Ronnie’s Hot Bagel & Cafe

Everything has changed. The quantity of the food shrunk as well. My usual order is a ham egg and cheese, and when I opened it there was one slice of ham, I kid you not. It was basically 75% bagel. The cream cheeses taste a little different too. All the workers also changed, the new staff is not as friendly.

First time here this morning and quite frankly no compelling reason to come back. The place looks a bit dated, the chairs uncomfortable and they do not offer wi-​fi which in today’s world makes no sense. As the sign in the Wizard of Oz said
” if I where you I would turn around”

Literally just left the shop, today. We used to frequent Ronnie’s in 2005 – 2008, and it was always bustling– with a great atmosphere. Today, the experience was so very different.
The place looked drab. The staff was slow and all looked as though they didn’t want to be bothered. I said good morning to the lady preparing our food and not even a smile was cracked. Not to mention, a line that extended to the door, people walking out, phone ringing and ringing– nobody picking it up. It felt really uncomfortable. The bagel I ordered tasted like a roll. Not flavorful, very light and dry. Our wait to order was 25 minutes. There were no fresh pastries set out, like we’d remembered. The tables were all dirty and sticky. What happened? This place used to be the hot spot on a Sunday morning! No stars. I hope they improve– it has such potential. Marty’s in Orangeburg is the only place to get a perfect bagel in the area.

If I had a dollar for each time they messed up my order, I would be a dollar richer after each visit. I’ll give them two stars because they make a good bagel, but does that really matter if the workers can’t get a single order right?

Best bagels in the area hands down. Bagels are huge, soft and fluffy and always fresh! We also love their sandwiches and you have to get a fresh squeezed orange juice! Who has that anymore? Amazing!

There is new management at Ronnies. The bagels are back to their old size and quality. They are big, fluffy and have lots of toppings. The bacon egg and cheese sandwiches are also good once again. Prices are still on the high side, but as long as they maintain quality I am ok with it.

I can’t even give it one star. Been going there 27 years. RIP RONNIE, but they have ruined your store. Sent my hubby on Saturday for bagels, THEY DIDN’T EVEN HAVE HOLES!!! They were absolutely lousy. I took the worst one in and said politely,– «this is more like a roll» his reply, what do you want a bagel with a hole? RRALLY HAIRY DUDE? I asked did they change recipes, methods. He could give a crap. I left saying this will make some birds really happy, and ill be going to John’s in WoodCliff Lake.

Ronnie’s bagels is a great place, I go here all the time! I don’t agree with some of the reviews below, I’ve never had any issues with the staff. They are always so friendly.
The bagels are awesome.

No complaints about the staff or service or food itself, but there was nothing spectacular about their bagels to justify the price. I got a bagel with lox (which admittedly, is on the pricier side) and a small coffee and it cost more than $ 10. Not sure what the exact price distribution was, but it just seems a little steep no matter how I parse it.
What it comes down to: Just your average NJ/​NY bagel for not your average price.

Used to be a nice bagel I did come here fore years but new it’s not that bad but it’s definitely different staff has issues need improvements

New management and new lower prices? Still too high. Got coffee, bagel with salmon cream cheese, and egg/​bacon on bagel almost came to $ 15. Never asked me if I wanted a receipt. And when I asked for it, said can’t print it. Difficult to understand the brutus-​like cashier. Food was good. Ambiance is good and clean. Choice of bagels is good. Credit card only above $ 10 purchase. Need to be more like Paneras.

Staff are friendly. I saw some review about attitude here. That didn’t happen to me. First time there, loved them.
Very reasonable price too. For about the same price as the places America run on, you get higher quality, larger portion and more delicious food here.

The bagels are great and everything we’ve had from here has been better than the last. I’d recommend this place for any family breakfast as the bagels really take the cake over any other shops in the area. I’d compare this place to Marty’s in Orangeburg or Bagel Train in Suffern, NY

Great bagels and the best tuna salad

My problem is not so much with the food but the general management and attitude of the people that own this place. I work in the area as a teacher for children (teenagers) with autism. Part of the learning for the children is called community based instruction. This is where we practice acquired skills in the community such as general behavior, money skills and social interaction. My class has been coming to this establishment for the past 3 weeks 3 times a week to work on all of these skills. Not once have they stopped to realize charging these children a discounted price. We have literally been there 3 times a week for 3 weeks and my students are still charged 6 dollars for a bagel and a drink. Not only are these prices astronomical, but give these kids a break. They are coming to your store not for your food but to practice life skills and you cannot throw them a bone. Look I am not looking for a handout but most of our kids come from low economic areas do its very difficult to get money from parents. Instead of having the students lose out on this great experience often us teacher provide the money. Give the kids a break once in a while! Am I wrong in thinking this? We are going to have to re-​evaluate our trips for next year !!
All of the above aside they entire staff minus one woman is rude. Every time I got in there for personal items I feel rushed and nervous. They stare you down while you try and make a quick decision as to not anger any staff members. Kindness goes a long way!

Ronnies makes great bagels. Unfortunately, their prices have become very high of late and service has gone down. As recently as a year ago you could order a bagel or sandwich and not wait more than 2 – 3 minutes. Wait times at my last 3 visits have been in excess of 10 minutes for quick egg sandwich. Additionally I believe they must have changed the brand of coffee they use because the coffee quality is poor. It used to be phenomenal.
If Ronnie’s plans on remaining competitive with other local bagel shops and deli’s they need to put an emphasis on customer service. I hope they do cause their bagels are delish!

Ouch said my wallet to the bagel! Almost 4 dollars for a very lightly buttered not toasted bagel. Are you serious. The sad thing is the bagels are very good but not for the insane prices. High rent perhaps? Can’t imagine that. Run down strip mall with pot holes. Wish I could have been nicer.

Beware when ordering more than 1 sandwich. You won’t get what you ordered. Beware when you even just get one bacon egg and cheese bc it costs freaking 4.50! Sorry, buts that’s in-​freaking-​sane.

The bagels are great. The store is clean. The service is quick.
So why the Ehhh!
The biggest sign in the window says:
Grab N’ Go Special.
Coffee and Bagel w/​Plain Cream Cheese $ 2.99
Except its $ 4.34. When I questioned it, they said the special is only till noon. When I asked how I would know that, he indicated that there’s a sign inside the store that he couldn’t find, but promised to put up immediately.
Really? Until then, you should honor the special.

Great bagels, friendly (but hyper) staff. I’ve never had a bad bagel from this place. The line is always out the door. Bagels are made fresh and they have all the spreads and breakfast sandwich ingredients.
The only thing that’s keeping this place from 5 stars is what happens when trying to order anything more than a regular bagel with cream cheese.
I ordered 4 breakfast sandwiches (all bagels) and an espresso. Only 1 staff member really knows how to work the espresso machine and some of the sandwiches came through with the wrong order, no worries im not picky and I’m quick to give them another chance. I’ve been back 3 – 4 times ordering the same 4 breakfast sandwiches, no dice, always something wrong with at least 1 sandwich (i dont like ketchup on my bagel, ever). Mind you they are always busy, so its understandable, but they need a new method to run the «intricate» orders, otherwise this place is great.
