History

Established in 1921.

Swedish emigrant Carl Strom arrived at Ellis Island and accepted an offer to fight for the United States in World War I in exchange for citizenship. Returning from war he moved west, gaining experience in the pest control industry along the way. In 1921, with nothing but a desk, a phone, $ 25, and a vision he believed would become reality, he started Western Exterminator Company based on quality customer service at a fair price and treating people like family .

With his personal touch and care for customers, Western thrived and Carl soon added a partner– his brother-​in-​law, Ray Lovejoy. Their commitment to exceeding customer expectations enabled them to continue solid growth. Shortly after the close of World War II, Western expanded to Northern California. Western’s team moved into Arizona in 1971 and then to Nevada in 1995. Today, Western’s «Little Man with the Hammer» is a well-​known and respected icon, still representing quality service at a fair price.
