Pete The Painter

I have been using Pete the Painter services for over 20 years. Pete has painted my homes and has done a great job in the timeframe promised very pleased with the services. I am also in real estate and have referred Pete the Painter to many of my clients and always very positive response. It makes me feel good when I can refer to a contractor and not worry about the quality of the work in the time the work is completed.

Pete the Painter just painted the entire exterior of our house, and we couldn’t be happier. He’s terrific to deal with, because unlike so many other service businesses, he does exactly what he says he’s going to do, exactly when he says he’s going to do it. Having been disappointed by many previous companies we’ve hired over the years, it was a real pleasure to have such an aggravation-​free experience with Pete, who is, by the way, a very nice guy. The painters who work for him are professional, courteous and diligent. But the best part, aside from our house looking great, is that Pete has a policy of never leaving a job until it’s finished. Once his crew starts your job, you don’t have to keep praying that they’ll show up each day; they will.

It was time to once again paint some of the walls in our house. We are planning to put the house up for sale soon, and we wanted some rooms to be repainted professionally. The job would require removing a lot of ancient wallpaper, refinishing the walls, and doing some ceiling repair.
My wife works for the Village of Northbrook, which has used Pete to do a lot of its work, and she says that his company has done a very good job working on V of NB structures. We chose his company because he was very professional, knew a lot about the chemistry of paint, and had many good suggestions to get the house to look good.
The job was done by one of his painters, who worked very hard: the man came in each morning at about 7:30 and remained working for 12 hours each day! The work was done very neatly, the painter properly covered and moved furniture and had an excellent work ethic. Everything was covered with plastic wrap and kept very clean.
There was a minor snag which was fixed within a day. When the painter was removing some old wallpaper, he got some water into an electrical switch which blew the circuit breaker and — ZAP and POOF! — simultaneously rendered the switch unusable. Pete replaced the damaged switch the very next day.
In summary, he did a good professional job that satisfied us, and we plan to ask him to come back to do some additional work just before the house is officially put on the market.
We have a big cathedral ceiling (with a wall crack) in our great room. I am going to ask him to paint either the Last Judgment or Last Supper on the wall of our cathedral ceiling. If he paints this, do you think the image will last?

Pete the Painter has been our family’s go to painter for over 40 years. They do the job on time, on budget and clean up before they leave. I always recommend them to my friends and neighbors.

I never write reviews but my experience with Pete has been so awful I have to do anything I can to warn others… DO NOT USE PETE THE PAINTER!!! We hired Pete to paint the entire interior of our new home before we moved in. We needed the job done in a week and Pete assured us that he could have it done. Told us he would have a crew of 4 – 5 guys here everyday. First day two guys showed up and all I got was a handful of excuses from Pete. Second day again… two guys and more excuses. In the end the job took over two weeks, we had to postpone our moving date and all the other details that go along with that because of Pete the Painter. At that point I figured stuff happens, not a big deal and at least it’s being done right. Oh how I was mistaken. About six months later I noticed flecks of white paint stuck on my floor. We soon realized the paint was peeling off all the baseboards and when my cleaning lady mopped the floor, her mop would brush against the wall (which is totally normal) and the paint would come off and stick to the mop and then stick to my floor. Upon further inspection and numerous opinions from other local painters we came to the conclusion that none of the proper prep work was done. They did not sand, prime properly or use the correct type of paint and now every baseboard, piece of trim and door in my house has peeling paint. We have contacted Pete numerous times. He refuses to admit any fault in this situation and all he can give us are more and more excuses. He offered to «touch-​up» the spots that are peeling but what good will that do? He blamed my cleaning lady for using the wrong kind of mop (she cleans five other people’s homes that I know and this has not happened in their houses.) He then told me that was normal «wear and tear.» After six months? I don’t think so. And finally he told me he would be happy to redo everything but it would cost me the same as it would anybody else. Seriously? If I’m going to pay someone to fix it do you really think I am going to pay him to do it??? After that we decided to just chalk it up to «we got screwed» and move on. And I told myself I would do everything in my power to make sure nobody else gets screwed like we did. So, if your considering using Pete the Painter please do yourself a favor and don’t. Run in the other direction… fast!!!

If you are looking for quality, Pete the Painter is the company to use. I have the pickiest wife in Chicago land and she was blown away with the job they did for us. They showed up exactly when promised, did a perfect job, and cleaned up after themselves every day. We couldn’t be happier.

We used Pete the Painter to make improvements to the interior of my office and were very pleased. Pete listened to us and made suggestions regarding the walls and lighting. His workers were professional. They did their work in a reasonable period of time. They were courteous to me and my employees and made an effort to not interrupt our work flow. Pete stopped by daily to monitor the work and to check in with us to make sure we were happy. I was very happy with the work that was done, and have been getting compliments from my clients on a daily basis. I will definitely be using Pete the painter for any future projects.
