History
Established in 1932.
In 1932, master-luthier John D’Angelico opened his first guitar shop on Kenmare Street, in Manhattan’s Little Italy. For more than thirty years, D’Angelico was renowned for making some of the finest archtop guitars in the world, keeping his production minimal and of the utmost quality. When D’Angelico passed away in 1964, his successor and former apprentice, Jimmy D’Aquisto, took over the shop. After moving on to build his own guitars under the D’Aquisto name, the D’Angelico brand eventually fell out of production. Thirty years later, the brand was resurrected by its current owners and has since taken off running. Reissuing several of the original archtops that made D’Angelico guitars famous in the thirties, the company now offers a stunning line of both old classics and striking new models. D’Angelico guitars are now available all over the world, promising the same master craftsmanship, now at an affordable price.
