We have used American Weathermakers for years. We have found them to be extremely honest, and their pricing is not unreasonable for the area. Whenever there was an issue they were extremely responsive.
We had a tough situation trying to set up a second furnace in a crawlspace for zone heat under a large room that American Weathermakers calculated to use 24,000 BTUs just for that room alone. We got three different proposals and each proposal was vastly different based on the way the zone would be set up. We decided that the American weather makers proposal was most detailed and most feasible. They also went to lengths to be able to make the existing ducting work, which saved hugely. So we went with it. I can tell you after having that second furnace installed for five years now, it runs beautifully, and our heating bill actually went down having two furnaces instead of one. We were very concerned about the added heating cost of having two furnaces, and Weathermakers assured us that the heating bill probably would not go up. So imagine how great we thought it was when our heating bill actually went down!

My furnace didn’t work right so we called these guys based on their radio ads. I have used another company, but decided to try American Weathermakers. I won’t make that mistake again. I called to have a guy come out. Since it is beginning of February, it is cold. The lady on the phone said they would be out before noon. I called at 7:45 am. When he got to my house, he had a bad attitude, didn’t smile and looked like his job sucked. He diagnosed the issue and said he had to order the part. It would be $ 800 and take a few days. I was to be without heat for a few days in February. He then said he could go pick it up that day, but it would be an additional $ 300. Are you serious??? I paid the diagnostic fee and politely asked him to leave. My other company came out that afternoon WITH the part and charged me half of what these guys were going to.
Summary: American Weathermakers are not 60 minute men, they have bad attitudes and WAY overcharge. Don’t use these guys.

They replace my furnace 1−½ years ago and I was very happy with them so I called when my AC was making a loud noise and not cooling very well. The technician was nice but said the Freon was empty and I needed a new unit. AM quoted me $ 4,000-$ 5,200 for a new 2−½ ton unit (30,000 BTU), coil and line depending on what energy rating I wanted.
I called another company for a second estimate. The technician from the second company said the Freon was below the freeze line but not that low and the leaking was at the unit not in the line so they filled it up the Freon and it worked fine. I had an older unit (20+ years) so I had them quote me for a new 2−½ ton unit, coil and line which was $ 2,500, granted it was at the low end of the efficiency scale (13 – 14.5 SEER).
AM lost a customer and a sale since the technician didn’t give me a full diagnosis of the AC and only tried to push me to a new system.

phoned for service at 915am on 1÷1÷15 as no hot air coming out — called again at 115
when i got home home from job (i told them i would be home by 1pm) as no response from tech — he finally arrived about 5pm which is overtime for them as he told me in addition to holiday rates-​which they dont reveal to you until after the service call — the csr on the phone, each time, advises the tech will reveal pricing; in two separate efforts to persuade them to reduce their $ 311 charge as the radio ads state they will be there in 60 mins or the client receives a $ 60 gift card towards future services AND that theres no overtime or trip charge-​they refused — the mngr i spoke to (bart?) was very close to belligerent — as the tech had little to do since the gas jets were on (he was surprised it was working) and he suggested it needed a cleaning (altho this was already done in october by another company) so i suspect the time spent was deliberately drawn out as he relayed much of his life history since he had so little to do — still unclear what the issue actually was– do NOT use this company unless you like to overpay and then deal with horrific customer service

AWM has a nice staff and good price quotes. I always compare quotes, and AWM consistently is lower or on par with other services. A/​C was a constant issue in one of my buildings and AWM has helped me get to the point where I haven’t had to call them for an issue in over a year now.

Once again American Weathermakers came to the rescue (hence my second review), this time for my furnace.
My tenant called last night at 2 am, it’s cold (like 7 degrees), the furnace is out, his kids are crying, his wife is threatening divorce and the dog is going to bite him and it’s all my fault. Bottom line get it fixed now or they are going to a hotel and want me to pay for it.
So a frantic call to American Weathermakers (these guys should wear capes) and a tech is at my rental property in an hour, and has things going shortly there after.
My tenant is happy (his dog is calm, his wife is not leaving and the kids have stopped crying), so I’m happy.

AW came out in less than 3 hours and solved my problem without costing me a fortune. Thanks AW! :)

I just had an air conditioning unit installed and they were great! They explained everything I needed for my place, when they came out, they were polite and professional and Stephen assisted me with the whole process. He even took the time to give me tips on how I can manage the unit best to keep my energy bills in check. So I’m glad to have a working AC unit to round out the summer and stay comfortable while I’m at home. Thanks guys!

So again with the moving and everything going wrong at the last minute…
So it’s 11pm and the power goes out (not a usual thing without a storm) and I didn’t think anything of it… until the next, hot, blistering, mid-​July, only-​2-​days-​to-​have-​a-​house-​clearing-​moving-​sale, day… when I realize the more I crank my AC up, the more nothing happens. Low and behold… someone stole the condenser! YES. That’s a thing. They backed up in a truck… cut the power (ohhhh that’s what that was!) and lifted my whole AC unit off into the netherlands of scrap-​parting or whatever the heck you do w/​a huge box of metal.
What to do? Call American Weathermakers. They were super understanding and friendly and had someone out the next day to give me an estimate. For insurance purposes I had to get 2 quotes and they came in well below the competition.
Not too long after I was back to sweater-​weather in July in my apt. Just in time to move out and leave the cool to the next owners.
Regardless, everyone was really friendly and they even offered to bolt down the unit for me at no additional charge!

American Weathermakers truly is the best in the business. Every aspect of their service was superior. I wanted to make sure that my AC was in working order before the summer, so I scheduled a visit from their technicians. Thank you for sending Frank. We got the best HVAC service because of how knowledgeable he was. We were quoted a highly competitive price and the visit was short and sweet. Filters were replaced and Frank did some routine cleaning and maintenance and our AC is now running more smoothly than when it was first installed. Thank goodness, because it has been quite a hot and humid July!
I will definitely continue to turn to this company for maintenance and repairs of any of my HVAC systems. The high caliber of work and friendly service is worth it!

So my husband joined the «Comfort Club» the last couple of years. The idea is that if you pay up front, the services for the year are covered.
Guess what? We joined in the spring, after our spring check-​up. IT WAS A CALENDAR YEAR. We essentially paid double for fall only. It was only AFTER the spring visit was concluded (and the bill presented) that they told us it wasn’t covered, even though they called and made the appointment by referencing «Comfort Club.»
PLEASE be careful if you choose these guys. They already cost an arm and a leg, so I strongly recommend you avoid the whole «Comfort Club» thing like the plague.

Total rip off. They were polite on the telephone and a technian came out on time (which is why I gave it 2 stars instead of 1). They charged a couple of hundred bucks for a basic scheduled visit (which is way too much, I later found out). Rather than trying to fix the problem, their recommendation was to replace the whole unit. I’m lucky I called another company and got a second opinion.

Horrible customer service. Horrible workmanship. Save yourself the frustration and call someone else!

I recommend you stay away from these people, they are nothing but bad news. I think the previous reviewers got the point across.

I can’t believe the reviews… this company quoted me a price that was FAR BELOW ($ 1,200) the nearest price (Four Seasons). My new furnace has my home comfortable for the first time in over 20 years. They put in a much smaller unit than I had and it so quiet I can’t tell that it is on most of the time.
The Technicians that came out for the Installation (Anthony and Victor) Really knew their stuff and completed the job in about 5 hours and they left the area cleaner than it was before they arrived.
I would recommend them very Highly!

Like Jerry S., it took a long time and over a dozen service calls to get our situation fixed, only to find out a year later that there were further issues.
Nothing worse than being pregnant during a heatwave in Chicago and not having air conditioning. Except for being treated like crap from a company that you end up spending almost five grand with.
The service technicians were all polite and on-​time, so they do deserve the minimum one star but that’s where the niceties end from me. I’m not sure if they’re lower level employees are untrained or just completely inept, but the first few technicians misdiagnosed the issue. Finally one determined that it was a coil that needed to get replaced. The coil cost almost two thousand dollars and the tech that came to install it literally gave up during the installation process. He left our basement in disarray and smelling like burnt hair from trying to solder the coil. So we went from having minimal A/​C to no A/​C and were told that they needed another part and would not be back for five days. When I called them back to let them know this was unacceptable, I was treated very rudely by the appointment scheduler who had a «what do you want me to do about it» attitude.
When they did return, they were able to replace the coil, but still the temperature in our townhouse did not drop. I called them to return and they sent out several additional technicians over the course of a few weeks and were still unable to diagnose the issue. Finally they sent a senior technician over. He was like the Mr. Wolf of air conditioning and knew what the problem was as he walked up to our front door. The actual unit was leaking. He opened the unit and showed me where the leak was happening. So now, we needed to spend another $ 2,500 to get the unit replaced and a new thermostat. Finally we were back in business.
Or so we thought. Temperature still was not dropping. As it turned out they didn’t install the thermostat correctly. Seriously? I can install a thermostat. Why can’t a professional do it?

It took a long time — more than two years — several service calls and a fair amount of money„ but my A/​C unit is now working fine. We recently had several days in the 90s and high 80s and it was very comfortable in our unit.
My earlier comments are as true today as they were when I wrote them. But getting different service personnel involved made all the difference. Steve, whose note appears below, was professional in his dealings. The technician, Frank, who we were worked with the most was knowledgeable and, more importantly, dogged in working with us to resolve the issue. It took several calls, but the causes for our complaints were found and corrected.
As noted, we’ve used American Weathermakers for a decade or so and never had a significant problem until this situation — which was major and took two years to resolve.
But, with a different service manager and technician, it was ultimately resolved and I am satisfied. They lived up to their promise of customer satisfaction.

I’m drafting a letter right now informing these folks that we’re headed for court after their Service Manager hung up on me. Seems he didn’t like my questions about his telling me that we shouldn’t set the thermostat lower than 70 with the over-​sized $ 5,000 air conditioning unit they installed last year. Apparently my asking for documentation to that effect irritated him as did my questioning about whether or not his installers would have checked for proper airflow when the unit was put in. (He told me no: they were there to just install the unit.)
We’ve actually used these folks for 10 or more years and never had a problem. We were on a contract most of that time for annual inspections and had a few service calls on a decades old unit.
The new unit, supposedly with greater capacity, simply hasn’t worked well. We had doubts earlier this summer, thinking an exceptionally hot spell may have just been too much. But it’s 60 degrees outside right now — and 78 inside. The unit has not been working right all week.
Their Service Manager offered to come out for a free «pre» service call assessment, but when I started asking questions about his statements, such as the unit not being able to deal with thermostat set temperatures of less than 70, he got nasty and finally hung up. Their corporate President is, unsurprisingly, unreachable. Instead they tell me to go back to the guy who hung up on me and has left me in the lurch for service.
These people are bad news when it comes to supporting the equipment they sell. I would not recommend them.
N.B: The person who hung up on me just called and said they were sending a serviceman this evening. We’ll see what the outcome is. As it stands, I am not a happy camper with regard to this company and am quite disturbed by statements that the $ 5,000 air conditioning unit will likely fail if the thermostat is set to lower than 70 degrees and that the installers checked only the unit itself for proper operation.

Well they made it back out (eventually) but I also called a bunch of other places in the meantime.
Their technician said there could be a leak and that it would cost ~$ 300 to check and if they found the leak (in the coils where it was most likely to be) it would be about $ 1300 more to fix. I told them to forget it– I knew there was a leak (DUH!) and didn’t need to give them another $ 300 for them to tell me that. I mean they could have at least offered the test free seeing as they effed up last time and already had my money.
So now we are looking to replace the system because it is so old and uses the old and terrible freon. We got a quote from American Weathermakers, but even though the price looks OK, I just can’t trust that they will do a good job based on how they handled this and the «knowledge» of their technicians.
I’m sticking with AVOID on this one.
