Shave It

Quite possibly some of the best shaved ice I’ve had in a very long time! I usually only get shaved ice when I go to Hawaii, but I will definitely will be coming back!

Because Unilocal and google both say this location closesat 10pm my daughter and I decided to take the long 1 hour drive here to be quickly disappointed with them being closed. Shave it please correct your hours shown on google and Unilocal to avoid people wasting their time driving to your location.

Shave It is the best thing since sliced bread! My family and I have been hooked since they opened. My first visit I had no idea what to order and I was a bit overwhelmed with all the options. But once I tasted the ice cream/​shaved ice concoction I became a fan.
We go to Shave It just because… But we have also designated it as a fun place to meet up after my daughters games. She and all her team go there for a fun treat and a time to celebrate after every sweet victory!

When you want something that’s different from your standard scoop of ice cream, there are only a few options available. Luckily, Shave It offers a unique, cold treat to satisfy the most persnickety dessert lovers out there.
Located on the corner of Studebaker Road and Firestone Blvd, «Shave It» is nestled between a shoe store and a hearing aid supplier. The exterior of the building doesn’t seem to give much of a hint as to what’s in store when you walk inside. It’s very plain with a few descriptors of what they offer. However once those doors open, you might be a bit surprised.
First of all, there’s a large floor mat that immediately grabs your attention. This mat has gel inside and the pressure of your weight makes the color spread out in different directions. It mimics the ocean waves crashing along the beach on a high surf advisory day!
Like most shaved ice places, their practices seem pretty standard. There are a couple of ice shaver machines in which a large block of ice is shaved down and condensed into the form of a large snowball. If you want to keep it simple, the menu offers various flavors of sweet syrup to give your snowball a unique taste. When they coat your snowball with syrup, you’ll see them using a wand-​like device that has several buttons. These buttons are linked to specific flavored syrups which make it easier for their employees to get your order right. Just like most shaved ice establishments, you can elect to have ice cream placed at the bottom of the ice and on top or you can get a whole serving of shaved ice.
The question is: What makes «Shave It» stand out among the other shaved ice competitors? The answer lies within their ever-​changing menu that is written on the mirrors of the shop. There seems to be at least 30 combinations of shaved ice and ice cream. Each one is given a name like North Slope, Hot Fudge Sundae, Dodgers, and Calypso. Even if you don’t see a combination that appeals to you, once you describe your own creation, chances are that it’s similar to what’s displayed somewhere on the mirrors.
Some people may be wondering if this place is actually that great. I am here to tell you that it won’t let you down! They are generous with their syrups and the ice doesn’t lose its flavor. The ice cream compliments the shaved ice very well. Serving sizes are quite generous as the small size shaved ice is larger than the cup that’s on display. Each bite is sweet to the taste and although the syrup seems to gravitate toward the bottom of the cup, you never lose flavor.
Shave It is a great addition to the city of Norwalk! It provides customers with a product that is different from its competitors’ selections. If you’re in the mood for something cold and tasty, stop by Shave It to see what the hype is about!

Pretty cool establishment! It looks like a hole in the wall kind of place but just the same it’s a hidden gem. It’s not your typical shaved ice place. They offer a ton of combinations that include shaved ice and ice cream. If you don’t see anything you like from their regular menu, they do have a couple more set ups on mirrors. If that still doesn’t do it for you then try to create your own. Either way the staff is great and will do their best to help you narrow down your choices. I’ve tried the chip magnet and it’s pretty good if you have a particular craving for mint chip.
Aside from that, the inside is roomy and even if you can’t find an empty table, they do have room where you can stand and enjoy your treat. It even provides a great view of the many creations that people ask for. Give it a try. As for the business, keep it up and thank you for the tasty treat.

I’ve wanted to try this place for a long time. Since it was super hot today, it was perfect. The line was practically out the door, which meant it had to be good! I was indecisive on what to get since there were so many different options of ice and ice cream flavors to choose from. I decided to go with one of the specials– the Cookie Monster, blue vanilla ice with cookies and cream ice cream. It seemed to be a customer favorite because I noticed that many people ordered it. I got the small since it was my first time there and it was still pretty big. It was really good! The place doesn’t fit that many people but even though it was crowded, the employees did a great job of making sure to tend to all the customers even after they received their orders. I will definitely be coming back here soon!

I’ve been coming to Shave it since I lived around the block from it 4 years ago. I would stop in during my walk around the neighborhood. Now I live in Pico Rivera and although there is another shave ice place closer to me, in doesn’t compare to Shave it! Quantity of flavors can’t beat quality of ingredients, service or community involvement.
My favorite combo is the piña colada. I’ve also had the Nintendo Crash, Some Like it Hot and root beer float. Shave ice without ice cream is also great. Rainbow (cherry, pineapple, lime, bubblegum and grape), bubblegum or plain cherry are all flavors I’ve tried and love. In the winter, I order a hottie, which is hot chocolate with a scoop of delicious ice cream, whipped cream and toppings. I’ve never been disappointed by a combo or a flavor in the last 4 years.
Although I understand how people new to Shave it might be overwhelmed by the combos on the mirror versus the menu, it’s not a problem! The staff is so friendly! They’re willing to answer any questions and even let you try different flavors.
What I love most about Shave it is that they also give back to the community. I have had them come to fundraisers for my school club. They even came to my local ACS Relay for Life and donated 15% from the event to my team’s donation goal.
Everyone should definitely give them a try! If you get overwhelmed, ask for guidance and if you love the place, make sure to join the rewards program! The next time I go in I get a free treat!

At first I didn’t understand the concept. There were a lot of pre-​made flavors to choose from on the mirrors. I just wanted ice cream! Specifically coffee ice cream with some kind of cookie or nut topping. But then again, this wasn’t Coldstone’s so I had to revise.
The girl at the register explained to me that this place serves a combination of shaved ice and ice cream. I wasn’t in the mood for shaved ice and didn’t think I would even like it with my ice cream. I chose the TWIX flavor combination with caramel and chocolate fudge, and the girl was kind enough the allow me to replace the shaved ice with macadamia nut ice cream. It was delicious!
My bf got the Tropical Swell with guava and mango flavored shaved ice and ice cream. The ice itself was so soft, light and melts right in your mouth. The flavors were bright also. To my surprise, ice and ice cream really work well together! I was so wrong. Maybe next time I will be less hesitant to try new things. In this case, I was delightfully pleased.

Simple concept: shaved ice and ice cream. Hawaiian style flaky shavings with light not to syrupy flavor. Ice cream serving is small, at bottom of cup. They out s lid guard on top with hole for eating. Beach seating with bar stools and bar counter tables. No public bathroom. Your hands will be sticky. We will be back when in the neighborhood.

I ordered Dave’s big stick! Which is under the «Combo ice» section of the menu. It really did taste like a big stick Popsicle and it was even better because they add rainbow sherbet on the bottom of the cup as well as the top. When you get to the bottom it is like finding an awesome surprise! They have a small and large size, a «small» is more than plenty for one person. For being my first time here I was a bit overwhelmed by the amount of flavors and combinations. I am glad I listened to my gut because Dave’s was very tasty. They have a few tables, but it was a bit crowded when I went so we decided to go outside. Sadly they don’t have any outdoor tables.

I live by the beach in San Diego County now, and even though I grew up in the Inland Empire. the heat gets me quicker than before now! I needed a cold dessert.
I saw this place was nearby and had reviews that made me want to check it out. I know and love Hawaiian shaved ice! Walking in, there were many people eating their ice at their tables. The menu was kinda confusing for a newbie. There was a printed menu but also hand writing on the mirror in both sides. since I didn’t really know how to go about it, I figured it was easiest to order one of their combo (sorbet with shaved ice).
My boyfriend just ordered the pink lemonade ice and he imagined it to be slightly tart or sour, but it was so sweet we had to ask and make sure it was not bubblegum flavor. He wasn’t happy with it because he wanted a tart flavor. I ordered the «some like it hot» which is mango sorbet with watermelon ice, chamoy, and tajin. The mango sorbet was delicious– I could even see the mango fiber strands in the sorbet. Real stuff. The ice however didn’t taste like watermelon at all. it tasted more like cherry? The tajin was really good on the ice though.
All in all it was a disappointing dessert trip. They had a lot to choose from and creative combos, but the flavors weren’t there in the syrups. I should’ve just stuck with th ice cream or sorbet, and I’ll save my hawaiian ice cravings for my island vacations.

Another awesome new spot, and again it is not close!
We were eating at a place that we recently became fans of, when we discussed finding something for dessert. My husband had Shave It bookmarked and it was about three miles away, at least according to Unilocal.
We made our way down and walked inside. They make shaved ice, or shaved ice and ice cream combos. They have all their ice flavors listed on one side, and their ice cream flavors listed below. To the right they had their own creations with their creation names listed.
After seeing a picture on Unilocal of Hot Chocolate, I had my heart set on that. I did not see this listed so I ordered Dutch Chocolate ice cream with mocha ice. We saw at the register that they had additional toppings for a little extra charge. I don’t remember what all they had besides five or six options, because I went straight to finding chocolate. I ordered the chocolate syrup for a quarter extra. It turns out that it is more like fudge. Even better.
My husband went with their version of Frosted Flakes, which ended up being more like a banana cream pie. I am not sure where the name applies, but he absolutely loved it. I loved mine also! His mom ordered vanilla ice cream, with mint chip ice cream and chocolate syrup on top. That ended up being their Chip Magnet creation.
Items range at about $ 5 for a small, which is more than plenty. I don’t know how much the large is but it looked like quite bit in size. A small was more than enough, especially after dinner.
After we paid we noticed their creations written out on their mirrors across both sides of the place. It is hard to read with the colors they used but they are there for ideas. They said they also have a binder full of many flavor creations. Looking at the mirror, I already know that I want to come back for Twix, Banana Split, and Berry Bomb. A lot of their flavors have some funny names.
We all loved it and I am ready to return for many visits. Unfortunately it is not close to us so I won’t be able to come by as much as much as I would like. One disappointment was that the lady helping was telling everyone in line as they paid about their rewards. For every $ 45 or 45 points (not sure which), you get $ 5 off. We would have been a third of the way there already. The guy who helped us did not mention this and we figured since we already paid it may not have worked out. There was a line forming also.
Besides that loss, I am a fan and will be back.

Why oh why couldn’t this place be closer to home? After our beloved favorite dessert place recently decided to close up shop we have been in search of a new favorite and although I have no idea where my wife stands on this, Shave It may be close to the top of my personal list.
We came here after pulling up desserts through Unilocal and seeing that it was relatively close to the place we were eating at. I have had it bookmarked since its opening so there was no time like the present to check it out. Firestone is a complete mess of a street so the traffic getting here is slow moving and frankly sucks. This is not an ideal intersection for anyone but the center it lies in is actually quite nice.
As we walked in the door we noticed the menu board to the left and right of the registers on the wall. Being so focused on this we did not even realize that the mirrors lining the side walls also had custom flavor creations written on them from other customers. The employee also informed us they have a binder of 100’s of others on the side as well which I will have to check out. I decided to go with the Frosted Flakes combination which consisted of banana ice and flavoring over vanilla bean ice cream. The texture of the treat was great and the taste was even better. Everyone in our party got a small size and this was perfect to me as the combinations are quite sweet and I don’t know that I could knock out a large in one sitting and getting this home in one piece would be a miracle.
Despite that fact that I loved the creation I got, I saw several others on the mirrors that I also want to try so multiple return visits are definitely in the cards. The pricing is good for what you get and they apparently have a frequent buyer points program of some kind that we unfortunately found out about AFTER we had almost finished eating. It seems the lady was suggestive selling the free program on people while the guy who rang us out made zero mention of it, thus screwing us out of all of the points we otherwise would have already accumulated which irked me.
For taste, price and options alone; I would give this place an easy 5 but due to the fact that we were not informed about the points and now have to make an additional visit to accumulate the points we would have already been given causes me to give them a 4. I find it inexcusable when certain people are excluded from something and you sit there watching everyone else get told about it whether by mistake or not. We will be back soon to try more of these tasty concoctions. If you are in the area and are a fan of the shave ice places popping up around the Southland then you need to give this place a shot and see what you think, with 100’s of combinations to be made there is something for everyone.

Shaved ice! Oh my goodness, yes we’re addicted.
They have sugar free syrups. Watermelon is my absolute favorite. The owner is so sweet. I don’t see her very often anymore. Lots of young workers who are very nice & patient. Love the rewards system. But really really disappointed when they had to change our cards. Lost ALL of my previous points we had added up. Which we had a lot… and was looking fwd to our free shaveit private party. But I definitely recommend this place. Can’t go wrong here. One thing I would request from the owner is getting coconut ice cream as an option. I have a dairy allergy and can’t eat regular ice cream. Would be a great non dairy option.

Yeah I know this is a shave ice place but they have some YUMMYLICIOUS ice cream HELLO??? Why aren’t more people lining up for ice cream here. Because it’s a shave ice place, not ice cream but you CAN buy just ice cream! I was in the neighborhood and this is totally not my hood so I Unilocaled desserts or ice cream and this place came up! First time I came, I tried the shave ice and ME being from HAWAII and all, I just HAD to try this place out!!! I cannot find anyplace that resembles Hawaiian shave ice. Many places do not have ice cream to add. So sad! It ain’t real Hawaiian shave ice without ice cream!!! And being the DQ that I am, I NEED MY ICE CREAM!!! So Hallelujah! It was only 3 minutes away from where I was at. I think I was checking out some Hawaiian festival not too far away.
So I came here and had no idea what to order. They have combos on the menu for you to make it easier for you if you cannot decide. Most people go with the options they have on the menu. Since my favorite flavors are banana and black cherry, I went with that and also added guava. The guava was less sweet so if you want something not too sweet, guava might be for you. I LOVE MY SWEETS. So black cherry hit the spot for me WOW what a sugar high I had that day lol. And the ice cream with the shave ice made it THAT much more yummier! Now I know some people are ragging on this place for not having adzuki beans. Traditional Hawaiian shave ice does have adzuki beans. But it still taste good without it. So I came on a weekend and there was a line. Normally there’s always a line for this place. It was so good I came back again and again but instead for ice cream lol.
Now I know how yummy ice cream taste in Hawaii so I had to taste it here to see if it is REALLY Hawaiian ice cream and OMG it taste so good!!! My favorite wad Dutch Chocolate and Salted Caramel Chip. My buddy Les S. said his favorite is Cinnamon so far. I’ll have to try it. Only $ 1.25 for a small scoop. I get two scoops and my tummy is satisfied!!! If this place was near me, I’d be so fat, you can roll me down the street, Not JOKING.

If you want to try a shave ice combo, the popular one is the Cookie Monster which is blue vanilla shave ice with cookies n cream ice cream. Or just make your own combo. I might wanna try that one next!
Ok OK it’s shave ice not shaved ice people. I always say «shaved» and Joe P. gets on my case about it lol. Well my ice was shaved so it makes sense to ME to say shaved ice but since it’s Hawaii, gotta speak the Pidgin language I guess LOL.

I’m not a fan of Hawaiian shaved ice. I can’t stand the taste of artificially flavored syrup and ice crystals that have the color of clown’s hair. Makes me angry just looking at one. That’s why I had no interest in trying this place until I saw Kenzie K’s tip about the ice cream here. $ 1.25 for a scoop of ice cream? That’s a killer deal. You can’t even get Thrifty’s ice cream for that price, and the quality and taste is a lot better here. I love the cinnamon ice cream. Tastes like horchata. It even has a slightly grainy texture, I’m guessing it’s from cinnamon. The salted caramel chip was also good but not as good as the cinnamon. They have about 14 different flavors of ice cream. I think they were mainly meant to go with shaved ice creations but I’m happy just getting the ice cream by itself.
They have tons of flavor combinations for shaved ice and I think new customers have a hard time choosing. It is quite overwhelming. Some of the flavors are written on the mirror so it’s difficult to read. I always see a line of people here and sometimes gets held up because people can’t decide what they want. Employees seem friendly and patient despite indecisive customers.
I normally only go for handcrafted and/​or organic ice creams but I can’t pass up ice cream for $ 1.25 per scoop, even if I have to stare at things that looks like clown hair in the process.

I originally tried ‘Shave It’ three years ago with an open mind and wasn’t expecting much. I’ve had shave ice in North Shore on Oahu and on the Big Island in both Kailua-​Kona and in Hilo. My sister posts photos of her Shave It creations on a regular basis on FaceBook. So I asked her to take me here one day HA! We originally started going to the one in Valencia in 2011 before it relocated.
I ALWAYS get the combo, ice cream with shave ice. The super creamy ice cream and the soft smooth shaved ice is a marriage made in heaven and not to mention the flavoring… not too syrupy and not too overpoweringly sweet.

The two employees working behind the counter were really nice. When we went in, we were the only customers there — probably because it was around dinner time.
I saw a photo of a strawberry concoction, so I asked for that. It’s called Strawberry Field Forever — strawberry, cheesecake, vanilla ice cream. It was delicious, and they made it pretty quickly, but then again… I’d hope so, since we were the only ones there. Haha.
They place their special kinds of concoctions on the mirror in erasable marker. There are a ton of kinds, and you can be a daredevil and make your own, as well.
My boyfriend loved the floor, as he is a child at heart sometimes. It’s like gel or something, and it moves when you step on it (see picture).
Overall, I enjoyed it, and I would definitely visit again.
