New Planet Moving & Storage

Got referred by a friend to this company. This company did an excellent job on my move. I went online to compare companies and prices and New Planet was one of the few I decided I’d talk to. From the initial call with the Lauren, to the driver and his crew everyone was very friendly and helpful through the entire procesd. Moving is a stressful thing to begin with, but with New Planets affordable rates and full service packages it made it alot easier. I ended up paying only an extra $ 50 For a TV crate. The owner Moses called to ask us if we could deliver a day earlier than planned, he was very nice and gave us a discount for any inconvenience. That was actually great because we arrived early too. I will recommend them to my friends and family for sure.

I recently moved from California to Texas with New Planet. These are highlights of my experiences with New Planet.
1. They lost 3 piece of my furniture. It took 3 ½ weeks and escalation to the owner, Moses, to get the items found. My lesson with this is that Farah (who is supposed to handle missing items), gives the impression of not caring. She is unresponsive. Moses, however, does take things more personally and will work harder to resolve your issues.
2. Overall, I had a good experience with my salesperson, Lauren. However there was one issue … Additional costs are possible, mainly Stairs, Long Carry and Shuttle. The first 2 were discussed with me at length prior to signing the contract. However, Shuttle costs were never mentioned. The contract does say that additional charges may apply for Shuttle. BUT, the contract does not mention that the additional costs can be 20%. That is HUGE INFO that needs to be budgeted for. One driver told me that most deliveries require shuttles, but a second driver told me that it is uncommon outside of inner city areas like Manhattan. Ask questions … otherwise this will be sprung on you minutes before they start loading your truck.
3. The drivers who actually handled my stuff are awesome. They were skilled with handling furniture, wrapped it well, and were personable. For me they were the highlight of the experience.
4. I moved over 200 items — furniture and boxes combined. I had minor damage to a few items. No move is smooth … one must expect that. But I felt this part of the move went very well.
I gave a 4-​star review because, even though I did not like the lack of communication about shuttle costs it is my impression that this is how most moving companies handle it. As for the lost items … to me understandable and (assuming I get them back as planned) really not that big a thing.

You get what you pay for I guess. I should have checked out the reviews here first. I arranged for a move from Phoenix, AZ to Detroit, MI. I had an in-​person estimate done by Mayflower who estimated 6,000 lbs and I’m told they are conservative.
On the day of the move, the driver surveyed what I had and came up with 1400 lbs more than Mayflower’s estimate. He goes through the dance of do a negotiated additional fee for the additional weight or take my chances at the scales at $ 0.79 per lb. The original estimate was $ 3,555 and the new estimate at pickup was $ 4,656.
The pickup crew put a heavy emphasis on «crating» my furniture that contained glass, for an additional fee of course. I’m retired military and moved all over the world doing more than 20 moves in my career and I’ve never had any furniture «crated» and never had an issue. Pass. Overall though, the pickup crew was very good in how they handled my goods.
Driver told me my goods should be delivered within 14 days. ⁷⁄₂₁ was the pickup and I received a call that my goods should arrive either ⁸⁄₉ or ⁸⁄₁₀. Tried to contact the driver. Nothing. Contacted dispatch on ⁸⁄₉ and told it would now be ⁸⁄₁₁ or ⁸⁄₁₂. After complaining yet AGAIN (and hearing nothing back), I get a call from the driver saying my goods would be delivered on ⁸⁄₁₄. 24 days from pickup.
I will update after delivery on the quality of delivery.
Delivered on ⁸⁄₁₄. Two guys and a total of 2 ½ hours to unload. I must say, this crew was one of the best I’ve felt with and I’ve moved probably over 20 times in my career. Professional, careful and just plain a good group of guys.
The owner of the company called me and discussed my concerns. The owner was very polite and explained the process in detail to me. I very much value a company that will rectify issues and values its customer service. I would definitely do business with NPM&S again. Up to 5 stars.

Fyi: The lady L review, that person works for them! It’s fake. If you are considering this company because it is cheap, I seriously recommend that you reconsider. New Planet was the first moving company I’ve ever used and I wish I never did… First, the company doesn’t tell you about «extra» fees. Luckily these only ran me an extra $ 200, but I only had a small 600 Sq. Ft. Apartment of stuff to ship. I was moving from California to Florida and the company said they had to come on July 22^nd to get my stuff there by August 3^rd. Well the guy who came was 8 hours late, but he was nice enough and had a believable excuse so I chalked the tardiness up to the distance he had to travel. But then everything gets worse after that. They tell you a window of delivery but it’s complete bs. It’s now August 7^th and I don’t have anything. They take your stuff to Nevada and just hold it there for weeks! The last thing we heard we had a new delivery window of August 10^th through the 12^th. Then they called us today saying there’s been «another snag» and they will get back to us on Monday… Not even another delivery date given. They have until August the 20^th before they breach the contact and I will be calling the police to get my belongings back. DO NOT EVER USE THIS COMPANY!

I came to write a good review since people are quick to add bad reviews and I was right! I was surprise to see some of these bad reviews. I guess it’s true what they say in customer service «You cant please everyone no matter what!» I personally had a great experience with New Planet Moving & Storage. They were very professional and curious. The guys went above and beyond. And a BigThanks to my Rep Brandy for taking the time to get this move together… you Rock!

Just got a call from this company after having requested bids through
. When I asked the representative about their terrible Unilocal reviews, she tried to make several excuses.
I have not used this company to move.
The reason why I am writing this review is because after listening to the representative explain away their poor ratings, she asked if I would like to either send an inventory or take pictures for a visual estimate, and when I explained that I would not be using her company, she promptly hung up the phone without another word. It was exceptionally rude considering we spent several minutes on the phone, and her behavior is probably in some way indicative of their customer service generally and how they will treat your possessions.

With confusion about forms not being sent by Fara in the beginning of the arrival of the goids, we weren’t off to a great start. With that said, the items arrived today. The furniture was unscathed. The China was shattered (I should have known better to send China with movers). Omar and his assistant were extremely professional and courteous.

Why oh why didn’t I check Unilocal FIRST? I would have not bothered with theses people if I had! So pretty much had the same bad experience as everyone else had. Yes they do lie and it costs about 1 and a half times what they tell you in their FAKE QUOTE! Hopefully this will help someone else. I don’t have high expectations just do what you say you are going to do when you say you are going to do it… pretty simple… If I wanted aggravation I would of moved the stuff myself. Oh well lesson learned what goes around comes around.

My family and I moved from Southern California to Chicago this past month — our very first cross country move and choosing a moving company terrified me! I did alot of research, comparing 4 different companies, including large corporate ones like Graebel, United Van Lines, and Beltmann Group as well as smaller «online» ones like New Planet Moving and others.
The large corporate ones sent a representative to our home to do an in-​home estimate which according to all the reviews is the most reliable way to go. And I would have chosen Graebel (great customer service and down to earth) if it hadn’t been for the high cost. Actually all the corporate in-​home estimates gave me about the same cost… but the small online companies were significantly more affordable (almost $ 1500-​$ 2000 cheaper).
Out of all the smaller online companies, I decided to go with New Planet Moving because Lauren Alexander was so great and patient with all my skepticism! She answered all my questions about quotes and addressed all my concerns about the negative reviews that they had on Unilocal.Given that, I was still naturally skeptical BUT decided to go with New Planet because of their affordable prices.
Fast forward to the actual move…
The NEGATIVE thing about New Planet is that you need to read the FINE PRINT in the contract. They won’t emphasize it to you verbally but the contract says they have «within 21 days» of the estimated Delivery date they give you, to actually deliver your things. When we called New Planet to confirm the delivery date they gave us (b/​c we needed to buy plan tickets for 3 people), they postponed our delivery date 1 week back. I was upset at first but after reading the contract, I realized they had stated that in the contract so I couldn’t really blame them. So IF you are flexible with the move date, and are okay with being informed of the delivery date in 24 – 72 hours, then this company is great!
The POSITIVE aspect of our move is that we had Carlos and Christopher as our movers, for both pick-​up and delivery! If I could rate just them — I’d give them 5 STARS!
Carlos was the head mover/​driver and Chris is his right hand man. Carlos is very personable and funny. Chris is quiet but a very hard-​worker. They were both efficient and worked very hard… I cannot imagine moving all those things myself up/​down stairs! And they were very careful to package and wrap our large items (baby crib, master bed, sofa, etc). They accounted for all our items. I truly could not have been happier about their moving service.
Some advice — thankfully we didn’t get up-​charged on our things upon delivery. I think what helped us was that instead of doing an online inventory with New Planet (which I assume is always going to be less than the actual weight of stuff), I gave Lauren Alexander the estimated weight that I got from the large corporate In-​home estimates. I assume this is more accurate because those professionals actually did inventory in our home. So that might help you out.
All in all — 5 Stars for Carlos and Chris, the movers. I’d give 3 stars overall for the company… only because of the wide range of delivery dates. Like I mentioned, if you have flexibility (in time and money) for your delivery date, then New Planet would be the company to go with because their overall cost estimate is more economical than the large corporate ones!

I could have easily gone with 2 stars on this but then 3 would be fair too. They definitely weren’t perfect but I could think of a lot worse things that could have happened too. The movers were nice and reasonably professional. The estimate was roughly what was quoted up front. My complaint was that they said they’d be there Saturday AM; I had to call them to learn that it wouldn’t be until Saturday evening around 6pm which eventually got pushed to 9:30 pm on Sat night. I’m not angry at this point since I knew they could only estimate the delivery time. Then they arrived, backed up the truck, door open and got a call from their boss who told them they had to close up the door and go find a weight station because they hadn’t weighed the truck following their last delivery in SD! So I’m exhausted and just want to go to bed but they have to drive off and find a weight station in the city of LA which wasn’t easy because they took nearly 2 hours. They finally got back about 11:15 and they were done by 1:00! Not cool. They did break a lamp shade (old anyway) but also broke a large picture. Luckily it was only the glass but it cost me $ 160 to replace. The manager said he wanted to do something for me because of my bad experience that evening but after I sent him the receipt he never responded. So in summary, I’m sure there’s better out there but certainly could be worse. My frustration was management’s poor decision in my view to close the door and not delivery my stuff because of their screw up in not weighing the truck after the last stop.

NIGHTMARE. AVOID.
New Planet changed my pick-​up date and then showed up four hours late (on the revised date).. . They arrived at 8PM, said it was TOO DARK OUTSIDE for them to complete my move. The poor driver told me he was exhausted and had been working for 13 hours already. He was in no shape to move my belongings.
DO NOT USE THIS SERVICE. THIS COMPANY SHOULD NOT BE IN BUSINESS. I had to cancel a business trip to deal with this mess.

Do not trust this company they are rip off artist .I was told by the mover they do not weight the truck they eyeball it and he can tell the head company what ever he wants to and they will be live him and not the customers if you have 1500 lbs of stuff he can tell them you have 4500 lbs and you are going to get fucked over big time with this company. I had to tell them over and over what to put on the truck. I should have said stop take my stuff off the truck and i find a different company. ill be sending a report to

I just can’t say how heart broken we are.
After all the lies and manipulation and after handing over all our cash and after all the extra hidden fees were paid EVERYTHING came off the truck broken, smashed and completely scratched. At the end of it 3 college kids were left completely broke inwardly and outwardly and New Planet could care less. Multiple hang ups on the phone, threats and lies! One big joke. ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE!!!
I recently lost my mom to cancer and the furniture she left me to start my life without her came off the truck in pieces. Worst choise I could have ever made. If you are smart — go Pods!

NEVER use New Planet Moving and Storage for any move! They are the shadiest company I have ever seen. They cheat their customers and their employees!
I hired them, AFTER being promised a move-​in date no later than 14 business days after my pick-​up date. They also promised they did not contract out and there would be someone from their company overseeing my move every step of the way. They picked up my stuff on July 19. Based on that calculation, I should have had my belongings to me by August 8^th. After they loaded everything onto their truck, they informed me they actually had 21 days (no mention of business days) from my first available move-​in date, which was August 1^st. That pushes the timeline back to August 22 (this date is also on an electronic contract the company sent me).
They also informed me the total I still owed was $ 1000. That was approximately $ 800 more than my original quote was, but they claimed I had 3,500 lbs of stuff. I asked, specifically, if that included everything. I told them I lived on the 3^rd floor and needed to get the exact amount of money out of my bank account in order to pay them, because my bank did not exist in Massachusetts. They assured me $ 1000 was the total. After I was told I was not getting my things by Aug. 8^th, I asked about getting a money order. They said any money order would be fine. So, I got a money order from MoneyGram for the remaining balance.
I called to complain when I was informed last week that I would not have my stuff by Thursday. The company shuffled me around for a while then said they actually had until August 30^th. I then reminded them of my contract which stated I was guaranteed delivery by the 22^nd. After arguing for a while, and being told that I had already been given a discount even though I had a binding estimate (which I did not), the manager stated he would offer me a 20% discount. He also state my things would be delivered either Monday or Tuesday (Aug. 26 or 27). When I spoke to him again yesterday (Tuesday the 27^th) he said the drivers would be to me on Wednesday. He also said he would send me a check for $ 200. I reminded him that my total was almost $ 2500, so 20% was $ 500. He then said it was actually going to be 15% of my remaining balance, plus the $ 50 they charged me for a stop they never made.
I was not happy, but there wasn’t much I could do. They had all of my stuff…
Today (Wed. Aug. 28^th), the driver called and informed me he would be to my apartment around 9 PM. I called to talk to the company again, because that time really was not great for my neighbors or me. They told me they would give me another $ 100 back.
The driver showed up at 9:30. He asked for the money and then preceded to tell me he couldn’t take my money order. He called his boss and reluctantly agreed to take this money order. Next, he said that he charges for moving my stuff up to the third floor. I explained New Planet Moving told me my total and I had no cash. He said he wouldn’t be getting paid because he does not work for New Planet Moving. He at first said that he wouldn’t be moving in my stuff.
Finally, he agreed to move my stuff in, but I feel bad, because I do not think that New Planet Moving will actually pay him for his time.
Long story short, this company is HORRIBLE!!! I am filing a claim against them with the BBB and any other agency I can. I also may be seeking legal counsel, or something similar, if anyone has any suggestions.

Terrible service! The worst I have ever experienced. They should not be a business. They gave me the worst headache of my life. They are rude and inconsiderate. I had to reschedule my flight twice, lost days of work, lost money, and drove me crazy. And they had the audacity to tell me «take it or leave it», when I complained.

Wow, I can completely collaborate the other reviews, except the one that says they actually had a good experience with this company once. I am sure there would be more poor reviews, but in order to file a claim they request that you not post a poor review. My wife signed the paperwork, but I did not. Trust me, this company is quite the piece of work.

First of all let me start off by saying that ‘I wish there were a rating lower than 1 star’
At first I thought I was getting a good deal with New Planet moving; but the day they were supposed to show up, NOBODY CAME. Our moving day was scheduled for Monday with a pickup of our items on Sunday. Nobody in the business notified us that they are closed on the weekends so there is no customer support the entire weekend.
So my wife, family, and I had no clue what to do. I was called the next morning and said that they would be an additional day late… This was unacceptable as I had taken a new job and needed to be across the country in a week. After threatening to just rent a truck myself they showed up… eventually (8 hours late after the re-​negotiated time).
To make matters worse, the arrival at our new house was 10 days late!!! Our boxes were beaten and busted, some items were broken, and a box is still missing. We have called, emailed to get the box tracked but after5 months they have even stopped responding to me!
Save yourself major heartache, don’t even consider this company.

While I had a great experience with New Planet in 2009, using them for my move from Seattle to Denver in summer 2011 did not go as well. They subcontracted my move out to not one, but two different other companies. My bad for not reading the fine print that they could do that. While the people who did my move on both ends did a perfectly good job, New Planet never clarified for me what was going on, so it was hard to figure out where exactly my stuff was. It took almost four weeks for my belongings to reach their destination. They gave me a two-​day pick-​up window, which was nice, but I didn’t know about delivery until less than 24 hours before. The subcontracting also made payment complicated; their instructions say to use an official check, but an official check to a company that’s not actually doing the job themselves doesn’t exactly work. They accept credit cards for the deposit, but require a money order or official check to pay them at the other two points.
If you use New Planet, and they do the move themselves, I think they’re fine. Double-​check to make sure that that’s the case though, because this was too much of a hassle and very not worth it.

Dealing with this company has almost certainly taken years off my life, color out of my follicles, elasticity out of my skin.
They don’t guarantee a delivery date. They don’t guarantee a pickup date. They give you several days to leave unscheduled. Then they call 24 hours before they’re going to show up and give you a time when you have to be at your house. And they might not show up until the day after that.
They charge extra for carrying up more than five stairs (and don’t tell you that ahead of time), as well as mattress covers. They also consolidate everything in Las Vegas, which means that your stuff might just switch trucks after being carted from, say, Chicago to Arizona on its way to Northern California.
In the end, I got all my things. And I’m so happy about it I even considered giving them two stars. But then I think back on every frustrating conversation, every contradiction, every time I really felt baited-​and-​switched… And I just can’t do it. I don’t know if there are any really *good* moving companies out there, but I would so much rather take my chances with almost any other company than use New Planet again.

I contracted New Planet Moving to move my furniture from Houston to San Jose. I contacted several companies to get competitive pricing and favorable terms. I work in Contract Management, so I am quite used to reading the terms and conditions for the Contract. New Planet Moving ‘s quote and terms seemed reasonable to me, so I signed an agreement with them to move my furniture. The sales person promised me that that they would perform the move themselves, instead of subcontracting the work and my stuff would be stored in their climate controlled warehouse in NV. One of my criteria to select the moving company was use a company that performed the move themselves. In this business, there is a lot of subcontracting and your stuff can be loaded and unloaded on trucks several times and since this is not their stuff, they really don’t care about ensuring the safety of your stuff. Another reason to select them was that since they have a warehouse in NV, the delivery would be much faster as it is comparatively closer to CA than TX.
The salesperson was really nice and responsive initially. She also said that their minimum was 2000 Lbs and my estimate was at 1500 lbs so I would add additional 500 lbs at no cost, if I wanted. Once I paid my deposit everything was downhill from that point forward. Everything that she told me was a lie.
On the day of the move, someone from a totally different company (Houston Movers R’US) shows. The foreman, who barely spoke English, took two steps into my living room and started saying that I had too much stuff and that I would have to pay more money to move everything. I have never seen such rehearsed and poorly delivered sales pitch. I mean literally this guy took two steps, and started his rant about too much furniture. I lived in a two bed room apartment, and he was still in the entry foyer! So first, he took out his agreement and wanted me to sign his agreement for the move. BTW this agreement was totally different than the one I had signed up for. The original agreement did not have any elevator charge; the additional fee applied after 75ft not 50ft and was $ 2.5 per 100lbs instead of $ 75 for every additional 50ft. So I had to read the contract with him line by line and cancel/​change all the terms to the ones I had originally agreed to. PLEASE NOTE, CHECK THE TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF THE CONTRACT THAT YOU SIGN ON THE DAY OF THE MOVE, THESE TEND TO CHANGE FROM THE ONLINE QUOTE TO ACTUAL SIGNED DOCUMENT ON THE DAY OF THE MOVE, the one you sign on the day of the move supersedes the ones you previously signed.
After loading all my stuff, the foreman spends some time on calculations to account of extra items and tell me that I owe him an additional $ 1100. Then he gives me another spill from his «sales» speech, about how I seem to be a nice guy and he will like to work with me, so he will cut me a great deal and round it off to $ 1000. Seriously! So I asked him to show me how he calculated the additional $ 1100. So he started explaining his calculations and then says that he made a mistake. He calculated the additional weight and multiplied it by the rate for additional cubic ft, instead of additional weight rate ($ 0.79 per lb). So now the new number for additional charges was $ 600After reviewing the items he had included in the additional list, I reminded him that I still have about 500lbs that I can add at no additional cost. So he had to revise his numbers again, now I was 1 lbs over the 2000lbs limit. So there were no additional charges. But this entire experience was horrible. New Planet Moving never showed up, they subcontracted this work to another company which was not what they promised. The company that showed up to load my stuff was completely unprofessional and wanted to squeeze additional money right from the get go.
Delivery is another story, but by this time New Planet Moving completely washed their hands of this contract and told me to directly talk to their «sister» company Houston Mover R’US.
