On site, same hour engraving at its finest and very affordable. Scott did a wonderful job engraving a watch for my husband for our anniversary.

I recall that they used to be in the Mallers Building and heard they had moved out. Yesterday I called to see if they could engrave an itouch quickly. Scott Kurtz, the owner, was professional, effective and efficient. He did the engraving while I waited and it came out better than I expected. The charge was very reasonable and I know i will return. While I was waiting, I noticed there were some very beautiful crystal pieces in his office for reasonable prices as well. I strongly recommend them.

Wow! Super helpful, friendly, accommodating, convenient, quick and inexpensive! Literally– all of those things. And the end product was even better than I had imagined.
I needed to have a toaster engraved for a wedding gift. I dropped off the toaster at the convenient loop drop-​off location, and I’ll be honest, I was a little nervous just handing over a $ 70 toaster without getting some sort of work order receipt, but the entire situation worked out wonderfully. Highly recommend for ANY engraving needs. Just call Scott and I’m sure he’ll at least answer any questions you have.

I’ve sought the engraving help of United Crystal twice when looking to personalize some wedding gifts — once last fall for an intricate monogram engraving on a steel wine cooler; and most recently for another, even more intricate monogram engraving on a glass carafe. Both times, they provided a perfect end product — exactly what I wanted — and did it quickly and with a smile. (**They’ve also offered the lowest rate I’ve found for these services in Chicago)

Sadly, United Crystal has closed its location in the Loop and only has a location in the north suburbs (847). Getting an inexpensive watch battery in the Loop now is like getting a bad haircut, it’s hit or miss. I’ve had to have the battery in my watch changed twice in a year because the jeweler has been using old batteries.

I had two watches that needed new batteries — I took them to Macy’s and they wanted $ 40 to replace a battery for a waterproof watch and $ 15 for a regular watch.
I brought them to United Crystal and they charged me $ 10 for both watches! whoo hoo!

I don’t get a lot of things engraved, but it’s so nice to know that when I need something done it’ll be done quick and done well.
I love that they can engrave in Greek also. Most places can only do the Greek capital letters, but since Tommy does the engraving by hand he can do lower case Greek as well.

I’m not sure how anyone could miss the very large sign stating their hours etched into the glass on their door (see the only other review of this shop on Unilocal). I’ve never had any issues with this company and infact this is simply the best engraving shop in the city of chicago, they engrave for all of the high end jewelers in the city (tiffany, cartier, etc). and the same day service can’t be beat. If your able to make it down to the maller building you’ll not only save a ton of money over the retail mark up, and you’ll also be treated to the only by hand only engraving company in the chicago land area (which is a huge plus since machine engraving onto complex curves always has spacing issues, ie inside of ring bands etc). Overall I would recommend this shop to anyone who needs the best service possible for the best price. A+++

Bonus points because they saved my ass. Minus points because it’s kind of their fault it needed saving.. .
twice a year I take a medallion to be engraved with our commencement speaker’s name. Two lines of ½ inch high text is between $ 7 and $ 10. So the prices are pretty good. Service is fine, though they don’t really go out of their way and the space is pretty drab. But they have never messed up an order.
So back to my ass and how it needed saving. In case you havent noticed — it’s arctic out there. I’d been putting off and putting off leaving the warm comfort of my office to trudge outside and to the Maller’s building where the store is located (I hate that building! I have been stuck in the elevators more than 5 times in the last year!). Since today was the day I was supposed to go pick it up, I finally decided to drop it off yesterday. I got there at 4:10 and found that to my suprise, they were closed.
FYI — the hours are 8am — 4pm and they only take cash!
So I was in first thing this morning and hoped to have it done while I waited. Nope, the engraver wasn’t in yet. So I dropped it off and came back about 3 hours later, to find it perfectly done.
Yes, it’s my fault. I should have dropped it off earlier, so I thank them for having such quick turn around. But how about posting some hours on the door?
