Great find. Situated outside of Hanover by about a 10 minute drive, this place is not to be missed. They know how to make flour. This café is situated at the central lobby of a ski loft-​like space. There is plenty of seating throughout, with some people chatting and others getting some work done on their laptops. Overall it’s pretty quiet.
When you enter, you can catch a glimpse of them actually making pastries behind some glass windows with some inspirational pastry quotes. I believe there are two lines, one to order pastries and one to order from the rest of the menu. I came for breakfast on a Sunday and there was no line.
1. Hot apple cider: it tastes like they made it themselves. It’s absolutely delicious and is foamy on top. I figure that’s what it’s supposed to look like when they make this stuff.
2. Coffee: So. Good. It’s coffee, but you know it’s good drip coffee the second you smell it. You get one refill for free.
3. Bacon and egg breakfast sandwich: the egg was good as was the bacon, but what made this sandwich outstanding are the buns. They’re known for flour so this was expected.
4. Raspberry chocolate croissant: how can this be bad? It wasn’t. Case closed.
I’ve been very impressed with the food around Hanover. This is definitely one of the stops you should make if you’re visiting. If you don’t have access to a car, the bakery has some smaller areas in Hanover proper, like in the Dartmouth library.

The café bakery menu is always so tempting. The descriptions of Food are often mouth-​watering, but the actual food fails to live up to the promise.
I’ve eaten at the café many times during various trips to buy baking ingredients. The pulled pork, chicken salad and pizza have all been disappointing.
The best thing to buy at the café is rolls. My family really likes the Walter Sands rolls.
Skip the food. Buy some rolls and baking supplies and get lunch elsewhere.

Stopped by here because we’ve been wanting to come, the place is huge! Baking goods and appliances of course are overpriced for what they really are, this is definitely a little touristy and the café is crowded always. The main menu seemed to Carry a ton of stuff. I really came for dessert and tea, the cookies on Display did not look appetizing so I decided not to let the sugar lover in me come out. The staff didn’t appear friendly or helpful but just worried about getting everyone in line to the register, Not a huge variety of teas but Republic of Tea is my favorite I tried the hibiscus tea (pineapple lychee) sounds way better than it tastes and I love hibiscus. My husbands cappuccino was a tad bit small, meaning they had only a ¼ of the cup filled, mostly foam, a WHOLE lot of foam. This is a one stop and we’re done thing for us. Those who love to bake would enjoy coming in and taking a class, there’s a lot of things they could do here but it will be pricey.

This place is sweet (literally and figuratively)! :) If you love pastries, cakes, bread, or baking, then King Arthur Flour is definitely the place to be! I always enjoy having their croissants (plain, chocolate, or the ham and cheese) for breakfast. I’ve tried the roast beef sandwich and the chicken curry salad and they were a little disappointing. The sandwich itself (the bread and beef) was cold, not toasted. There wasn’t any spread with the sandwich, making it very dry and bland. The salad barely had any chicken on it and it was overloaded with carrots. I find the bread selection or bakery to be more alluring. The hot cider is also a must, especially on a cold day. Their shop has a wide variety of baking supplies and cook books. Check this place out if you’re ever in this area!

I started baking recently, first pizza dough then thought why not bread. This place must be the mecca of baking. Very clean and apparently use to traffic. The sandwiches were very good but the retail baking shop was the best. Picked up lots of flour that I never realized I required, some sourdough starter and seeds for bread toping. Lots of fun. Not too far from WRJ and certainly worth a diversion for your next lunch.

What a great destination! We signed up last minute for a Mediterranean bread baking class and were so pleased at what a great time we had. Would be a great weekend activity for a couple, friends, or parent-​child pair.
The classrooms are huge, clean, and lessons very organized and perfectly paced from the novice up to a more experienced baker. Amber and Sharon were such great instructors! We also took home all of our baked goods. I’d suggest bringing some huge freezer ziplock bags if you’re not going home right away, as they will provide you with paper bags to transport them in. I cannot stress enough how much fun we had, and we’re not even huge bakers. With your class comes a free tea/​coffee coupon that you can use during the break about 2⁄3 the way through the class and a 10% off coupon to use at the store.
The store has lots of fun somewhat hard to find baker specialty items. You can also pick yourself up a sourdough starter! Yes everything is a little pricey but definitely worth the experience.

We learned that this place had some great reviews on Unilocal so we decided to give it a try in a Saturday morning. There were lots of people waiting in line but staffs were helpful, friendly and fast. Foods were nice — we ordered a chicken club sandwich and some sort of cake with coffee. it was hard to find a seat. We were happy with our experience.

Truly heaven for bakers. We drove 4 hours out of our way to get here, but I was like a kid in a candy store once we arrived! We started with a light bite at the café. Where else can you order a chocolate croissant AND a baguette with fresh butter, with no judgement? The croissant was perfect and the baguette was crunchy, chewy, and flavorful. My husband took a seat in a comfy chair, with free wifi, and away I went to the shop! The shop was clean and very nicely arranged. It was really nice to be able to touch and see the items in the catalog. I spent far more than I should have, but nothing was unreasonably priced.

Had a wonderful time at the pizza making class! It was fun to be able to work in such a beautiful facility. The staff were very thorough and easy to learn from. The overall value was excellent. We made two kinds of dough, watched a demo of a third type and came away with 3 recipes, plus 2 pizzas per person.

It is hard for me to give a bad review to KAF — because it is my FAVORITE LUNCH SPOT in the Hanover area — especially because I have celiac disease and their gluten free options are AMAZING. That being said, I am a frequent guest and the service is so poor that I have to brace myself before entering the restaurant. The wait is always very long, the staff is stressed and irritable, and my order is wrong almost every time. The worst part is having to tell them that my order is wrong, because they are incredibly rude about it, and act like I’m being a huge inconvenience. 2 people have rolled their eyes at me and 1 put their hand in my face telling me to wait, when I hadn’t even said a word. I have also called beforehand to make sure they had something in-​stock, and the experience was just as bad.
Sorry, KAF! After a 5th bad experience, I had to say something.

San Francisco, CA
KAF is a popular place for kids at Dartmouth to get their caffeine fix — they take DASH and DBA, the equivalent of Dartmouth money, so it’s an unsurprisingly popular place to go.
It’s a small café tucked inside the library offering up some delicious pastries and pretty good drinks. I recommend the Iced Johnny which is half cider half iced tea or the London Fog (tea with steamed milk). Their chocolate croissant is a must have, as are some of their salads and sandwiches, which make for quick and easy meals for students.
The biggest problem with this place is the lines — lines are really, really rough. It dies down in the evenings and some times in between classes. But if you go during the day, expect a wait.
tldr; pretty good college café, a smaller selection of goods than their Vermont location, but delicious nonetheless.

Bread is delicious, as expected, and the facility is decorated very nicely. Everything is well presented. We ordered the grilled cheese, which was yummy and filling, as well as the pot roast stew, which was under-​seasoned and quite bitter (still had an alcohol-​like taste; seemed like the alcohol hadn’t been completely cooked out). The stew came with a savory biscuit, which seemed like an after-​thought and didn’t go with the stew. It would have been better if paired with a baguette or ciabatta to soak up the sauce.
I recommend sticking with the bread, pastries and store items. If ordering from the café, order the sandwiches/​anything that is heavily «breaded». Make sure you have time on your hands if visiting the café around lunch time; it took 25 mins for our food to come out and there was limited seating.

Not to be missed. Great service wonderful food. Well stocked store and bakery. Huge salad wonderful tomato basil soup and apple Brie on sourdough bagel.
Very recommended. We were there on Saturday and it was family day, but there was no no crowd issue. There were four of us and we were all delighted even with all the kiddos running around. We still enjoyed our meal and the service and food were worth every penny.
We would go there again instantly if around the area.

I tend to believe people in VT are just aggressive. On weekends if it’s busy, it’s the last place I want to go. People hoard tables and chairs, and cut in line. The worst part of it is that it’s typically people in their mid 60’s to early 70’s!!!
The store itself is great. The food is good; soups, salads and sandwiches.
I’ve been here at least a dozen times. I just can’t get over how aggressive people are here.

«Try it once, trust it always.» King Arthur Flour has been my dad’s favorite for baking for quite some time, so I was pleased to find that the kitchen store and café were both worth a visit while at Dartmouth for a conference. Visitors to Cabot Cheese’s Quechee Store or local breweries (Harpoon, Long Trail, etc) would do well to add this gem to the list. Bread, cheese and beer are a reliable pairing, right?
Overpriced kitchen stores normally just make me want to order something off Amazon, but I managed to pick up a few fun small gifts — Vietnamese cinnamon, pizza dough flavor and some magnets. You have plenty of other options of things to buy, all of which are on the website, but it is nice to browse while waiting for your buzzer/​beeper to let you know that your lunch is ready.
On this visit I got a slice of cheese pizza, as they were unfortunately out of the veggie, and a curried chicken salad sandwich. I am glad I ordered a cup of the lemonade too, as it was the perfect thirst quencher on a hot day! While I grabbed my order to go, there was plenty of seating both inside and out on the front patio. The meal was delicious and certainly made me wish I lived nearby. If I worked for or went to Dartmouth, this certainly would be a staple, although I hear they have a little café on campus.
Certainly a step above Panera, the café here does offer a similar experience with ordering at a main counter and picking up at another. Decidedly a breakfast and lunch-​focused spot, I was pleased to see some appetizing vegetarian options.
