Under new ownership and they are much nicer! Quality and cleanliness I I think has improved as well. This is pretty much a local butcher shop. Meat prices are unbelievably low! 5lbs of chicken for under $ 9! Sorry trader joes these are cheaper and better quality! Also halal chicken has a cleaner taste, not many people can pick up the difference, but this matters to me. Plus if you’re into Indian ingredients, this is he place to be.

New owner, really nice service and pleasant experience so far. The store have been rearranged in nicer way. Every single meat I’ve asked for was there and new owner was very polite and helpful. I’ve asked for organic rice and he went out of his way to explain origin of every rice package he carried.

Ive been going to this place for a while and although they have all the spices and halal meat u want… the owner is NUTS! I went with my mom and rather than just telling us gently that he was in a rush to pickup his kid from school. he started yelling at my mom and then me… i told him to calm down but he wouldnt shut up… and cursed us out. We r two women and this man told us to get out of his store. HESNEVEREVETGETTINGMYBUSINESS.RUDE.DISRESPECTFULANDUNGRATEFUL!!!

Small indian grocery store and halal butchery. Convenient if you absolutely must have a certain spice for your indian cooking needs. The owner seems less than friendly(borderline rude) and that’s largely why this is a 2 star review. The store seems adequately stocked but not a place you want to browse in, as it seems stuffy and just a bit unwelcoming.

I cook Indian quite often and I can find pretty much everything I need in this shop at very good prices. Actually it’s the cheapest Indian store I know. You can even find FRESH curry leaves !! The guy is pretty nice, sometime not too talkative but always helpful. Really Excellent. A parking is on the back…

«Would you like a Slurpee?» Okay, I just wanted to reference«The Simpsons» but honestly, Noho Halal Meat & Grocery is no 7 Eleven. Located near the core of the Noho Arts District, this quint grocery is certainly under-rated. Okay, granted there is some crazy mechanism that spawns a ventriloquist like female voice saying, «Welcome» when you open the door which sounds like the girl from«Poltergeist» and the florescent lighting inside the store is much to harsh; but I give the owner credit for reaching the ethnic Middle Eastern customers. Ranging from spreads, spices, to cereals, and main dishes; this store meets the needs of hard-to-find Middle Eastern ethnic ingredients. There is also a deli/butcher area as well, for your meats(hence the business name). I expected an Indian store clerk whom would be generally unfriendly and barely speak English; but he was in fact VERY warm and welcoming and asked what I was«cooking for dinner». We had a small conversation about my Persian boyfriend and he recommended some key spices for my dishes. The past part is the prices. I purchased a giant container of cumin for only $ 1.99 and curry powder for $ 2.99. These spices in Ralph’s run at three times that prices for container that is five times smaller. Nutella is only $ 5.99 for the LARGE container, which generally runs $ 6.99 for the regular size at other markets. I found my Nutella source! Not the best market, it could use a décor over-haul; but great for your spice/ingredient run. And with these prices? You can’t pass them up during this recession!
