Rent-​a-​Stranded Car should be the name of this place. Oh you can count on being stranded. This place simply cannot keep its own cars running. Battery after battery after battery after battery after battery after battery after battery after altanator after battery after battery after battery after battery after battery after battery after battery after battery. You will never in a million years be able to keep the car running without you being stranded with this company y not picking up the phone having to spend your own money to repair or just keep the car road worthy.

This place should be shut down !!! The guy that runs it is a lunatic !!! My wife rented a car from him and it was mechanical unsound from the start a broken down bucket, it broke down check engine light on, she called the owner to tell him and he screamed at her, so many reasons to stay away from this dirtbag !!! Do yourself a favor we then rented from hertz on victory blvd in Burbank and they were wonderful !!!

This place is dangerous the cars aren’t safe at all. Breaks on numerous cars are worn down, paperwork doesn’t match the car. I got pulled over nothing was right on car Over priced for the condition and types of car, then the guy here is racist and rude and don’t expect to be compensated for gas you put in car even though they give it you on empty.

Where to begin… This is a horrible bottom-​feeder of a man and should be forced out of business. When asked for the final price over the phone, he omits the insurance which he says was OPTIONAL only if you bring in your policy. And when I pull mine up buried in my email he gets angry because I refused to play his game HE REFUSES TO RENT TO ME. Pure bait and switch! Isn’t there a place in town that polices these shady fly by night places? I drove to Pasadena because that’s where google maps said he was but he also failed to tell you over the phone that they moved to NORTH HOLLYWOOD, eating 2 hours out of my Saturday.

If I could give 0 stars I would. Manager was late both times when picking up. The attendant kept telling me that he could do nothing until the manager showed up (during normal business hours multiple time) and the manager even yelled at my wife when she went to return a truck we rented. Horrible service and the manger should not be in business. Also, they don’t return your deposit for two weeks after you return the car. You just have to hope they take care of it. Do not rent from here!

I called what I believed to be the Pasadena location. I spoke to someone and I got a good rate, and he threw in a free extra day. He seemed motivated to get me a car rental. Great. I got on the public transit from Downtown LA to the far end of Pasadena. 40 mins later I’m looking for the branch and it’s not there… I call back and the person I spoke to let’s me know that that branch is CLOSED! He’s in Burbank… He assures me it’s quick and easy to get to North Hollywood on the train. I’m annoyed at this point, because I know it’s going to take at least an hour in the other direction, but I needed the car for that day so I got on the train and hour or so later I arrive at the North Hollywood station. I call him to pick me up. I wait at a taxi stand as he suggested, and 25 mins later I’m still waiting… I had it at that point. While waiting I found a weekly rental on my phone at Midway for $ 8 more a week plus taxes. It’ll be worth it going somewhere that is organized, reliable and straight forward. Who knows, you may be lucky and rent a car with this branch without a hitch, or you can have the bizarre and wasted day that I just had. It’s a gamble that I will not take again. Rent a Wreck Burbank is not an option whenever I’m here in LA.

0 stars. Don’t go here. Went here to rent a U-​HAUL and was told there were no units available — there were four parked out front. The man began to try and sell us on one of his own rental vans with a $ 300 HOLD FEE. When we started walking away he said that he actually had a U-​HAUL for us. When we called him out on it he denied ever saying there were no U-​HAULs available. Mad shady.

Add this to the overwhelmingly negative experiences at this horrible place.
PART 1: I had taken my Honda in to the dealership to examine it for possible defective air bags, and, as fate would have it, my vehicle had air bags that needed to be replaced. But, the dealership did not have the parts, so it would take an indefinite time for them to be able to replace the air bags. Well, I was not going to drive around in a car whose air bags might kill me if they deployed, so I left the car there and decided to rent a car while they got the parts and installed them.
PART 2: This was a Saturday early afternoon, and all the major rental agencies were already closed. The closest that were open were at Burbank Airport, and I didn’t want to deal with airport traffic, etc. So… in my past, I had rented a couple of times from Rent-​a-​Wreck places, one in Montana, and one on the East Coast, and they were not bad. Not exactly your Hertz or Avis, but decent and fairly new cars and a price that was good. So I called this North Hollywood franchisee and it was open and «had cars.» FIRST LIE. I asked if they could pick me up and drive me to their office, and he said he would send somebody.
PART 3: I went there and could not believe the filthy yard the place had. The office was no different: dirty, slovenly, and sleazy. The agent assured me that he «had cars» although I hadn’t seen anything on the lot that didn’t look like it was in an auto body and repair shop. I told him about the circumstances of my Honda and that I probably would need a car for a week although my car might be ready sooner in which case I would return it earlier.
PART 4: He offered me a weekly rate, and we then agreed that, if I returned the car early, the daily rate would be $ 25/​day. Then he showed me the «cars.» He had a big, old Ford Expedition and said, «I’ll even give you this.» I drive a Honda Hybrid and wouldn’t be caught dead in a gas-​guzzler like that; besides, from the looks of it, I wondered if it would even get me home. Then, there was the old Buick whose front window seal was almost half gone; then there was a badly dented Corolla with peeling paint and grundgy interior. Finally, there was a 12 year old Ford Taurus that didn’t look too bad. I said «I’ll take that one.» I should have looked at it better.
PART 5: We went back into the office, and he prepared the agreement and gave it to me. I signed and initialed everything. He told me of the security deposit and I said, «No problem.»
PART 6: MY drive home was a nightmare. The interior was disgusting, with old food and dirty plastic bottles in the back; the driver’s door was missing much of it’s upholstery; the car reeked of artificial pine; and that’s not the worst. It drove poorly and very noisily; the steering wheel trembled in my hands. What a lemon. But, by the time I got home, the office had closed. I did not drive the car anywhere else that day, but the next day I had to go to work downtown. I drove and was lucky to make it there and back. The next morning (Monday), I drove it back to the lot in order to be there when they opened, supposedly 9AM.
PART 7: By 9:20, the «manager» had not showed up, so I asked someone to drive me back, leaving the car at the lot.
PART 8: He processed my credit card for $ 481. I called corporate Rent-​a-​Wreck to see if they could do something about this rip-​off. They were sympathetic, said they had had many complaints about the North Hollywood office. I protested the charge.
PART 9: Ultimately, I was credited with all but $ 60. which was more than the amount for daily use we had agreed on. I had had a very disagreeable conversation with the «manager,» who became very nasty on the phone. All in all one truly horrible experience.
SO, SAVE YOURSELF GRIEF. DO NOT GO THERE.

If I could give this guy NO stars I would. Had a 10 am reservation and when we called after seeing no one was there he said he wasn’t going to show up until 10:30. Totally unreliable. Don’t go here!

The absolute worst experience of my life. Charged me twice and argued about refunding me. DO NOT GO HERE

This place is the worst customer service the worst cars and no reliability on the vehicles. Nothing worked in the vehicle air-​conditioning window wipers lights suspension the inside was filthy dirty and now they will not give us a refund even though they came out and swapped cars.

I needed to rent a car for a week and had an awful experience here. They wound’t give me the rate i reserved and i ended up paying almost what i would have paid at Enterprise. The car was a piece of crap! I had to keep my hand on the gear shifter whenever I was in third gear because it would randomly pop out of gear! Also the side view mirror fell off when I drove over a railroad crossing. I have rented from a rent-​a-​wreck in Florida where I was given an older car but was well maintained and operated fine and for a fair price. I wasn’t expecting a new car but the car they provided me was unacceptable. The cars here are not well maintained and the people here are greasy to say the least.

The SHADY customer service is beyond my comprehension. Upon returning the vehicle, «Nick» (middle eastern man) began yelling at me, in front of my toddler, all because I asked if his normal business hours began at 10am!!! (as I had been waiting for a long time) WTF??! Which is what the assistant working there told me is the regular time this guy shows up daily. Then he completely flipped out because I «pointed my finger at him». Seriously? I asked him if he would please not yell at me in front of my daughter and he just continued on his rampage of words. This guy is bonkers!!! And yes, VERY shady in demeanor. He wanted me to leave the vehicle and keys, and trust in his good faith that he would return my deposit and send my receipt via fax. Who uses a fax machine??! People, stay away. This location needs to close. We don’t need this type of person in business.

All things considered, my experience with Rent-​A-​Wreck has been pretty great. I just moved here and needed to find something cheap and easy that I could move some furniture with. They set me up with a Toyota mini-​van that ran smoothly and cost less than anyone else in the area.
If you need something in a pinch and you’re broke, I would definitely recommend this. It’s obviously not going to be a souped up Ferrari, but whatever they give you will get you from point-​A to point-​B just fine.

I wish I can give this place 0 stars! Worst place to rent a vehicle! They gave me car that wasn’t working and left me stranded and to make it worst they never picked up my calls. I seriously DO NOT recommend this place!!!

DO NOT RENT FROM THIS PLACE! I don’t care how «cheap» the cars are advertised, they are all unreliable. A corolla was promised to a peer of mine and when he went to pick up the car, he was given an expedition. An old expedition at that. «This is the only reliable car I have,» the owner said. What kind of business says that??? Anyways, on the way back from our trip, the car completely turns off in the freeway in the middle of the Desert. Thank god we didn’t crash! Saving money is not worth risking ur life. Avoid this place!

I come today to return the more expensive car they forced me to get because my reservation does not mean they will have the economy size cars (then what is the point of a reservation??? Ha) and they are screwing another poor person over in line in front of me. Same thing, reservations don’t mean they will have the car –_​– Plus he’s forcing them to get insurance on the DOLLY they are using when for me they said they didn’t even have insurance for my car. Out. Of. Control. Stay away, this place really is highway robbery. It doesn’t even save u money, so what is the point.

Look — the place is called Rent-​a-​Wreck, so don’t expect the greatest vehicle going in.
Steve made me a good deal for a month’s rental for my daughter, who is 20. She was in a car accident and needed a car for an unspecified amount of time. Most (if not all) of the major car rental places won’t rent to a driver under 21. The car (a Ford) was a little shaky but it served its purpose. Sure, the location is pretty bottom-​of-​the-​barrel, but my rental and return went off without a hitch, and I was even given a free ride to the North Hollywood Metro station.

Horrible. Horrible. Horrible. Still waiting for my deposit to be sent back to me. It’s been over a week. The man yelled at me on the phone for asking about my deposit and treated me like I was an idiot. If you are desperate for a cheap rental, then you do what you have to do. But don’t expect customer service in any way. Hopefully I get my $ 350 deposit back.
