The Acting Corps

The Acting Corps was the best choice I could have made for a short but deep exploration of acting technique in LA. Because I am only in LA for the summer, I wanted to get as immediately involved as possible. My focus this summer is training (rather than auditioning, since I’m only here for a short while), so I love that the Acting Corps’ program is every weekday for a few hours each day. I don’t know of any other school in LA that gives students comparable class time in such a short timeframe. The quality of each class is not compromised, however! Every single day I learned something significant from my teachers.
In addition to the mandatory 3 hour classes, the school also offers 2 one-​hour classes (one at 9 am and one at 6 pm) that any student can attend for extra practice. During Bootcamp I, I especially enjoyed these extra morning classes because they allowed me informal introduction to more teachers at the school, a great way to practice the technique we were learning in class, and a way to bond and meet new students.
Joanna and the office staff are incredibly kind and friendly. I respect my teachers’ experiences and trust their judgment and suggestions when offering critique. My fellow classmates are engaged and willing to explore. And I am gaining a solid foundation in Meisner and Chekov (obviously cannot be compared to a conservatory, but the Acting Corps has given me a great place to start! I would feel confident seeking more strict Meisner training now that I know what I would be getting out of it). I couldn’t ask for more.
I would also note that most of the negative reviews about the Acting Corps are pretty dated now, and none of the complaints resonate with my experience. The only possible drawback of the Bootcamp Program is that working full-​time or auditioning often would probably conflict with the daily classes, so if you decide to do this program, you should probably be willing to cut back on auditions just until the end of Bootcamp II! THEN you can audition again, as a much better prepared actor.

So I’m here for a while now and waited until I have a clear perception of this school. I think think it’s fair to review a place otherwise. Last weekend I was invited to showcase and do a workshop that CSA put together with SagAftra with Russell Boast, Marci Liroff and many other casting director, in heir attempt to look for devices it’s: I am so happy to affirm that what I was learning here was mirroring everything that I was learning with the school. Down the the order in my resume. Classes are expensive so it’s nice to know I’m not wasting my money.

I have been in the school for about 3 years now and I can honestly say there’s nothing like it. (yes I have attended other schools) The attention and expertise you receive from the teachers is something you will not find any where else. They understand what it takes to make it in this business and they push you to a that level to were you are able to compete with the rest.
I guess what I love most about the school is that I am learning from teachers that are still in the business. I’m not learning from someone who acted 20 years ago and has not booked anything since. I’m learning from real actors who are auditioning and who are still booking jobs. I feel that is so important because the business land scape is forever changing, so to have people on the inside of that who are giving you first hand knowledge on what to expect is something not many schools can offer.
Another special and unique thing about this school is at the end of every month the AP (advanced placement) students perform for people and students. The experience of getting up in front of your peers and strangers alike is something that benefits so you much in that it gives the actor the opportunity of getting over small fears that interfere with your work. So when you book that play or movie your body and mind is already conditioned to performing in front people. That allows your work really shine through cause there is nothing holding you back.
Forever grateful to this school and what it has done for me

Been going to this school since November. Didn’t know much about acting before starting here, but have learned a lot a grown as an actor. The staff are always extremely helpful and really have an eye for know each student area of improvement. The teacher are all extremely talented actors and know what they are doing and teaching!

After several years of feeling like something was missing, I rediscovered my passion for acting and I am so grateful that The Acting Corps has been my venue for that. I’ve studied at every level there and, across the board, the teachers have been insightful, attentive, caring, and truly inspiring. Their teaching is always constructive and unquestionably supportive. Every teacher has cared for my individual growth as an actor and put their heart into their work in every class. I’ve found their technique to be very practical, continually surprising, and invaluable in my artistic journey as an actor and a person. Whether you are a seasoned veteran or someone who’s always wondered if acting is for you, I cannot recommend this school highly enough. If you want to explore and grow and you are ready to work hard, go to The Acting Corps.

The Acting Corp is an amazing school for anyone that wants to be an actor, even if you don’t have any experience at all. The teachers are all amazing people that actually care about your growth and development. Classes are 5 days a week but days and nights are offered, so you have options if you are also juggling a job like most of us are. I’d strongly recommend Acting Corp to anyone that is looking to further their acting career!!!

This is an incredible school. It has everything you could need to better yourself as an actor. Its suitable for any stage of actor weather you are just starting or you have been out in the field already, as they focus on building the right foundation to take on any job in the industry.
The teachers at the school are the best I have ever had as they are all still working actors who have tons of enthusiasm to pass their knowledge on to the students. They are also constantly getting new information as they move with the industry so there is never an acting question that goes without an educated answer. If you as a student are putting in the work inside and outside of class then they are able to find ways to push your acting technique to the next level, guiding you through the experience. Although they have all worked on big productions and have always worked with top professionals, none of them take time out of class to drop names or stories about people to try and impress you; which I have experienced at other places and it doesn’t help towards actual acting technique. They are genuinely interested in you bettering yourself as an actor in order to book more jobs.
There is a big support system at the school and if you have a problem with anything all of the staff in the office are happy to help as are the teachers. This makes it a safe environment to push your limits and get out of your comfort zone.
I have taken BC1, BC2 and been in the advanced program for some time which has allowed me to experience most of the teachers as well as the artistic director Eugene Buica, who is phenomenal. He spends a lot of time with each person during class and is able to figure out where certain people are struggling, this enables him to help them work past anything that might be holding them back. He is a top class acting coach with a no nonsense attitude which is passed to his students and allows for
I seriously can not say enough praise for the school and process of learning that has been created at the acting corps. Since being here it has given me the confidence and ability to book a manager, an agent and multiple different filming jobs. I have also had meetings at top networks as a result of being at the acting corps, the coaching from the artistic director helped me be the best i can be for the auditions and meetings.
All of the teachers are real with you instead of just saying the performance was amazing so they can move on to the next person. They do however praise you if you have put in the work and done a good job.
If you truly want to improve your craft and have the confidence to book jobs because of that then this is definitely the school for you. Put in the work and you shall see the rewards very quickly.
I am an extremely happy customer and recommend this place to anyone who wants to improve.
What this school has provided for me has been life changing.

I truly believe if you take the classes seriously and fully commit to giving your all in everything you do for these classes you will not be disappointed. For all the negative reviews, notice not one of them continued past BC 2 or even BC 1… I’m not trying to sound like a cheesy advertisement but, this was the first place I’ve ever taken acting classes and I couldn’t be happier about that. I loved BC 1, but it wasn’t until BC 2 did I feel I was genuinely progressing for the better. Then I started AP, I now feel more comfortable than I ever thought I would analyzing and performing a scene. Even my friends have been impressed by what I’ve brought to the stage and that is such a good feeling-​that you may never get to experience-​if you don’t put yourself out there and really commit.

One of the best School for the Art of Acting, the teachers are experienced caring and real, the school has a good energy, and the students are from all over the world :)

I am an immensely grateful actor studying at The Acting Corps. I am grateful for the immeasurable learning experiences and supportive relationships they provide. Seriously, The Acting Corps has much to offer and I recommend you take their opportunity of growth. What I gained was well worth the price, really.
I began my journey with them in The Actors’ Boot Camp Basic, then The Actors’ Boot Camp II. I was provided with a wealth of skills and knowledge within the essential classes provided, which include Scene Study, Cold Reading, On Camera Technique, The Business of Show Business, The Actors’ Instrument (voice and movement training), and last but not least the Daily Acting Workouts. I say that because the Daily Acting Workouts provide actors the opportunity (not mandatory) to get on their feet M-​Friday, and work with rotating teachers and other students not in your class, to utilize and sharpen your acting techniques. The Acting Corps is the only studio offering anything like that. It’s like a free class everyday!
I really can’t say enough about the staff. The owner Eugene Buica is an empathetic class act with a fiery desire to help others achieve what most people don’t realize they can achieve. Essentially, when I walk in the door I try to become a sponge. Eugene and the other instructors have so much to offer and are eager to offer. I find so many other places will tell you the surface material but not the hidden gems of what it takes to go from good to great, which is what they do here.
The Acting Corps has, and is, essential to my career. I recommend you take advantage of this fantastic opportunity.

I come from an old school dance training back ground where learning the discipline of the art was serious and yet fun. That’s very important for me. I was looking for a place that I could train and learn a technique in a form of higher education.
I understand this is not a university or college setting, but for me it is as close as it gets and it feels like it. I love that I have a schedule. I love that I have different teachers and I love that there are different levels you get to advance to. I am beyond grateful that they offer extra daily workouts for us! This is totally complimentary for us! It pumps you up, boosts your confidence, and opens you up in a whole new level that you didn’t even know you were capable of.
I have been to couple of acting studios, but I have to say the bond here with the students is kind of awesome and cool. I love the positive vibes! I don’t know where that comes from but I truly appreciate that and I feed off of that energy. I believe that helps all of us want to work hard and pursuse whatever it is we like to accomplish. At least it does for me.
At the end of the day nothing is perfect, not a place, a person and even a school. They all have its flaws. So you have to make a decision on what is good for you and what environment works best for your learning style to help you become the best human being and into the artist you want to become.
Just remember ultimately the key is in your hand, they will give you the tools and you decide what you want to do with it. I wish you well on your journey in picking the best school for your acting career.

This is a great place to start acting. Lives turn around here. I thoroughly enjoyed my time here. I recommend it to anyone looking to start acting.

I finished up BC 1 and BC 2 last summer and I have been attending this school for over a year and a half now. After finishing up both boot camps, I chose to stay in the advanced program because of the awesome friendships that I made over the past year and especially because of the teachers.
If I never took the chance to join this school, I never would’ve met my current best friend, roommate, and my two amazing mentors. Sydney Walsh and Corey Sorenson are the two best teachers you can ever have in the acting business.
Although I didn’t book anything through the school, they taught me the tools to go out and do it on my own and now I’ll be on HBO next year and I’ve got a kick ass manager. You won’t regret it!

I am currently in bc2 and I love my experience here. The teachers are the real deal and all really talented actors. They are very relevant and up to date with whats going on in the industry. The techniques taught here are one of a kind. They will bring out your talent and make it shine like it did mine. Becoming an actor is hard work! Great work! I have made life long connections with the other students and will definitely continue on with the advanced program!

I have studied with many different schools and The Acting Corps is by far the best program i have been apart of. The teachers are amazing, and they come from many different backgrounds. They have daily acting workouts in the morning at 9:00 a. m and the evening at 6:00 p.m. The teachers rotate so you get the best of what they all offer. Amazing school if you are in LA go audit a class.

Here is my experience with the acting corps… My group of students were amazing. We all got along great and worked well together. I think they were having trouble controlling a few of us so half way through the session Eugene decided to write up a contract stating that he could terminate any student who basically didn’t play by his rules. So even though I paid for the entire session he was able to excuse me as a student for «failure to complete» a homework assignment with no refund.
The morning workouts are fun and its a great way to meet other actors. The classes and teachers are mostly bullshit. Seriously saw more talented students in that place then the actual teachers.

I am currently at BC2 after completing BC1 and I’m going to join AP right after. I highly recommend this way of studying to any new student or even advanced one.
The continuity of lessons really makes it intense and sustained. You progress fast and learn a lot. The advantage of advanced program is that its ongoing and its a good place to workout even if you’re a working actor. Every month there is a presentation of work by students of AP, and a showcase is organized twice a year. Teachers are formidable, all working professionals. Special thanks to Sydney for her enormous generosity and sharing of her knowledge. Administration is on the point and really pro.
There is a possibility to attend accent reduction lessons for international students.

After moving to LA I spent a lot of time researching what acting class I should take that would best submerse me into the beginning of my acting career and having completed their Boot Camp level 1 class I can say without hesitation that this was the best decision I could have made. The comradery you feel not just in your own class but in the entire school community is the best I’ve ever seen from an acting school. The teachers are all very much qualified and I have learned more in one month then I have in my entire life with acting. I can’t wait to start boot camp level 2 already.

The Acting Corps may not be the warmest and friendliest environment to learn acting but it is a great school if you really want to learn and improve your acting skills. The school provides a unique way to acting by focusing more on analyzing and understanding your role.
The staff and coaches take pride and passion in they work. They did everything to make sure everyone at the camp was involved. They have shown high levels of acting knowledge and skills. They were also helpful and were intent in nurturing the skills of each student.
I would definitely recommend this acting school, especially to those who want to be equipped with the knowledge, skills and understanding on how to act naturally.

Took classes here a long time ago. Well back in 2005 maybe? Anyway the guy who runs it Eugene Buica is easily the biggest douchebag I’ve ever met. Not exaggerating. That’s all I got.

I don’t know why after 10 years I wrote this review. For one thing Unilocal wasn’t around then. For another if you’re familiar with the way the Internet affects attention and attention span and how you can go from googling strawberries to watching videos of someone pulling bot flies from their back in maybe 3 minutes. Not difficult then to see that perhaps I just had a conversation with an acting friend on her way to a class and then I start thinking of my previous experience and now that I’m a Unilocal user I get on and make the review.
I find it ironic that the same place now asking me for constructive criticism failed to provide any — which really was the basis for my opinion. Some of the individual instructors were great. Based on their feedback too I was certainly one of the better in my class at being in the moment and using the techniques we were learning. Funny then that I get paired with probably the worst of the class for the little final presentation to see if we get to move «up» from BC2 to the next level. But lucky for my partner I guess she was a semi-​known girl from a national cell phone commercial campaign and I guess she was going to be praised and moved up regardless of what she did. So I stand by what I said and my opinion of the guy. Maybe it was a little harsh and I could say he came off as arrogant, aloof and inaccessible. But it all means the same thing.
