Generally QT’s are clean, there were caution wet floor signs around cut the floors were dry and really dirty. I guess the morning rush of people were slobs and the workers were getting ready to mop. And the trash at the condiment area was full. Not as clean as usual but not bad. One big plus about the workers are they are friendly, and seem to be well trained. You can ask directions and they know what street they work on. Not like other stations when you ask directions they don’t even know the names of the streets around them.

It was while buying gas at the QT in Roanoke that I saw the sign for«Hot Pretzels Now Available.» Now I seriously like a good hot pretzel, so I was excited to try them. I did not go in the first time(I was in a hurry). And the second time, at the same Roanoke QT, I walked in, looked around, did not see them, so I left(I was in a hurry then too). Well this past week I was at Harbor Freight next door, and knowing that this QT is one of the new style QTs(with the smoothie and coffee bar), I decided to stop in to see if they have the soft pretzels… And the did. What’s cool, and I suppose this is true of anything from the coffee/smoothie bar, is that you order via a touch screen(hence the reason I did not see the pretzels on my previous attempt). I touched my way to a classic pretzel and was even given the option for salt(yes please) or no salt. The last option was for complementary sauces, and the list included marinara, queso and I think frosting. The sauces probably work better with the other pretzel flavor choices, which include Parmesan or cinnamon and sugar. After finishing your choices the machine prints a ticket, which you take to the front to pay. A pretzels sells for $ 2.49. A couple minutes later my pretzel was ready. It was large, hot, fresh and delicious. The dough was a little sweet, like an Auntie Anne’s pretzel. I did not think the sweetness of the dough worked particularly well with the salt and yellow mustard, so next time(near future I’m sure) I’m going for the cinnamon and sugar(and a side of the frosting). PS. I thought I took a picture of it, but now I can’t find it… But it’s a BIG thick pretzel, easily larger than my hand. Picture for sure next time.
