this place! You drive in, park, hand over your keys and sit in their palatial waiting area; replete with a TV, free wi-​fi (that wasn’t working when I was there), fridge and magazines. Within minutes my car was tested and passed (a diesel). Very nice gentleman helped me, I got my Unilocal check-​in discount and was on my way.

I went here for a smog check on a weekday morning. I pulled in and there was no one ahead of me. Pricing was fair and I was out the door in less than five minutes. My results made it directly to the DMV system with no trouble on my end. I would come back without reservation.

Went here last year, Joe’s smog never sent the necessary data to DMV, I never received my tags, with the passing of two people in my life last year and transition from two employers, I didn’t go to the DMV to clarify that I have passed a smog check. Now time for renewal, can’t do it without another smog check. I returned to Joe’s smog, he informed me that I would have to get another smog check done, and that there’s nothing he can do for me because it’s only valid for 90 days, then added that there are two cars ahead of me and that he had a wedding to attend so I was told to get a smog check somewhere else!

Like so many of the other reviewers, I barely sat down before he was done. He is very thorough, even told me how to get back to Burbank Blvd. when I was done. I personally think smog checks every 2 years are such a ripoff for us drivers, but this guy eases the pain as well as he can. It was 5 minutes in and out at the most. I went at 2 p.m. on a Tuesday.

Only place in the valley that doesn’t charge you if you don’t pass. Fast friendly service. I’ve brought 2 out of 2 of my cars here one didn’t pass but I got it fixed and came back no problem. It passed the 2nd time (thankfully). It’s not that expensive either!

I went to this place after reading the amazing reviews this morning on Unilocal and let me tell you… These reviews do not lie.
I was really doubting that the whole process would be 5 minutes and as good as the reviews said, but a it really was.
When I arrive there was another customer ahead of me and I was told I would have to wait. They were finished and out of there so fast I hardly had time to think about waiting.
Then it was my turn.
I gave him my keys, he turned on the car and then had me sign some paperwork. I swear to you that I then opened my book started to read a page, began eating a banana and before I was finished with the banana I was done. That was it. Seriously.
I was more than impressed and the price is wonderful as well. I will be finitely be letting my friends know about this place.

I’m rating this place 5-​stars (AND MY CAR FAILED THE TEST)
Long story short, I just got a car that obviously needs a smog test before I can get plates.
I went to Smog Masters on Burbank/​Laurel Canyon because it’s closer to my house (and there’s no plates on my car). I failed the test and the guy gave me a very vague description of what the problem was AND STILL CHARGED ME $ 52? I left confused and frustrated, so I decided to go straight to Joe’s because of all the lovely Unilocal reviews.
He was MUCH more friendly, informed me that I could have a seat in the waiting area and he’d be with me after the person in front of me. My car failed the test… again, but he was able to explain why, what was needed to pass, AND DID NOT CHARGE ME.
If you need a smog check, LOOK NO FURTHER. Don’t make the same $ 50 mistake I made. This IS your place. **Drops mic.

Long version: My ‘check engine’ light was on, Joe didn’t waste my time or money. He told me to get that checked out before he smogged my car. A quick trip to Superior Auto (review to come later) and the amazing Paul finding and repairing the problem… I PASSED!!!

I’m always suspicious of anywhere with across the board 5 star Unilocal reviews. I’m always wondering how they have so many friends willing to go on Unilocal and write a review to help their friend’s business. But then you go, and you’re like «oh, that’s why they have so many great reviews — because they’re great.» And you leave feeling like a friend of the business yourself, and that’s why you go on Unilocal and write a 5 star review.
Now, obviously, you may have a different experience if you go here and your car fails a smog test, but at least you don’t pay if it does — while this didn’t happen to me, everything else they said on their website rang 100% true, so I’ve no reason to believe they’ve lied about this part either. It was so fast I literally pulled in, was told to leave the engine running, and was driving away in — I kid you not — less than 3 minutes, exactly $ 30 lighter ($ 19 ish plus e-​filing fees, as explained on their website) with my smog certificate in hand, another copy filed with the dmv, and all with a friendly smile and a wave from the guy doing the test.
Seriously, when a company runs an operation this smoothly, it makes you wish they were actually running the dmv itself, too. Thanks, guys, you’re amazing!

Joe advertises a 5-​minute smog check, but if anything he’s faster than that. In and out with no problem. Happy to pay the $ 30 (includes the test, the smog certificate, and the fee to electronically deliver the certificate to the DMV).

Absolutely the best smog check, even if you’re not in the area, you’ll appreciate how quick and easy it is. 5 minutes, lowest price (30 dollars otd/​out the door), and Joe himself is a friendly guy! I don’t even need to write this review, there are others like mine, but my experience here just had to be shared. Thing is, Joe knows how to run his business and he has high quality equipment that makes it run so fast!
I’ve done extensive work researching smog places in LA and the Valley, and I’ve finally found the best one. I’ve definitely used good ones before, but this trumps em all.

Been to many places to get the smog check done, but this experience has been the most hassle free, fast & professional experience I ever had anywhere in LA.
Unfortunately they can’t give you the sticker right then and there, which I used to like to have included with my previous place.
However, these days doing it online is simple and quick, and you don’t have to pay an up price. I paid $ 30 here and was in and out in 5min.

Joe’s is a find and a half! Went there to get a required smog check before registration. I was in and out in about 20 minutes, including waiting for another customer’s car to be finished. This place is small, clean and the laptop driven computerized testing system seems quite efficient. The best part is the $ 30 price, out the door! If the price does not go up, I will definitely be back for another smog check when required. For quality versus value, this place gets an A+. I highly recommend it.

After searching and reading reviews on Unilocal for the best places for a smog check I came across Joe’s Smog Check. I rushed thru traffic after work to make it at a decent time but no matter how hard I tried I got there one minutes before closing. I honestly thought Joe was going to turn me away but instead he welcomed me after he had put cars inside the garage as he was getting ready to close. I tried to tip him for taking my car so late and for making him move all the cars out to bring mine in but he politely rejected my tip. I drove in at 5:59 pm and was driving out at 6:07 pm. I recommend this place in a heart beat! I will definitely be going back! Thank you Joe! It’s really hard to find honesty and good quality service nowaday. You got it!

Just went to Joe’s for a smog check, and was even faster than 2 years ago.
It was literally close to 5 minutes from the time I handed him my DMV paperwork til he told me I passed, and sent the info to the DMV.
I brought a coupon from their website, and my cost for my truck (same as for a car per the coupon) was cheaper than other places I called.
I can think of nothing negative to say. Easy, affordable process.

Really easy to fine. I needed a smog check and I pulled in at 1:42pm on a Sat. The place was empty and I was quickly greeted an employee who asked me to wait a few mins. He wasn’t kidding. At 1:44, he told me my car passed and asked me to pay $ 30. He also noticed that my tags were expired (by 2 days) and gave me directions to the nearest AAA which was 10 mins away so I could get tags immediately.

More excellent service from Joe’s Smog Check. Now that new technology for smog/​air quality checking is in place, it take 5 minutes (kid you not… FIVE minutes from entry to completion) for the average vehicle (mine was a 2007). He still has a nice sitting area, free Wi-​Fi and refreshments and HDTV to watch, but you won’t be there long, so don’t worry about settling in unless he has customers in front of you.
