Sur La Table Cooking Class

A 2 day Cooking class for about 14 kids ages 8 and up. First day was pasta and tiramisu. Day 2 was Mexican corn and cheese tamales and flan for dessert.
Looked like everyone had a lot of fun making the food and learning to use the tools and the ovens.
Cost was $ 100 per child for the 2 days. A little expensive, but it is Northbrook. 2 hours and 15 minutes each day. Looked worth it after all.
The cooking area itself was beautiful. Professional equipment plus large mirror to see the preparation action. To see the cooktop there is a large video screen.
No one in the class looked at all disappointed or grumpy so must have been a success.

When planning a corporate team outing, I decided to try the cooking class at Sur La Table Northbrook. Our group of 10 had a great time — there were so many classes to choose from, but we settled on homemade pizza. The chef, Carolyn, was a great teacher and gave us lots of tips and tricks. Of course, everything you use in the class is available for purchase in the store, and they give you a coupon for any same day purchases, but it wasn’t super sales-​y. The class was fun, and the homemade pizzas were delicious. I only wish I had taken notes as a lot of the little tips were not included in the recipe cards we took home.
I would definitely take more cooking classes here!

The store itself is great and I was actually very surprised at the prices. I’ll admit that I pre-​judged this location as I figure being in an upscale mall the prices would also be upscale. HOWEVER, to my pleasant surprise, there were a lot of things where the prices are very reasonable. Which is dangerous, because now I’ll be coming back here on a regular basis.
This is the type of store that you can come into several times and still see something which you didn’t see the last time you were there. There is just a lot of cool, unique things in this store… from simple, tiny gadgets to full blown top of the line kitchen aid mixer or top of the line cutlery.
As for the training class, it was well organized and lots of fun! The class got the main points across without being overly done (pun intended) and also left room for some nice socializing. You can bet you’ll see me signing up for more classes here! Not to mention you may catch me browsing around from my new new kitchen gadget.

I took a macaron class here recently, and I have been scouring the calendar online now frequently to see what other classes to sign up for.
The hands-​on classes are well organized — we had 3 groups of 4 in the class, and everyone got to practice every crucial steps especially the beating/​whisking and piping. We had Chef Susan Taves and she was thorough, giving us an enriching lesson in culture, theory and technique.
For $ 69, the class is about 3 hours long. It is well spent, and I left feeling extremely confident of executing it solo.
