Fried chicken was delicious! Ribs moist and sweet… Corn bread was average but yams were like candy. Black eyed peas okay too but overall you can’t eat the price… Two meals for $ 30…

Very good overall experience. A nice selection of bbq and sides. The pulled pork sandwich was excellent, french fries a little soggy, though.

It’s definitely good. We checked it out on a Sunday evening, didnt call in ahead and everything was fresh. We did the chicken wings combo, fried whiting, collard greens, blackeyed peas and cole slaw. Had to try the potato salad and banana puddin because Im southern. Service was very friendly, you get on the spot free soda for checking in on facebook. I get the prices are a little high, but there is a real lack of competition of places like this(plz the diner is not comparable people), so I understand. Wish they had fried okra! You’d see the southern coming out of the woodworks with that on the menu.

Great soul food. Good portions, extensive menu, and delicious homemade desserts. I waited months to leave a review for this place because I wanted to give them a chance to work out the kinks. When Miss Barbara Jean’s first opened in November 2014, the wait for food was long. I called ahead for my food, and it still took 45 minutes to be ready. Now, I was told 15 minutes, and the food was ready in exactly 15 minutes. My favorite dish is the grilled tilapia with white rice and two sides. Their macaroni and cheese, collard greens, and candied yams are very good. Their strawberry lemonade is also tasty. I bought their banana pudding in multiples… I think I bought 6 at one time. It’s that good. You can’t eat in, but call ahead for pickup or ask for delivery if you’re in Norwalk.

Whenever I hear soulfood in CT I jump… For starters, as I expected it was pretty pricey just around $ 17.00 for a combo platter and banana pudding and no drink. Food. I ordered the pork chop combo platter which comes with rice and two sides. The rice to me was pointless if I had the option to get two dollars off my bill or get rice I would choose the $ 2 no gravy no nothing just plain white rice. The candied yams were out of this world, and so was the baked macaroni and cheese. The pork chop could have been fried maybe a minute longer but overall good. As far as the banana pudding there are so many variations that you would have to decide on your own. But it’s good The cornbread in my opinion was not that great, they usually associate small pieces of corn bread to be the best but this was just a bag filler. Not a place that you will bring a date to as there is no seating. And yes I will return

Love this place! Delicious smothered pork chops, fried chicken wings and I love the Mac and cheese on the side! I can’t wait to try some of the other menu options! The people are very friendly and nice to talk to while you wait for your food if you don’t call ahead! Only reason I gave it four stars is I never know where to park when I’m picking up my order!

I would have taken pictures of the food, but we ate it too fast. I was pretty happy to find this place so close by but even happier once I got the food in the car and smelled the aromas(but make no mistake, they also deliver). My wife is from northern Florida so she has some idea of quality soul food and she concurs. We got some fried shrimp, smothered pork chops, fried chicken wings, collard greens and phenomenal mac’n’cheese. First of all $ 1.50/wing? Yes please and thank you; and we’re talking the whole damn wing and not just some skimpy buffalo wing. The gravy on the tender pork chop? The flavor of the greens? Look, I could go on and on but it’s basically all fantastic and I can’t wait to go back. We live walking distance to Mama’s Boy and it’s great for a certain Southern experience(especially Sunday brunch). But for some great quality local soul food at a more than reasonable price? This can’t be beat.

Went and picked up food for our family tonight… and I must say not bad! I got the mini meal of fried whiting: the 3 small pieces were flavored well and nicely crispy. The white rice with black eyed peas was good too, even though the peas were slightly burned… the corn bread a tad too sweet for me, but overall good for a $ 6.50 meal! The kids got the chicken wings combos. 3 large crispy wings, fries, Mac n cheese, white rice and corn bread. Instead of the complimentary white rice, I would give complimentary veggies, to keep it a little healthier, but the kids liked it a lot and worth the $ 9.50 per meal. My husband got the ribs combo, once again it came with rice and cornbread, plus two sides(he got Mac n cheese and yams). Mac n cheese was ok, candied yams was delicious! He liked it, but would have loved more meat. ¼ slab of bbq ribs didn’t quite fill him up… and for $ 13.50, they could have given ½ slab… but the flavor was good! We will definitely come back!

Loved, Loved Loved the Barbecue. the best i ever had. cant even explain why. Loved, Loved, Loved the corn bread stuffing. better than corn itself. It was worth the trip from South Norwalk.
