Plaza Pastry Shop

This review is for a chocolate cake that Boyfriend ordered for my birthday. It was fabulous, with fresh fruit in it and a really nice buttercream frosting. Everybody was really pleasantly surprised by how good the cake was, since we generally do ice cream cakes for birthdays, and was asking where it came from.
He brought it over on a Saturday morning, and it was enjoyed by everybody at my birthday party. My roommates and I were still finishing it on Wednesday and the cake was still really moist.

I used to frequent this bakery a few years back, everything was top notch. The past year, maybe two… I’ve received so many stale baked items. They taste old. The custard cups, cupcakes, cannoli’s, specifically. I was so disappointed because I really used to love this place. But you can tell when the baked goods have been refrigerated and put back on the shelves. They’ve also gotten pricier.

I have been here multiple times and have not been disappointed. The prices are a little much, but that was my only concern.
I had a peanut butter and jelly donut ($ 1.50?). They are known to sell out quickly of these unique donuts. They are extremely delightful and have a good mix of peanut butter and jelly. There was plenty of those two fillings incorporated. The donut was on the smaller side however.
Will I go back? No doubt.

The key to this bakery is the bread! Whenever I travel to my home town in Long Island to visit family, they anticipate the 5 or so loafs of french bread I will be carrying from Plaza. Everyone loves the taste of their bread because it is always fresh, has real flavor and makes everything taste better. Its like when your favorite pizza place makes the best crust and so no one else compares.
There are a group of locals who enjoy gathering at the shop, but I would not call them creepy, just that they found a great environment to meet and socialize with their the old school buddies.
Plaza also makes donuts and coffee cake that rival, and in many cases surpass the best bakeries in these parts! Try them for yourself, but get there early or selection will be slim to none. Now, I must admit on the rare occasion I have had an issue with the freshness of their cakes so I am careful with that and focus mostly on the fresh baked bread and donuts. Hey, every bakery does some things better than others, so you stick with what’s tried and true and you will never go wrong with this authentic bakery.

Apple pie w green mold. Yum. I called and they seem like it happens often. Told me to come in and they will give me a new pie.
Besides the pie, wr also got 6 brownies whixh also tasted old. And 6 pastries, which I would have been better off getting at shop rite.
I try to support local business but if this is the crap im spending triple the money on then ita just not worth it to me.

As a strong believer in supporting local businesses, I’ve tried (Lord! How I’ve tried!!) to continue my patronage of the Plaza Pastry Shop throughout the past 10 years now. The quality of the pastries and cakes is very hit or miss. The girls who work there are really nice but the woman who owns/​runs the place is an absolute misery. I can’t remember the last time I purchased anything from her without being made to feel like she’s doing me a great big favor.
Let’s also not forget the creepy old men who sit inside the place from dawn to dusk, leering at everyone
I do think their almond cheese ring is delicious (when it’s fresh) but that alone is no longer enough to keep me as a customer. There are plenty of good bakeries in the area. From now on I’m going to give my hard earned money to someone who deserves and appreciates it

This is a quintessential pastry shop. I’ve hosted Christmas benefit parties over the past decade, and at every one of them I have something from Plaza Pastry. It’s always a hit. Grab something here and you’ll be satisfied.

I’ve been going here since I was a kid. First accompanying my mom to pick up fresh bread for dinner or cakes for special occasions. Now whenever I’m home I stop in for some of their delicious pastries or just a sandwich. Really a hidden gem in the area. Don’t miss it!
