Our philosophy of practice is to provide our patients and clients with the very highest principles and standards of general modern medicine, surgery, dentistry, and hospitalization. We do this in a compassionate, family-​like environment with personal attention to our clients’ and their companions’ emotional needs.

We are proud inductees of the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA). Having undergone evaluation for more then 900 parameters, we are accredited as being in the top 12% of veterinary hospitals in the country.

Our cutting edge in-​house laboratory services, diagnostic aids, superior patient monitoring systems, and therapeutics are second to only the region’s largest specialty hospitals! Our in house laboratory provides complete blood count, chemistry, electrolyte, blood gas, and blood clotting analysis. Our patients are routinely monitored under the highest of standards including pulse oximetry, electrocardiogram, blood pressure, capnography, and temperature.

That’s the nickname we’ve earned here at the North King Animal Clinic. We first opened our doors in 1976, when Dr. Nancy Lewis Owen began the small vet clinic to serve Western Mass residents and their companions throughout the Pioneer Valley.

Meet the Business Owner

Nancy O.

Business Owner

Dr. Nancy Lewis Owen is the owner and sole practitioner of the North King Animal Clinic. Dr. Owen was born in Newton, MA and received a B.A. degree from Smith College in 1970. She then preceded on to graduate with a veterinary medical doctorate (V.M.D.) from the University of Pennsylvania in 1974. She has been practicing veterinary medicine in Northampton since 1974 and has been the sole owner of the North King Animal Clinic since 1976.

Dr. Owen married Matthew Owen in 1985. Together they have one son, Brandon, who is currently attending college. Her professional interests include general medicine and surgery. In her free time, Dr. Owen enjoys karate and change ringing.

At present, the Owen family has 3 wonderful therapy dogs: Chelsea, Carter, and Joy; 5 cats: Bill, Hillary, Nomar, Daphne, and Bailey; as well as 2 cats that live at the clinic: Romeo and Martin.
