They answered a lot of my newbie questions, and didn’t make me feel stupid in any way. In fact, they went out of their way to describe in detail all kinds of things, and were real about what I needed and didn’t need. Amazing experience.
I haven’t experienced service like this in a long time. Everyone there is passionate about what they do which is hard to come by these days. This is by far the place to go for your sound needs. They are knowledgable and smart, above all, way cool people. Tim was great and went out of his way and clearly knew what he was talking about. Recommend to anyone, rare experience indeed.

Tim was helpful, kind and to the point. Great personality with great communication skills. I will be back. What I really appreciate is the resource I have by shopping and renting here … I know nothing about sound and either did my partner but we walked out with knowledge and equipment and super excited to create.

In June, I needed sound equipment FAST for a last minute video project for the nonprofit I work for. We had a minimal budget, with little to no time. We called LSC and the staff was so friendly and extremely flexible. Even though it was a busy day for them, they set aside time to help me with my last minute project. When arriving to pick up my equipment, they gave me a clear breakdown of all the parts and accessories in full detail. The CEO even helped me take my equipment to my car. We completed our project on time thanks to LSC. Great company, great staff!

This place is pro and very friendly… through and through. Dealt with Tom… the guy is a champ and every time I dealt with him… he just made the process easier. Reasonably priced as well.
You get there… and I was not there more than 4 – 5 minutes and 3 people asked me if I needed help.

What sets this place apart for me is the friendliness. I have gotten so much attitude at other production equipment sales/​rental houses. Not so at Location Sound. Totally nice folks, and total hyper-​knowledgeable pros. The best of both worlds. I will definitely be back here for future sound needs.

My former production sound teacher Jerry had suggested that I go, and talk to the people at Location Sound. He knew that I was on a tight budget but want the most bang for my buck.
Upon first walking in I was a little confused on where to go. There was so much movement and I was feeling a little under the weather. I checked out first the rental section and then decided that there was no better time than now to purchase an audio package.
That’s when I met Dave Auslender who really was a great help. I explained to him all the specifics and presented him with a list of products that I had been looking at. I was thinking about my budget and knew I needed to get a wireless system– it was if he had read my mind. He showed me a Sony wireless system. We chatted back and forth about pros and cons. I finally decided do it big, or go back home Jahcobie!
He printed out an invoice for me because I needed to wait for my paypal funds to transfer into my bank account. I told him I would give him a call and see him very soon. I’m pretty sure he didn’t realize that next time I called him I’d be in a serious crunch.
The day I had been asked to work on a set that ran about 7 days. Also, I would be working right up until I had to leave on a flight to go to Boston for a documentary. I gave Dave a call and frantically explained to him that I wasn’t going to be able to come in and really needed to secure the equipment. He was an angel. I was able to do the transaction remotely and have it shipped to Boston.
Location Sound is one of my new favorite filmmaking gems! As a recent grad and know many indie filmmakers, musicians, and audio people I will be happy to recommend that they talk with Dave! Thank you so much for your time, promptness and all you did. It really made my to-​do list go a lot smoother. I ended up getting a Lav wireless system, Shotgun, Tascam and a few different accessories to make sure that I was ready to get up and shoot!

Great place but you have to know what you want.
This place is for pros. If you go in here understanding what you need for your sound, they can and will hook you up. The people that have issue with this business are the ones who don’t really understand what they are looking for or are expecting sound-​magic to happen without paying the price for the appropriate gear.
Location Sound is a bit pricey. You can find what they have to offer cheaper on the internet. But, if you want to walk in, touch and feel what you are buying, and then walk out the door with the product in your hand, then this is the place for you.
Also, their staff is very knowledgeable.
This is one of the, (if not the), best place for sound and cinema sound recording accessories in the area. They also have a very good rental department.

These guys are amazing. They handle 300k rental orders on a regular basis yet when I go in for two boom mics they treat me with the same care and respect as the big guys. Their customer service is awesome. I started as a writer so my production experience was limited — they never once made me feel stupid for not being an audio pro. Can’t say enough good things about the rental service here.

Back when I used to do location sound often (20 some years ago), this was my go to place for gear and parts. BUT more recently:
Not such a great experience here — went in to buy some replacement shock mount clips for my Rycote Zeppelin to use with my Senn. 816 — at first the sales guy kept trying to up-​sell me on getting an entirely new zeppelin/​shock mount setup for like $ 450. ???
All I needed were new clips.
Finally, after talking to him for half an hour and making it clear that I was not going to buy a whole new setup, he agreed to sell me some clips for $ 29.
Okay, better. But I asked him if they were for the 816, and he assured me they were — but when I got the clips on my mount, I found out NO, these in NO WAY would hold an 816 — they are far too loose. The 816 (I discovered later) must have the GREY clips that are much stiffer.
I had to wrap the clips they sold me in gaffers tape just to get through the shoot.
And secondly, I bought a new foam windscreen for my Schoeps — and the one he sold me was TOO BIG.
UGH!
I get that this is a specialty business, and so they charge full retail on everything — but seriously, I’d expect them to at least KNOW a little bit about the gear they are selling.
I don’t like the way I was treated, and I hate the fact that I was sold items that were not what I specified I needed.

I’ve rented sound equipment for four weekends from Location Sound in the past few months and have had no problems: prompt, efficient. HOWEVER, the employees will tell you: Bring in your camera and test it with the equipment on-​site, which is true – I didn’t have the camera to test with me the first weekend and ended up not being able to use the mike the first weekend due to not having the proper connector cord. My fault, not theirs.
To sum up: Location Sound will get you what you need to rent, and will not try to upsell you. If you are shooting digitally, you will probably need an XLR to mini cable. Learn from my mistake. Test your camera with the mike on-​site at Location Sound.

Helping friends in their independent projects has brought me here to rent equipment. They’ve always been helpful and patient in helping me put a sound package together. Their experienced staff and wide selection of pro audio gear makes doing business with Location Sound very easy. They will assist and answer as many questions as you may have. Even giving advice to what your trying to accomplish. The rates are very competitive, and I think they’d even work with you in getting you what you need. So whether your working on a big project or just doing a little sound reinforcement for bands, Location Sound, will be a place you won’t want to pass up.

Love these guys! I had them recommended to me by a friend when I needed to rent a shotgun mic for a shoot. The staff was really knowledgable and helpful, and worked with me to find just the right mic.
I came to them recently for another shoot. I’d planned on renting a couple different mics to shoot a performance, and the guy there actually talked me OUT of renting equipment. He listened to what I needed, and let me in on a better way to grab the sound, which didn’t involve additional mics. How many rental houses would choose efficiency over a new sale? These guys rock.
